Since nobody else is answering questions, I will.

It would be significantly more difficult to list who the PM is sent to on a message index such as what was mentioned a few posts ago, because that has to be retrieved and parsed differently than the sender does.

You can read any private message that currently exists -- that is, you cannot read deleted private messages.

No, reading private messages using this plugin does not mark the message as being read.

In order to install this plugin, you must upload the appropriate PHP script *and* import the XML file. If you have done both, a link should appear under the "Users" submenu, while using the Administrator's Control Panel.

Pushed the XML file up manually to the appropriate directory and this works like a charm. Thank you.

There was readpms in vboptions in previous versions, to be able to add which admins may read pms. This version doesn't have that, Can this be modded to do that?

Can't you just switch the ones you want to S-Admin?

GeekDrew 01-20-2007 01:19 AM

blind-eddie: Read back a few pages. I already posted instructions on how to do that, earlier in this thread.

blind-eddie 01-20-2007 01:28 AM

I suppose I could do that....1 more question, While I was looking through my admincp, I went into users/Private Message Statistics.
When I click on[List Users with 59 Messages] you see
http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/1354/pmssy4.th.png

what would I need to do to add readpms to this location?

Will this work on 3.6.4?

And how would you catch a member poaching other members to go to another forum unless you just started putting in one user at a time till you were done with the hundreds of users you have?

slobrob 01-28-2007 12:47 AM

Usage:

On your admin control panel, under the "User" menu theres a link to the Read PMs mod. Only Super Administrators can use it.
Be sure to read full instructions

slobrob 01-28-2007 05:46 PM

I know, I am a super admin..

Your user ID is listed as superadmin in the config file, and it still says that you do not have permission to use it?

Snake 01-29-2007 08:21 AM

How can I make this so only users with the specific user IDs can read PMs? I have many super administrators and I don't really want them to notice about this hack completely.

I personally don't think that it's a good idea to have many super administrators, and I also don't think that it's a good idea to be hiding this modification from any of your administrators and moderators.

That said, read back a few pages, I already posted instructions for how to do what you're requesting.

Snake 01-29-2007 09:11 AM

Well, it's kinda hard for me to run the whole site alone since it's already big as hell so yeah.

Anyway, thanks for the instructions. Seems to work just fine but what did you mean by unserialization issue exactly?

Having assistance running the site doesn't mean you add super administrators. ;) I know of several very large forums that have only one super admin, and quite a few moderators.

Anyway, there was/is a serialization issue, where if you read a PM, the "to" field shows up as a serialized string -- the destination username(s) is in it, but there are also a bunch of other numbers and etc. That's what my instructions did. If you aren't having that problem, then there isn't any need to follow that part of my instructions.

taydu 01-31-2007 09:44 PM

great hack, is there away to download PM and save it as text file like in the usercp??

Spinball 02-03-2007 10:10 PM

Is there a quick way to make all admin users have access to this (without editing the config.php)?

dcpaq2xx 02-04-2007 02:42 AM

When it states "Super Moderators" does that mean only super moderators or can Administrators view them as well?

Also can the members tell if I am reading their private messages?

Thanks

Doug

Not super moderators but
Only Super Administrators can use it.
And no members dont know unless you tell them

dcpaq2xx 02-04-2007 02:49 AM

Sorry about that, I thought it said moderators. My fault. :)

If they cant tell then thats cool.

On a side note, anyone know of a hack that does email too like this?

Thanks

Doug

Considering its going to there email
I highly doubt it :confused:
Unless every email sent out from the site is saved somewhere as a draft

I wonder if theres a way to tell Vbulletin to send a carbon copy of every email that gets sent through Vbulletin to a specific email address. That would probably work ok.

Doug

A normal admin can't control other admins powers and such and a few more tweaks to it
Its just like a add-on of some permissions/powers
Not like a big jump from smod to admin

You could maybe request that in the request forum and see what people say
Or make sure it gets done by making a $ Service Request

dcpaq2xx 02-04-2007 03:03 AM

Ok, Sounds good. I will end this off topic discussion here.

Back to the Read PM's hack we go. :)

Doug

haris_led 02-04-2007 06:01 AM

dcpaq2, if you want to save the outgoing emails, you can go to:
AdminCP>vBulletin Options>Error Handling & Logging>Log Emails to a File
and enter the path to the file you want :D

blind-eddie 02-04-2007 09:07 AM

There is a hack here that if a member sends an email via your site, you can set it up to get copy of it in your email.

Doug

Superadmin is the user defined in your config.php as the person able to admin the whole site including other admin.
If you want (as I do) all admin users to be able to read PMs, edit read_pms.php and replace
PHP Code:

if (!in_array($vbulletin->userinfo['userid'], preg_split('#\s*,\s*#s'$vbulletin->config['SpecialUsers']['superadministrators'], -1PREG_SPLIT_NO_EMPTY)) ) {

rpm_print_stop_back("You don't have permission to access this page.");

with
PHP Code:

if(!$vbulletin->userinfo['usergroupid'] == $vbulletin->options['adminid'])
{

rpm_print_stop_back("You don't have permission to access this page.");

dcpaq2xx 02-04-2007 01:22 PM

Thank you everyone for answering my questions. I appreciate it greatly.
