You can use any HTML code in the phrase, so you can change colors, include images, etc.

HELP with big problem.

Once I installed the hack I can no longer edit the text in phrases. Also I tried uninstalling the hack but my welcome header will still appear. I tried removing phrases but cp will tell me they can not locate the phrase ID.

now I am stuck with the header and unable to edit it or remove it. Please help. Thank you in advance

specmav 08-17-2006 10:06 PM

Ok, I can figure out how to add the HTML but I am a little stumped on the process of changing the background and text color.

Thanks in advance!

Brandon Sheley 08-18-2006 12:52 AM

is there an easy way to add the quick register hack into the guest message ?
like {$quickregister}

maybe i can just edit the quick register hack to make it look like the welcomeheader :)

Certainly. Modify the template welcome_headers to include whatever styles and images you like.

Are you certain you are running the 3.6 version on vb 3.6 or 3.5 on vb 3.5?

To remove the welcome headers, uninstall the plugin, revert the welcome_headers template and remove the $welcomeheaders variable from any template.

Ted S 08-18-2006 01:20 AM

Loco.M,
I am not aware of any way to integrate the form from that hack into the welcome headers. You could however copy the code it outputs into your welcome header template.

Shazz 08-18-2006 01:20 AM

What did you update with the 4.1.2?
________
Backpack

Ted S 08-18-2006 03:05 AM

The update resolves a minor issue where the incorrect welcome message will be displayed to guests if you disable the guest message.

adwade 08-18-2006 09:41 AM

So to update to v4.1.2 all we need to do is D/L the .xml file and re-install it with the OverWrite option set to Yes?

it_pimpin 08-18-2006 01:48 PM

This is a great add on / hack

BETIServices 08-18-2006 06:46 PM

Excellent hack, I'm not sure but after I added you hack I get a java script error and I can not find the source of the problem.

I only want to change the color and text of the guest message. Where do I put the <body bgcolor="color" text="color"></body> in the welcome_headers template.

Thanks!

libertylounge 08-18-2006 11:22 PM

You can do that in the same place you edit the guest message

AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> Welcome Headers -> Click which message you'd like to edit

You can use HTML and whatnot in that little box it gives you :)

specmav 08-18-2006 11:51 PM

Still not working! There is no change in the color or the text.

Here is the text I am using from the welcome_guest phrase.

<body bgcolor="#FF0000" text="#FFFFFF">
Text of message here
</body>

Also what is the HTML code that I need to add an image and align it to the left? What is the HTML code to override the hyperlink color per link? I want to change the link color on the guest message only but not systemwide?

Thanks in advance!

The body tag controls your entire page, not an individual block of text. It looks like you could use a quick referesher on html syntax, I recommend you take a look at www.w3schools.com/html

Let me know if you run into any issues after getting the proper html codes from there.

After reading the site you gave me and a couple others, I am still in a blur as to change the background color and text of the welcome message. Can someone please give me an example of code that I can get a feeling for what I need to do?

Thanks in advance.

ang2el 08-20-2006 11:27 AM

Ted S,

Its a Great Hack.

But this hack is not working in the "element style skins" but its working in the defualt VB style? why its not working in the "element sytle"

It was working but when I applied 3.6 element skin it stopped working and is working only in the vb default.

Thanks in advanced for the support.

Mudvayne 08-20-2006 11:54 AM

I'm using Element skin & its working fine for me.. http://www.golpo.net/forum/?styleid=4 Check it out ang2el.. btw did u edit ur header/navbar template in element skin?

ang2el 08-20-2006 01:16 PM

I don't know what went wrong with element skin, I had to edit header template and then it worked out but it would be painful if I have to edit template evertime I upgrade this hack.

Ted - been using this mod for a long time now and it certainly has made a difference to posting and registration rates - thanks.

We approve all new accounts and new members see the "Welcome new posters! " message inviting them to post after they have validated their email address and activated their account but before we have approved their account. This generates an occasional "You say to post but when I try to the system says I can't" emails - have you considered adding a separate welcome-header message for "users awaiting moderation"?

Upgrading the hack will not require you to edit any templates. however, if you upgrade a style and remove the $welcomeheaders code, you will need to go back and re-edit.

Thanks for the feedback Darat.

Not many forums seem to approve members so I have not added that feature. However, it is very simple to add to the welcome headers and as I always say... what I provide is just meant to get you started, I encourage you to add whatever messages suit your site.

mawby 08-21-2006 07:51 AM

Ted, just to let you know your version 4.1.2 xml file still has the version 4.1.1 tag in it.

Ascor 08-23-2006 01:20 AM

have installed it, thank you :)

specmav 08-23-2006 03:18 AM

Can someone please tell me how to change the background color of the welcome message to red and the text to white? I don't know what tags to use. Apparently the body tag doesnt work for changing the background.

Thanks!

Thanxx for posting this LINK Ted S. I know so very little of html and this will help me out!

Btw, your Welcome Headers Product is just superb. It is well thought out and functions perfectly. Kudos on a job-very-well-done!

tobybird 08-23-2006 11:02 PM

Thanks so much! Great hack. Clicked Install. :)

So if you use VBSEO, then you dont want to use the welcome headers? The way I read it (which could be way off...) you can use but put the $welcome headers in the navbar template instead of the header right? but it says this:

Quote:

Note: vbSEO recommends that users apply this plugin to the navbar template rather than the header template. To do so, select the navbar template, scroll to the end of it and add the code $welcomeheaders there. Save the template and do not modify your header template.
so if you dont modify your header template.....does that mean to not take out the following and just put the $welcomeheaders at the bottom of the navbar template?:

PHP Code:

 <if condition="$show['guest']">
<!--
guest welcome message -->
<
tr>
<
td class="tcat" colspan="<if condition="$vboptions['showmoderatorcolumn']">6<else />5</if>"><phrase 1="$vboptions[bbtitle]">$vbphrase[welcome_to_the_x]</phrase></td>
</
tr>
<
tr>
<
td class="alt1" colspan="<if condition="$vboptions['showmoderatorcolumn']">6<else />5</if>">
<
phrase 1="faq.php$session[sessionurl_q]2="register.php$session[sessionurl_q]">$vbphrase[first_visit_message]</phrase>
</
td>
</
tr>
<!-- /
guest welcome message -->
</if>

mlucek 08-25-2006 10:42 PM

How does this mod (a pretty sweet one) compare to the

Dynamic Announcements: Programmable Forum Home Announcement/Message with conditionals

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=97073

There's overlap in the functionality of both.

TIA.

GrendelKhan{TSU 08-28-2006 03:38 PM

is it possible to have this display over the top of a png image? like a banner but with the message over the top of it?

I thought I saw that somewhere...but have no idea how they pulled it off. :confused:

unless they just had it spit out an image with hot spots for the links. but I have a feeling it was actually displaying the message over the image. :/

dunno.

any ideas?

CarVenue.com 08-28-2006 05:32 PM

Thanks.

Installed!

pmkb 08-28-2006 06:38 PM

brvheart, you need to remove the code from the header template whether you put $welcome_headers in the header or navbar template.

brvheart 08-28-2006 07:04 PM

but does that kill VBSEO?
