Thats the default vB behaviour.

Its that bit that I dont know where to place.. I just keep getting parse errors if I try and do it...
I want it so that the page is viewable to people that are logged in, but not to people that arent..

Thats not what I'm trying to do... I have a different design for the site, and just want to use the login system, so users dont have to register on two different sites..
This hack does that, but I just dont know how to use the php code in my last post..

Your getting parse errors probably because your HTML code is not escaped correctly.

It does require some basic PHP skills to do this.
If you have not used PHP/HTML togeather before you really should do a couple of online tutorials on it.
Its a little confusing at first, but not hard to pick up the basics (which is all you need for this)

Also, when designing it in Dreamweaver, everything disappears from the design view.. Is that because it is restricted to a usergroup and Dreamweaver cannot access it?

Is there a way to get users to redirect to a different page when they login?
E.g if they logged in on your home page, it would redirect them to the members area home page?

Not as it stands at the moment.
You would need to include vBs useronline system.

When i use conditionals to display content to users who are logged in it works fine but the login box still remains at the top, is this suppose to happen?

hey bill it says you updated the avatar code in this mod but i cannot see it in the code. i would really like the avatar display in the welcome box

I think this is a Great hack Bill, I'll first start with the simple version. There are some things I coulnd't get it work. I am sure I entered the URL in part 2 and doc roots in part 1 correctly. I don't get any php errors..: What I do get is:

When I'm not logged in and I want to in /thishack/, the standard vBulletin login page shows instead of the login fields provided in part 2. And when I want to login, it takes me to login.php which is in /forum/ but not in /thishack/.
This hack should work in other folders on the same domain, right?
When I am logged in (through the forum) and I hit the Logout link in /thishack/, it does take me to the vBulletin message: "All cookies cleared!" but when I go to the forum, I am still logged in.Seems to working now after I closed and reopened my FF broswer

On my server:

-----/forum/
-----/thishack/

I am using vB 3.6.7

I already did the "Subdomains and cross site logins" (nr 4 of troubleshooting)

Anyone else has this issue or solutions for me?

Hey Bill,

Is it possible to show a warning on the page where the script is loaded instead of the redirection to the forums (ie. on bad password or incorrect username)?

ok we have a version that will allow someone of a certain primary group to see the page like this:

I'm having problems with this.

I have my forums at domain1.com/forums/ and a site at site1.com

I've followed all the instructions and everything and its not working correctly. If I clear my cookies, I login and it redirects me to site1.com and shows me as logged in however in the address bar there is ?s= then the long session ID string. If I navigate to another page, this goes and I'm logged out.

Any idea whats going on here? I'm pulling my hair out over this! :(

The connection to the vB files is working, the redirect is working, but it is not setting the cookies correctly. I've tried the cookie domain as blank, .site1.com, .domain1.com and its just not working. It keeps me logged in on the forums, just not the site.

I've got root access so can modify any settings if needed (however I don't think its server-side related).

Does anyone know if this hack will work with iframes? Specifically, it I have the login box and login detection code within an iframe (say login.php), and this iframe is part of index.html, if I enter my username/password in the login box, it seems to recognize that I've logged in, but it won't redirect me back to the main page, which is index.html. It seems to redirect back to my iframe page, login.php, which is not the behavior I want. Does anyone know how to make it redirect to the main page, index.html, which includes my login.php in an iframe? This is my first time using this hack.

ETA: never mind, don't think this is the issue:
chdir('webcity');
require_once('webcity/global.php');

should be something in the format of:

chdir('/home/webc/public_html/webcity');
require_once('/home/webc/public_html/webcity/global.php');

I had this problem before. After moving the code to the very top of any codeblock should solve it.
