If you don't like the idea that is totaly understandable it is your mod and a GREAT mod at that no credit taken away. But for a business or commercial stand point without the stats it is useless. I have 25 websites and will use this mod on about 10 of them but rest are to commercial and need to record stats to show the clients. I client log in to check stats is a huge plus as well which would be a great add on.

Oh, I wasn't being rude! Nothing wrong with the idea, but I made it with Adsense in mind which has third party stats so it was never part of my intention. Lots of other advertisement providers do the same so it's not useless in that sense, although I appreciate it's not very helpful if you want to do your own. I guess it's possibility for the future, but for now it would require too much of a rewrite.

I can't reproduce this, it works fine for me. Try checking the validity of your forum code (ads included) using this:

Can there be a auto rotation added? Or does this exist already and I don't know how to execute that option? Thanks! Great mod BTW!

RedTyger 11-29-2006 09:26 AM

Every location has a separate random code rotation ability.

agua 11-30-2006 12:52 AM

Great Hack... exactly what I was looking for - Thanks

But my ads only display when users are registered... is there a way to display them all the time? (Or did I miss something?)

RedTyger 11-30-2006 07:40 AM

It's displayed according to your Usergroup settings in Global Settings. Guests are Usergroup 1.

ruhrpottforum 11-30-2006 07:49 AM

Is it possible to display different kinds of Ads to users (special groups) and/or Guests? (likes Guests get bigger Ads, a Group of users did not get Ads and all others get standard size ads).

thumbsucker 11-30-2006 07:54 AM

The threadbit advertisement is GREAT except for the fact that it messes up alignment (I'm using Adsense).

Thus, when the threads are listed with advertisement, it makes everything too wide and the user has to scroll to the right to see the entire screen.

Any way to fix this?

I'm afraid not. :(

farooqaaa 11-30-2006 09:15 AM

w000t! its the best one :)!! i love it...

Thanks alot :p (already installed)

thumbsucker 11-30-2006 09:18 AM

Some bugs/problems I've noticed:

Adsense ads in thread causes the screen to be too wide, making users scroll right to see the whole page.

Also noticed that with first and last post ads activated, the first and last poster's user profile link (their user name) no longer works. It will not click nor give a drop-down menu.

No problem @ your PM. :)

There's nothing I can do about the Adsense size. The forum will expand to fit whatever sized banners you use. If you want a smaller forum, use smaller banners.

Someone else mentioned the drop-down menu problem earlier and I said it didn't exist, but I checked again out of suspicion and it's only happening in Internet Explorer. So this is either yet another bug to add to Internet Explorer's impressive collection, or there's something in the advertisement code causing the problem. I can think of nothing in the Ad Management code that would cause it, the Ad code is included after the drop-down menu code.

Does the drop-down issue still occur if you use non-Adsense banner code? Just an image or something.

Edit: Click install or you'll miss updates.

may be a feature for an upcoming version? :) I really would love to see that

agua 12-01-2006 03:32 AM

Thanks RedTyger... I'm new to vb - so I'm just going to find out about usergroups :)

zmanz 12-01-2006 04:54 AM

this looks pretty cool. is it possible to only display this type of ad? that one seems the least intrusive, and i would like to limit the ads to only that one...

RedTyger 12-01-2006 09:33 AM

Yes. That's the postbit setting/location. You can turn any ad location on/off independantly and the postbit location has three further on/off settings (Private Messages, Announcements, Posts).

Confirmed this and found a fix that works for me, hope it works for you too. I'll update the instructions for the next update as everyone should do this.

The drop-down menu is an Internet Explorer bug, version 6 is all I've tested. To fix it, instead of pasting $postbit_advertisement at the bottom of the template:

FIND:
<!-- post $post[postid] popup menu -->

ABOVE, ADD
$postbit_advertisement

This just moves the ad code so that the drop-down code comes after it instead of before. Why this would make a difference I can't imagine, but there you go.

bashy 12-01-2006 02:47 PM

Hi

I dont have in my header template, Can you advise anywhere else to put this please?
Code:

$header_advertisement

RedTyger 12-01-2006 02:50 PM

Just put it in and see if it's where you want it? I can't take wild guesses for custom templates. Worst thing that can happen is you have to move it or delete it. :)

The default location places it on the right opposite the vBulletin logo.

bashy 12-01-2006 03:20 PM

Ok m8 will do cheers :)

lovelypk 12-03-2006 09:00 PM

Does this support vBadvanced??

RedTyger 12-04-2006 07:51 AM

If you search this thread, someone did have it working with vBA. It's a very small change to make.

Edit: My bad, unless you want it in the navbar it works with vBA out of the box.

kkc 12-04-2006 09:06 PM

nice mod,

subzonline 12-06-2006 07:57 PM

What it said in the update notification.

Or if you missed that somehow, changelog is in the first post not far above the screenshots.

kkc 12-07-2006 01:33 PM

is their a branding free possibility?

farooqaaa 12-07-2006 03:53 PM

Thanks alot :). Version 2.1 is cool :)

Glad you like it! Absolutely nobody requested ads in the archives to my complete surprise so I just put them in because I should have thought of it earlier. Seemed like an essential to me.

GFX Brands 12-07-2006 09:59 PM

So...my modification is working fine, but it means that your other ad modification stops working, is that correct?

GFX Brands 12-08-2006 10:37 AM

yes that is correct

RedTyger 12-08-2006 10:41 AM

Hm. I can't really support interaction with other mods, it's a wild goose chase I'm afraid. But a wild guess: Try opening my modification in an editor and changing all instances of

Code:

executionorder="5"
to

Code:

executionorder="4"
then reupload with overwrite set to yes.

fusiongoddess 12-14-2006 01:40 AM

Does this have any sort of tracking to provide advertisers with how effective their ad has been? Any back end for them to log in and see these results or to have a report sent?

rolandogomez 12-14-2006 04:48 AM

Ditto to fusiongoddess, I too would like this feature as not all advertising is Google. Though Google is great! Thanks, rg.

Afraid not, sorry. If it ever does acquire stats and a back-end it'll be for the admin, not other custom user accounts.

tschai 12-14-2006 03:19 PM

This add-on is almost, if not fully, PERFECT!

Excellent work and thanks for sharing it

...now I've got to find me some paying sponsors ;)

djr 12-15-2006 12:10 AM

- updated to 2.1! :) Thanks again.

SaN-DeeP 12-15-2006 12:16 AM

great work thumbs up :)

Installed..

palle04 12-18-2006 07:24 AM

this mod is just awesome. thank you so much

i have only one problem, the banners are only shown for users that are registered and logged in.
guests are not seeing any banners...
is there a way to solve that?

triphp 12-19-2006 05:08 AM

I would like to ask if this can be used for Adsense Revenue Sharing just what Digital Point Forums did on their forum. Basically, the Adsense ads will display in the header, after first post, and in the last post. When the thread starter has inputted an Adsense ID in the User CP, he has a 50% chance that his Adsense ads will show on the header, after first post and last post.

Is this possible?

Add usergroup 1 to the list of usergroups you want to display the banners to.

Sounds fairly simple to do (undoubtedly I'll find it won't be) so yeah I'll give it a shot. Any other obvious options or extra stuff to do with Adsense sharing I should know about?
