I am having some issues accessing giganews right now but the account appears to be functional. When I attempt to telnet to news.giganews 119 via SSH from the server, I get the following 480 error.

server# telnet news.giganews.com 119
Trying 216.196.97.131...

200 News.GigaNews.Com
GROUP alt.whatever...
480 authentication required

I know this is silly, but I have not been able to find the proper syntax to pass the user/password information.....
How do I do this?

Hi all,i'm new to this, i have installed this mod https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=92588 and it works fine in that i get the posts from microsoft.public.excel etc but any post that i post in the thread for those isn't posted to the newsgroup, i think previously i saw a message "rejected ill formed message", does anyone know how to cure this?

If you have questions/problems with a modification or style, then please post in the thread (or support forum/board) about that modification/style. Best chance to receive a reply from either the author or another member using the same modification/style.

My apologies, i have posted in the thread for that mod but the author hasn't posted there in a very long time and as other users here are all using a gateway of some sort i thought that they may be best equipped to help with my problem!

May I ask, what exactly is usenet?

Usenet is like a giant discussion forum with its own protocol and covering every topic known to mankind. Google Groups is a web-based frontend to Usenet. Or at least it started that way.

Personally, I haven't been on Usenet in at least 10 years. Used to use it all the time before the web got popular in the mid-90s.
