Why was this question not answered???? Hmmmm - probably because the "upgrade" seemed to have left out all of those with vBSEO installed?

Anyway - I was looking forward to this - but apparently cannot use it - It was much simpler and more robust to have the options available right in the threads, rather than the AdminCP - Weird really, because IMO an upgrade or update to such a hack is supposed to be better or more feature rich. Sorry - you didn't seem to accomplish that with this upgrade.

Oh well...

Thanx for sharing anyway...

Anyway to have mods or super mods able to use this? I don't want to give them access to ACP, just their mod cp.

aisais 07-13-2008 11:23 AM

I had to uninstall due to Db error. Maybe because my forum is bilingual.
I got Error Number : 1064 from Mysql when the cron jobs started updating thread views.

I am sorry. FALSE ALARM :)
That error came from a different MOD.

TFEX 07-13-2008 08:15 PM

Thanks for the mod, will come in very handy!

OK, since I excluded showthread.php, I guess this is the reason why it now does not register when members look at the thread in question. So they keep getting bugged about it and can not use the forum.

Any ideas?

Abe1, could you be so kind to respond to this?

BucWiLd 07-22-2008 09:27 PM

iPodHacking.com 07-25-2008 03:46 PM

I uploaded all the files then imported the product. The only settings i see are in the vbulletin options.

anderow 07-26-2008 07:09 PM

How do I set the permissions for what groups this hack applies to please?

Merriweather 07-31-2008 05:29 PM

My members report 404 errors when they try to read the thread I've specified. They have to log in and out and click around a while before it will actually let them read the thread. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm on 3.7.2

Its in the options for this hack in your admincp. There is a usergroup window.

I got two queries on this....

I am currently using the previous version of this hack on my forum running 3.7. I installed this when my forum was on 3.6.8 and after the upgrade of the forum software, this hack is working fine except for one incident, which is mentioned below.
  1. Can I upgrade to this new version of this hack and keep the current settings as it is so that the members who had already read the thread will not be prompted again after the upgrade.
  2. I am using vbAdvanced CMPS, and whenever my users use the URL www.forumname.com to go to my site, they get the Administrator message to read the thread. But the link will be http://www.forumname.com/showthread.php?t=xxx. Whereas my actual forum URL is http://www.forumname.com/forums/showthread.php?t-=xxx. But if my users use the URL www.forumhome.com/forums to access the page from their browsers, all works fine.
Can anybody please give me ideas how to sort out the above two problems.

Thanks

x2 any manual fixes for this?

deathdlr 08-06-2008 02:52 AM

How can I go about editing the message that pops up when there is a thread I want read?

I want to make something funny like, "dood... your mom wants you to read this before you do anything else" or something silly like that...

siddal 08-06-2008 06:10 AM

Open "product-abe1_forceusersreadthread.xml" and around line 193 is the editable text.
Hope this helps :)

Sven 08-07-2008 09:10 AM

Would be great if this one would also support Announcements...

I think it's even more important than threads....

Merjawy 08-08-2008 01:44 PM

great idea.. I will be installing it soon.. always wanted to force users to read my notes (like please update your account info) :)

thanks

Turbo&Auto 08-08-2008 02:11 PM

There needs to be better instructions man! It took quite awhile to figure out how to use this mod!!

Thread ID - is just that, you make a thread you want to be force read, then enter that threads id # into the thread ID box

Force read order - is the display order I believe

Expire - You can set it to expire on a certain date by checking yes for expire, or you can leave it up indefinately by checking no.

Date - Set the date for expiring if thats what you want

Usergroups - Select which groups have to read the thread (ctrl + click on each name to add multiples)

Location - If you select site wide it will redirect on login. Otherwise you can set the message to a specific forum or sub-forum

Enjoy :)

myown 08-14-2008 06:50 AM

Ok maybe I was not clear enough. I have the same problem that users described here. I entered a new threadid and saved the entry. It says that the entry was saved sucessfully but its not showing up.

and hack is not working ... users can look around freely..

how to make it work?

Total666 08-14-2008 11:34 PM

Make a new post whatever you want ... then after you click submit new thread --- click on thread tools - edit thread - in the address bar is the # you need .. for example
www.whatever/forums/postings.php?t=23736&pollid=

the 23736 is the number you use in the force thread ..

click add new thread ..

add the # you located earlier ..

select if you want the force read to expire or not , if yes select a date ..

Highlight any users that you want force them to read the thread ..

Click save ...

It will work .. It took me awhile to figure this out too ...

tikichick 08-15-2008 07:24 AM

Not showing up in AdminCP on version 3.7.2 Patch Level 1. Anyone else have this problem?

Merjawy 08-15-2008 12:27 PM

Great idea really.. should've been part of vB if you ask me :)

Thanks.. installed and works on 3.7.2 PL1

question though..

lets say I lost track and forced a thread (sitewide) on everyone including guests.. but the thread is in private forum !!! like Mos forum where noone but staff could see.....

what now? whats going to happen to users/guests?

are they going to get stuck since they didn't read the thread and can NOT read it? :)

Thanks again

mlthmp 08-17-2008 08:38 AM

I am also have the same problems as above. When I enter in the info for the thread I'd like people to have ot read, and click save.. when the page loads its not showing as having any setup.

Suggestions?

blaze718 08-17-2008 06:21 PM

why does it ask for a password? how do i turn that off?

RK1gaming 08-18-2008 02:22 PM

Yea I am having the same issues on my forum with CMPS installed .. I also added in the showthreadphp file on my cmps and still no result

RK1gaming 08-18-2008 02:59 PM

figured it out ...

go to your Admin CP .. VBoptions - force users to read thread -- Disable hack via file name - add in my cmps_index.php ( or whatever you renamed it to if you did )

Refreshed , tested on the admins and it worked fine so far no issues

siliconfinance 08-19-2008 04:13 PM

Does this add a query to every page or just those pages related to the forums where a user is forced to read a thread before posting?

Zurual 08-24-2008 08:54 AM

There's something iffy with the Display Order and Force Read order. For instance: If I create a thread I want visitors to read and Force Read it, marking it as #2 on the force read order, it inherits the usergroups from the Force read #1 thread..even though they are two seperate entities in the Force Read thread admin area. Basically, in a nutshell, Add two threads via the adminCP to Force Read, they inherit the usergroup listing of those threads created before it with force read.

Something isn't right. Using Vbulletin 3.7.0. Screenshots below confirm I've only chosen the Warhammer Rank to be forced to read this thread. But if you look at the other screenshot, you'll see it also is forcing visitors and Users waiting on Email Conf. to view it as well because the other, completely separate entry, forces those two ranks to read another thread. I'm a bit of a noob so if it's an easy fix, that's fine. But I've wracked my brain on why it would be doing this. My only conclusion is it's something to do with the Display Order (oddly).

queengoc 08-27-2008 05:04 PM

I can't find the last two pictures so I'm not able to set what thread I wanted read. I feel like a dummy but oh well, LOL. I've gone into admincp/options/force users to read thread and I see the 2nd pic but I don't see the others. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

harlita 08-28-2008 05:28 PM

Extremely useful for several reasons.

I use this feature to ensure that all staff members see changes/updates/important threads in the staff lounge.

I also use this feature to ensure that new members have at least seen a thread that points them to the rules/faq/staff list on the forum.

And since we have sections that have special rules within them, we have this feature set up so members are forced to read those special rules the first time they enter the section.

This hack makes rule and update communications much easier, saving sticky threads for the important things like historical lists and references, instead of inundating members with tons and tons of sticky threads everywhere they go.

Stellar hack.

and i think if u want to force a certain user to read a major topic u can set his additional usergroup to 1 which u made for this purpose

I'm finding this too.

I go to add a new thread, leave the display order at its default (previous + 10), set the thread ID, usergroups and forum coverage, and when I create, it has inherited the groups of those above it.

I wonder what the issue is.

It says 3.7.x but it gives 500 error here =( disabling now

andy1645 09-09-2008 12:19 AM

I am trying to put this hack into place and do not have (or can't find, anyway) admincp -> plugin system -> manage products so can't "import" the necessary product file. Is this because I'm still on V 3.6.5 and this hack only works on 3.6.6 and newer? Or am I just not looking in the right place for this option?

massizero 09-09-2008 04:12 PM

i'm running 3.7.3 version
this hack doesn't work anymore. I can't insert new forced threads, it doesn't let me save them.
