Now I wouldn't say that they are OFTEN the best in their field, but some of them are, I will grant you that. Nowadays, being a government employee has about as much meaning and stigma attached to it as working for the post office (which is also a government employee).
I don't pay squat in taxes now (Veteran's Disibility) and I think the government sucks at any type of accounting. And it probably always will, sad to say. ;)
As far as the younger generation not knowing what it's like to serve and protect, I don't know about you, but I had the same cocky attitude about it when I was their age. Their time will come. With age comes wisdom, or so they say (not in my case it seems these days). ;)
