I believe that live.com currently doesnt read a line from the sitemaps because there are not in the website root

msu2k 07-20-2008 04:53 PM

I never had any problems with version 2.1 but am having issues with 2.2. I've tried reinstalling several times. If I run the sitemap generator it will sometimes run fine once. After that though, most times when I start it will run for 1-2 seconds and output just this and stop:

Code:

[SECTION START] tags [5,595.8Kb mem used] [3,081s (+213s)]
[create sitemap file] filename: sitemap_107.xml.gz, number of urls: 36 [5,611.6Kb mem used] [3,081s (+0s)]
[create sitemap in text format] part #108 [5,611.6Kb mem used] [3,081s (+0s)]
[create sitemap index] filename: sitemap_index.xml.gz, number of sitemaps: 107 [5,659.4Kb mem used] [3,081s (+0s)]

There are no reports generated after this and no submissions to search engines that I can tell. So what is happening here? Is it just generating the .gz's that had changes in the since the last time it was run? Shouldn't that at least show up in the reports?

mertada 07-20-2008 07:34 PM

Thanks.

msu2k,

I noticed the same thing - I had a number of forums set at "show threads from last month". Does this mean that Google hasn't been crawling through some of the more ancient threads I have at my site? I've changed all forums to "show all threads" btw.

Another question - more important: I don't have a site map for the root domain that my forum is located - which includes a few thousand pages. Could this plugin work for those as well, or does it only work with vBulletin/vBseo? If so, what would I need to do to include the static pages on the root URL? Would I simply change the "Sitemap Files URL" to the root domain in the admin section? Or do I need to generate a separate sitemap using other software for that?

Last question - pretty lame question but one nonetheless. What URL do I submit to yahoo? Would it be the forum's root url, or the URL that includes the gz file that is reported to Google?
http://www.mydomain.com/myforum/sitemap_index.xml.gz

Thanks!

Yes, exactly.

This mod creates sitemap for vBulletin URLs only. You will have to create a separate sitemap for other pages on your site.

http://www.mydomain.com/myforum/sitemap_index.xml.gz
Correct.

Pf?hler,

check exact db error message in your email notification.

Ohiosweetheart 07-23-2008 01:13 AM

For some reason, I'm no longer receiving email notifications, even tho the sitemap is being generated according to the report and the ping is successful. I'm having this problem with both of my sites.

Any idea?

I run the generate sitemap and everything seems to be fine, but when I see if my sitemap is there I get:
Sitemap file not found

Do I have to have VBSEO in order to use this modification?

Maniac - no, you don't have to have vbseo in order to use this mod. I have it on several forums w/out vbseo.

Then why does it say the sitemap is not found?

EDIT: Hmm someone didn't tell us the data directory had to be chmod to 777. Fixed the problem.

thankyou

It doesn't always have to be. Mine is 644 and the installation worked perfectly following the directions in the docs folder exactly. It just depends on your server configuration or web host how permissions on directories that are going to be writable by the web server must be set.

msu2k 07-25-2008 02:01 PM

Just thought I'd share...my problem was resolved with the help of Oleg at vBSEO. I ended up just filing a problem ticket with them on their site since I own a license to vBSEO. It was resolved very quickly.

Problem:
Had no problems with previous vBSEO Sitemap Generator plugins but this version hadn't completed successfully for me even once since I had installed it. Never got an email that it was finished. Never saw it show up in the reports list. When I genned it manually it would look like it was completing successfully but never quite finished. Any further manual gens would run for a couple of seconds then stop.

Solution:
Set the "Generate Yahoo-Compatible Text Sitemap" setting to NO. It generated the sitemap just fine afterwards and I got my first completed sitemap, email, and report since I installed this version of the mod. Apparently Yahoo no longer even needs that type of sitemap anymore anyway so you're not even losing anything by disabling it.

iojam 07-25-2008 06:48 PM

Ohiosweetheart,

vBSEO Sitemap Generator uses built-in PHP mail() function, possibly your host doesn't allow that.

Dave-Initial,

check that your host supports mod_rewrite.

Froggy32701,

try to disable text sitemap, remove all files from data folder and regenerate sitemap.

TheInsaneManiac,

do you have sitemap files (sitemap_index(1,2,..).xml.gz) created in data/ folder?

DeanoUK 07-26-2008 01:32 PM

Great stuff, and my first plug-in used. Thanks :)

Jonaid 07-27-2008 02:27 PM

Having a problem where the sitemap is only including Member Profile URLs. I've checked all my settings and made sure everything is set to to on but its still not working. Has anyone come across this problem before?

wreckless 07-27-2008 05:12 PM

Is this a Free plugin or are you suppose to buy vBSEO to actually make this work?

Jonaid,

probably your forums are not visible to guests (they are automatically excluded).

Froggy32701,

do you get an error when opening yourforumsroot/vbseo_sitemap/ URL in browser? Check your server error log to find out details on the error.

jonicoletta 07-28-2008 04:25 AM

Hi guys,
How can I include all the pages of DownloadsII (Main page, categories, files) in the reports of vBseo Sitemap Generator? I think that there is a modification or a plugin, but my english is not so good and I could not understand in the pages that I saw and read, where webmasters asks the same question.

Thank you very much.

isn't it working with ZOINTS system?
thanks again , great job

iojam 07-29-2008 06:20 AM

jonicoletta,

you can use this add-on: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...ds#post1573697

ehsanix,

vBSEO Sitemap Generator supports only original vBulletin links and vBSEOed URLs.

hunter22375 07-29-2008 11:02 PM

My forums are by subscription only and are not viewable by guests. Does that mean I cannot use this plugin? Thanks.

Alfa1 07-31-2008 03:36 PM

Is there an add-on for LDM?

Somehow the site map does not contain my tag pages, while i do have this turned on in adminCP -> vb options -> vbseo site map. Is there something I need to do to fix this?

MSN and Ask are not downloading the sitemap. Google and Yahoo are. The search engine pings shows the pings to MSN and Ask where successful. I have just pinged them trough my browser to see if that works.

PWO81 07-31-2008 05:40 PM

My web host doesnt allow htaccess files, is there anything I can do. Are there any other mods like this that dont jave a htaccess file to upload?

Having a closed forum means bots can't see it. Having a sitemap, or expecting search traffic, is simply not going to happen.

You CAN use it the plugin, but it won't do anything for you...

iojam 08-01-2008 04:54 AM

PWO81,

you will have to manually move sitemap files from vbseo_sitemap/data/ folder to your forums folder.

yahoooh 08-01-2008 08:53 AM

any fix for same priority error in sitemap ?

stevectaylor 08-01-2008 02:53 PM

I get a error404 only inconnection with the Tags rewrites. Any ideas?
