I'm a newbie to VBulletin so I have a rather inane question. I've added the product via the XML file and clicked on

VBoptions -> Rewrite eBay LInks

I've entered in my ID. So far, so good.

Now...how do I set the search string and where it should display in the forum? I do not see any options for that.

Thanks in advance,

BarbT

It automatically searches for all eBay links in threads and makes them an affiliate link.

Have you tried? I have not had the time to play with 3.7 yet, but as mentioned in my other modification threads, once vBulletin hits 3.7 Gold, my modifications will get there eventually. I'm not doing anything before 3.7 Gold, as there are probably lots of quirks before it does get there.

socalrico 02-01-2008 03:47 PM

So I'm a bit confussed how this function works. Lets say some one posts a pic with a link or a click here link to a URL from ebay, is it suppose to add your PID to the URL?

I'm just curious what I'm suppose to see to know it is working?

Dismounted 02-03-2008 06:15 AM

1. Yes, it redirects the URLs through the eBay Affiliate program.
2. The links change, and you'll see your ID in it.

Big Kahuna 02-06-2008 07:16 PM

OK I've read the entire thread, signed up for Commission Junction, and then eBay on CJ. I know my AID and PID and I've installed this hack.

I've put in my PID in the Vb Options, but the link contains a AID that doesn't match mine. Where did that AID come from? Does it earn commission for someone else -- and do I earn commission with my PID but someone else's AID?

Dismounted 02-08-2008 08:11 AM

The AID is eBay's AID as seen through their link generator.

Big Kahuna 02-08-2008 12:56 PM

So I should not change that to my aid in the template?

hankster 02-09-2008 12:28 AM

Bug.... the following URL turns into an afilliate link

http://www.sellingslotcarsonmrconeyvsebay.com

The AID that is used in my modification is provided by eBay, but if you think that you should be using another one, feel free to do so.

installed on 3.7b4 and working perfectly

styleforum 02-14-2008 04:41 PM

Hey, I think this plugin is the reason I got this error:

Quote:

Warning: parse_url(http:///www.blah.com) [function.parse-url]: Unable to parse URL in /includes/init.php(319) : eval()'d code on line 21
Note the triple-slash. When anyone has a signature with an url with a triple slash, this warning appears at the top of the page twice. I'm not sure what line 21 is referring to.

Dismounted 02-15-2008 07:27 AM

I already know about this error, and it has been mentioned several times.

ETDC 02-15-2008 01:41 PM

Any sign yet of this working with multiple (UK and US) affiliate schemes? :)

patrice@patrice 02-20-2008 12:38 PM

We have always had a lot of people posting ebay links to our forums, so this plugin was really a nice find. Well...I got this email this morning from CJ and I'm not sure what it means. Has anyone else gotten this?

Big Kahuna 02-20-2008 01:01 PM

well that's not good

I guess I can expect the same email

ETDC 02-20-2008 04:44 PM

It simply means... email them and explain the situation. No need to panic.

patrice@patrice 02-20-2008 06:56 PM

I just replied to them and asked them what's going on and what transactions are not being made in good faith.

I'll keep you posted.

honestdave 02-22-2008 05:15 PM

hmmm. interesting.

As most affiliate links seem to follow a similar pattern....

eg. http://{affilate_url}/{unique_id}?DURL={Original URL}

Great idea, this is something I am looking for. Very often on my forums links are posted to say amazon, play.com, hmv, etc and it could be a nice little earner to help pay for the server etc.

patrice, did you ever receive any updates from CJ on this? I am very curious (and concerned) to hear what happened!

Got this from eBay...

How will it affect this mod?....

We are excited to announce eBay?s new global affiliate platform: the eBay Partner Network.

The new platform will go live on April 1st, 2008 PST, at which point eBay will no longer be running its affiliate program through Commission Junction. Beginning April 1st, affiliates should register with eBay Partner Network and migrate their links from CJ to the new platform.

While CJ and ValueClick have been valuable partners to eBay throughout the years, we?ve decided to give our affiliate community a customized experience for eBay affiliates.

All the great tools and benefits of working with the eBay program will remain the same ? access to the Editor Kit and affiliate API, the flexible destination tool, the great payout structure. In addition, the eBay partner network will provide several new features:
? Easy global registration to multiple countries simultaneously
? New, targeted banners and rich media creatives
? New landing page optimization and geo-targeting capabilities
? More detailed reporting capabilities for eBay?s programs

The eBay Partner Network and Commission Junction will run in parallel for one month through this process, so please plan to complete your migration by May 1st, 2008.

You can receive an additional 5% bonus for all traffic tracked through eBay Partner Network in April 2008 (bonus applicable to traffic sent to Half.com and US, UK, Australia, Canada, Italy, India and Spain eBay sites). The sooner you migrate, the more you?ll earn! Just:
? Register with eBay Partner Network on April 1, 2008
? Confirm your registration, and obtain your new identifiers
? Update your links with your new identifiers.
? Reminder: Please plan to complete migration by May 1, 2008.

You will receive more information and step by step directions for the transition on April 1st. A special help desk to answer your questions about migration will also be available starting April 1st. You can find more details, including a list of programs that will be affected, at http://affiliates.ebay.com.

Thanks for being a valued partner. We?re excited for a successful transition, and the opportunity to grow your business through even more innovations, information and communication moving forward!

Sincerely,

eBay?s Affiliates Managers

Legend! Thanks. :)

hankster 03-19-2008 04:46 AM

Might try emailing eBay to let them know you develop code for eBay affiliates. They may let you in on the format. I know some others that write programs for eBay affiliates that have already gotten the new format so they could modify their software.

Dismounted 03-19-2008 05:45 AM

Email sent to eBay.

we get a 5% bonus for the month of April to for all EPN sales. the sooner the better.

I don't think there is much to the change.

If I wanted to post this ebay item.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150225023322

It would show up like this:

where CampID: 12345678 (instead of using a PID)

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&campid=12345678&toolid=10001&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay .com%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D1502 25023322

Modification Updated!

2/04/2007 - Version 1.2
- Updated URL Format
- Updated ReadMe

The URL format is as specified in the developer documents. Please note that you MUST re-enter your Campaign ID in the options page!

GoTTi 04-02-2008 05:51 AM

Dismounted, let me get this clear....

i signed up for the new affiliate program on ebay.com....

i go into Tools and Link Generator, and i made a new campaign ID (because it says i need to)...and i made it for ebay US.

i generated the code to goto the home page...

i got this as result:

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/XXXXXX...10001&customid=

where the campid=xxxxxxxx is my campaign number right? i put that number in the vbulletin options settings correct? thanks.

also, are you going to port this also for half.com ?

GoTTi 04-02-2008 05:54 AM

i am getting a error:

when i goto the settings under options, i see:

Error:
You did not enter a valid value for this setting.

I am inputting the campid number in the field box, and when i click Save i get a popup box saying there are errors on the page, do i wish to continue. i click yes, and the screen reloads and the error is still there. i tested a post using www.ebay.com as a link and the campid is not showing up.

There _may_ be a problem with the error detection code I have put in place. Are you entering the 9-digit ID without any spaces, etc.?

BadgerDog 04-02-2008 12:42 PM

Updated eBay and got a new Campaign ID thingy ... (Note: It's 10 digits, not 9, that they supply)

Updated to v1.2 of mod...

Entered new Campaign ID in field and get the same error as well....

Quote:

Affiliate ID?

Enter your 9-digit eBay Partner Network Campaign ID. 0123456789

Error:
You did not enter a valid value for this setting.
I think the problem is the number of digits. It's not 9 for me, it's 10 I have to use?

Regards,
Badger

Hey mate, the date of the new release is off by a year. :p

I'll be installing this update shortly.

ferreo 04-02-2008 02:12 PM

Badger is right, the digit count on the campaign ID is 10, not 9.
