ecDownloads ver 4.0.1 vbAdvanced Add-On will work.

scoles15 07-20-2006 04:55 PM

You really need to say something about vb 3.6. Time is now very short. RC 2 already. Those of us using ecdownloads now, will be forced to wait for ecdownloads or look for a replacement.:angry:

DementedMindz 07-20-2006 06:11 PM

there really is no replacement so we just have to wait..

webmaster_fvc 07-20-2006 06:13 PM

make sure you have set the permissions on your downloads folder to be 777.

Hi Westpointer,

below a german (beta :) ) translation for ecDownloadsIIver5 product-file.
The translation was done by our member kobayashi. Enjoy :cool:

No I haven't tested it, I am waiting for you to say something about whether it will work and when. I guess I was hoping you would make a specific announcement or start a thread in in the 3.6 Mod forum.

There are always ways to replace it. Will they be as good? No! But will they suffice, sure

I probably won't do that until 3.6 is the official supported version. In the meantime, I'll do my best to make sure these files work on both versions. For those sites that have 3.6 installed (even in a development environment), give it a try for me. I think everything works but the more eyes on it the better.:)

Wait no longer. I am 99.9% sure that it is fully compatible with 3.6 RC2
;)

I have added it to the site and it works flawlessly from what I can tell.I have done every option, uploading, downloading, approve, unapproved, pin, etc.
I have tryed to cover all angles of this hack.I am about to add the ecdownloads buddy to make sure it works good as well.Everything seems to work perfect!! I'm running 3.6 RC2

I hope this helps all who want to go ahead and add it to your vB3.6
Thanks WP

GrCh_Jeff 07-21-2006 10:23 PM

I have added the ecdownloadsbuddy to 3.6 RC2 and it worked flawlessly from what I can tell. Again, I am 99.9% sure that ecII and the buddy add-on will work for you if your running 3.6 RC2
I don't have vBadvanced CMPS on my forum yet but I assume that the CMPS add-on will work as well since the other two worked.

HappyPike 07-23-2006 01:06 AM

This is a very nice addon. Thanks to westpointer for keeping it updated!

After beta 1 of ecDownloadsII 5.0, there's now beta 2 :)
There are no new features, only A LOT of bugfixes and cleanups. We are sure you will see that some small bugs you noticed in the past will be fixed. Translating ecDownloadsII will be easier, because almost all hardcoded text moved to phrases (except in the AdminCP).

Changelog:
  • 100% XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS 2.1 W3C compliance
  • Removed borders of all images
  • Fixed wrong aligned text editor when adding a file with IE
  • Moved a lot of hardcoded text to phrases and fixed some missing phrases
  • Fixed two wrong phrases for navbits (Add & Edit file)
  • Fixed a bug with manage files causing an invalid sql
  • Fixed a bug with manage files causing you couldn't select the Pin option in the dropdown menu
  • Fixed a bug with the category page: category images of sub categories weren't showing up ($dl->picwidth doesn't exist)
  • Removed examples for file name and author when adding a file
  • Cached an uncached template causing an extra query on the 'Assign New Uploader' page
  • Removed the unnecessary 'add_to_dlinks' hook location
  • Cleaned up a lot of code to the vBulletin coding standards
  • ...

gothicuser 07-23-2006 10:06 AM

Astonishing work. Installed and working perfectly :D :D

Good job! ;)

Only a template needs to be fixed :

replace the contents of downloads_memberfiles_bit
HTML Code:

<tr>
 <td class="alt1">
  <a href="downloads.php?do=file&amp;fileid={$file['id']}">{$file['name']}</a>
 </td>
 <td class="alt1">
  $smalldesc
 </td>
 <td class="alt1">
  $date
 </td>
 <td class="alt1">
  $downloads
 </td>
</td>

with this

HTML Code:

<tr>
 <td class="alt1">
  <a href="downloads.php?do=file&amp;fileid={$file['id']}">{$file['name']}</a>
 </td>
 <td class="alt1">
  $smalldesc
 </td>
 <td class="alt1">
  $downloads
 </td>
  <td class="alt1">
  $date
 </td>
</tr>

RS_Jelle 07-23-2006 12:17 PM

Thanks, I fixed it, it will be included in the next release ;)

HappyPike 07-25-2006 02:08 AM

Thanks for your work!

For the downloads_cat_subbit template, in the subcategory listing table cell, it uses nowrap="nowrap". I think you should remove that, since when there are lots of categories this causes them to be on a single line and results in a horizontal scrollbar.

original:
HTML Code:

<td class="$bgclass" valign="middle" align="left" nowrap="nowrap">
<span  class="smallfont">{$sub['desc']}$subcats</span>
</td>

suggested change:

HTML Code:

<td class="$bgclass" valign="middle" align="left">
<div  class="smallfont">{$sub['desc']}$subcats</div>
</td>

Another suggestion, for the next release, can you make the download link a button? This way it's more obvious. Also, how about allowing a file to have multiple download mirror links?

Back on the old ecDownloads thread, someone had posted a new template that had the download button in the bottom right corner and it was a big button. If you posted that, could you please repost it!

Thanks!

Currently I make the download link size 16 and replaced the decending icon before it with this generic download icon I found on Google images: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2006/07/11.gif. It's very easy to notice the link now. :) Another template change I made is make the category names bold. Looks better this way and more consistent with my forum looks.

Good to hear that!

Here are some more feature suggestions and questions:
  • Report bad file or broken link
  • Ability to add new fields in the control panel would be nice. For example, I want to have a "Forum thread" field to link to exisiting forum discussion for the file. Also a field for version number and a field for file requirements.
  • On the page that lists the files in the categroy, it would be nice to also show the Author, perhaps make it it's own column so people can sort by author too. If not its own column, something like Author: {} File Size: {} below the short description would do too.

    Is there a way to add the author info below the short description currently?
  • Any plan to improve the search page so people can search within a certain categories?
  • How can I change the subcategories list so it's not italic? I looked in the templates and the php file but couldn't find it.
  • It would be nice if when people update a file with a new version, the old version gets deleted. Right now I think the old files remain undeleted.
I have played with the script for a day or two and am very impressed! :) It's very easy to use and has most features I need. The assign uploader feature is nice.

Keep up the great work! :up:

Have a look at /includes/class_downloads.php and search for <i> ;)

Version 5.0 is almost completed and we want to release it as fast as possible. So it will be mainly a bugfix/cleanup release. The next version will be focused on some new features :)

HappyPike 07-25-2006 07:22 PM

Cool thanks. :) Look forward to it!

Another quick questions:

- how can I re-arrange the navigation links?

Looks like there is a bug with the rating system. I selected A but the system recorded A-.

stangger5 07-26-2006 11:52 AM

I keep getting this when tring to upload a file...

The upload failed! Upload error.

Its a zip file too...

How big was the file? Can you post a screen shot of the error?

stangger5 07-26-2006 12:39 PM

The file was 16.5 mb`s....

Does it have a limit ??

php has a limit. To over-ride it, add this to your .htaccess file in the same folder that downloads.php is in.

Code:

php_value upload_max_filesize 25M
php_value post_max_size 25M

change the 25M to whatever you'd like it to be.

HappyPike 07-27-2006 01:52 AM

westpointer/Jelle, for the next version, can you make it so it show the number of votes casted?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, I fixed it.

To fix it, run this query (if you use a prefix, you need to add it):
[sql]ALTER TABLE `dl_votes` CHANGE `value` `value` DECIMAL( 2, 1 ) UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0.0'[/sql]

I will look into your suggestion to show the amount of votes. Maybe we add it to 5.0, otherwise it will be something for the next release.

Good news for the people who wanted a download button instead the tiny links: there will be one in version 5.0 :)

HappyPike 07-27-2006 01:55 PM

Hi Jelle,

My member did some test and found out more about the voting problems. I haven't applied your fix yet.

Quote:

It seems that the rating system does not want to co-operate with me.

-when I rate A+, it gives rating A+
-when I rate A, it gives rating A-
-when I rate B+, it gives rating B-

So, it seems that it doesn't somehow register the rates A, B and so on (it completely disregards those, and handles only the ones with +?s and -?s)
Would your above fix solve the choosing B+ records B- problem too?

Also one of my members (in Registered group) reported having trouble deleting his comments, even though it worked for me.

Thanks for the upload button. :)

After using the system heavily for the last few days, another useful feature would be to allow multiple files per file entry, for things like patch. This way people don't need to re-upload the whole big file -- just the patch. This is different from allowing multiple mirrors for a file (which also would be a nice feature to have).

Thanks. It's important to show the # of votes. A file getting an A+ is very different from getting 15 A+. :)

RS_Jelle 07-27-2006 02:33 PM

Yes, the fix will solve your problem (normally) ;)

It's because the A+ has got a value of 10, A has got a value of 9.5, A- a value of 9.3, ... The database field was "int", because of that everything after the "." was lost. So 9.5 and 9.3 became 9, ... The fix changes the database field to decimal :)

I don't find it a very good system, so I think we need to recode it a bit. A+, A, A-, ... I find it a bit stupid, so we are thinking about replacing it with something more clear. Stars for example like the thread rate :cool:

The amount of votes will be something for a next release (5.1 or something like that). So we can totally revise the rating system.

Wespointer is working on a latest feature, after that 5.0.1 will be released :banana:

HappyPike 07-27-2006 02:57 PM

Cool. I will apply the fix soon. I also agree the thread rate stars is better. It's easier to see, for one thing.

BTW, is there a way to make it show just the direct sub-categories, instead of all sub-categories like it does now? I added lots of sub-cats and the sub-cat links on the main page is becoming hard to use. I know I could hide the listing on main page but it would be better to make it show the category's direct sub-cats (ex. 1 level down).

Sorry for asking so many questions. :)

RS_Jelle 07-27-2006 03:02 PM

This isn't possible at the moment, but we will look into this for the next release ;)

I think there are lots of good ideas to make the next version a 'new features release'. Now we have to find the time to code them :knockedout: :p

The most wanted feature is definitely a "report a download" function, so that's something we really need to add.

spandexman 07-27-2006 03:22 PM

I installed the mod. Changed the setting to what I wanted and allowed certian usergroups to use it. I also created categories. But when I go to the forum none of them show up? How do I get the download categories to show up so users can upload/download files?

Are you pulling up downloads.php?
