did you know that Member edition is now 2.5.0

Please help...
I've installed google map but everytime i try and view i get the " you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:"

I've gone into usergroups and changed permissions( vbgooglemap Member Edition Permissions)but these keep changing back to 'no'

You need to install both with all files as instructed in the guides if you want to run both.

This thread is for the hotspot edition.

Please upload all files again, uninstall the product and reinstall.

Also make sure you download the latest versions now online.

Is there anyway that this can be incorperated into the member edition this way there would be no need for 2 seperate maps?

I know there is demand for it but on bigboards this is creating a ubercluttered map that won't serve its purpose anymore.

Maybe I should release a combo version for small boards.

I seem to have a bit of a problem now, All was fine at first, as in makers were showing up no problem and the pop ups, then i had a change of mind so deleted them to start again.

Now when i add a element the flag does not show up on the map also no pop up if you move the mouse about. The elements are there when you list elements and it zooms down to the right place on the map but no flag or pop up.

Now i am getting a error with Internet Explorer it says

I have installed and reinstalled and re uploaded all the files again still no joy.

If you reinstall the autoapprove function will probaly not be active. Can you check that in the admincp options. Can you please post a link so that I can have a closer look on the error.

Don't forget the spotmarkers.xml file when uploading and chmod it to 777

I suspect the & in the category name. Edit that one and it should work fine.

Cant understand why is says 1.0.3 because in the plugin admin it says 1.0.4 :confused:

a noob question..
actually whats the difference in between member edition & hot spot edition?

in member edition member can locate themselves in the member edition?
in that hotspot edition..they can do it too?

in the hotspot members (if they have the permission) can add more than 1 marker. hotspot is intended to allow listings of locations and locations can be anything (landmarks, travel destinations, bars, ...)

Member edition is 1 marker 1 users that's it. It's intended to show the location of members and nothing more.

Currently, detail page kinda competes with members profile page... both have similar elements and purposes... to have a profile like page.

As you may know many people are making the profile into a myspace like thing. I think this could be one better---ie: have all the same elements PLUS be mapped on google!! AWESOME!!

I just there was a way to reduce the redundancy. :(

Nice MOD stony, but I could see, with additions to locations, events, landmarks, members, etc....the map could get pretty crowded and somewhat over-bearing. What would be nice to see would be clickable balloons in the legend that when clicked on, would then populate the map with only the information the user wants to see.

Just a thought.

That was the initial architecture but as I need to set the markers asynchronous from XML with Javascript this becomes a very heavy load product as the markers file needs to be created.

However, I think I solved it for the next version as I'll create 1 file per category (1 file per usersgroup for the member edition) that should give me enough flex to build the marker filter directly.

I'm still looking for the best way to build the markers on the map. There is a way to use php but I'm not convinced that it's the best way to go as the script is written now. So I'm rewriting it.

Your second remark is in fact sort of present as the listings include a show on map function. I'll make the balloon open in the next version.

As HSE isn't really intended for Members (1 member can have N entries, member edition 1 member 1 entry) we need to discuss that somewhat.

Yes, I understand, 1 member can have N entries, but some of these entries should not be editable by other members.

eg.
1. Member X is organizing an event at a certain location and sets the marker. Member Y doesn't like this and edits the marker to a different place.
2. Member A has travelled around the world and sets multiple markers of his route. Some mean member B has fun changing his route.

And you never can be sure, that all members act correctly.

on the other hand some entries should be editable.

eg. Member C tells about his hike on top of a mountain and sets the marker. Unfortunately he made a mistake and has set it on a wrong peak. So member D has been on this mountain before, knows exactly where it is located and correct the marker.

Conclusio: some categories (like landmarks) should be editable by everyone, other catagories should only be editable by the user who has set it. Of course admins should be able to specify which category is editable by everyone and which is not!
And the categories should be able to be filtered. Let's say, default is:
by default no markers showing
people filter category "landmark" and only these would be shown
or people filter three catagories
So every user should be able to specify for himself.

I know that's a big wishlist, but this would be perfect for my forum!

I just uploaded about 3700 locations to the database table and none of them are showing markers. The "List Elements" view works great for all of them. However I can't see any of my locations on the map. Is there a setting I need to change?

Superb mod Stonyarc. Very easy to install, setup and use.

The only problem I had was having to make sure that the admins IDs were in the config.php, and not just the usergroups. Until I'd done that, the other admins couldn't see the HSE menu in the admin area, but it was very easy to sort out.

Is it possible to run the maps under a different header than the forum's. My site uses tabs in the header for navigation and to show where the user is within the site. I'd really like to able to have a tab for 'maps' that will light up when the user is viewing vbgooglemap pages. Is it possible to have a new template as header2 within the main style and show it when users are using the maps facility?

How long would it take to load 4000 markers? I added a bunch via mysql and they show up on the table view, but not in the map view.

I have added about 25 so far and it is decidedly slower than when there were 5 markers. It now takes more than 25 seconds to load. I'm assuming your 4000 markers will take more than 10-20 minutes to load.

I think this mod is really awesome - but I'm wondering if it is possible to divide up the map or something so that only a partial amount of the markers will be shown at a time. The way I would see it would be if I can have separate map for each state and I can show a map with only the markers placed in that state or something... Or if the user can select the types of markers to be shown at a time instead of seeing them all at one once.
