Cant we make it so that every file makes up a network of code, which contains needed vBulletin file data (i.e. The vB board needs it to work), and a callback function?

Yea, and you know that little code at the bottom when you go to purcahse something like that can be embeded, and when the isntall script is called, it sends a the information about server, domain etc back to the vb servers with the little code, and then checks for double, and then if match, sends back code to disable script from running.

For EX, if anyone uses 4images, well if you remove the copyright, you get an email saying to put it back on, something similar to that.

Sadly it is true that many anime sites do run warez software. i cant tell you how many times a day im aimed by someone that knows me thru a friend thats a friend of one of my friends. always asking for a copy of ubb, or vB, or if i know where a topsite script is....

and when these sites start running vBulletin or ubb ill report them, most have been takin off the net, some are still up. but it dose show that jelsoft is working to take down warez sites.


i will also mention that many people around here might and i stress that word, be using a friends vbulletin acount to gain acess to hacks, for example one board that i know is warez has many hacks installed only for download here at vB.org

Eactly the guuys at jelsoft work hard :)
Also the owners of the liscenses should know not to do this kind of stuff.

Something like that MIGHT work if you encoded the stuff... There is nothing that stops me from sniffing all the traffic that leaves my server and then just eliminate the callbacks one by one.

On the other hand - I would never install something that was continously sending data to 'bigbrother' - 'cause that's what it'd be...

It would maybe only be a little think, hidden inside the core of vb, like that guy with the carrots in his nose, the picture, you guys know?
you can find it at like index.php?sadfsdf=sadfasfdasd, and there is a picture of dev and other stuff, Chen knows what I am talking about, and so should others who found the thread, something like that hidden beneath everything, lot of software like Ps7, and Win XP do it...Winxp does it on install, I think, or I maybe wrong.

The whole point is, it would be "great" if such at thing can be embeded, if not, we, as liscensed members have to see to reduce this problem. I am not blaming everyone in the Anime Community, but I have seen so many anime sites running vb, and maybe out of 10, only 1 is registered, and the rest get it from that 1 or something, and give it to there friends, and so on.

I have not seen it for download anywhere else, except some poorly designed anime sites, or anime sites that want its bah, if this could be stoped, then great, if not, we gotta pitch in!.

It does not matter how it is hidden.

First of all, it would take a skilled hacker a minimum of time to remove something like this since we're talking about a product that is delivered with full sources - and even if it wasn't, it would not make it to much harder to remove.

Second of all, upon noticing that it does excessive callbacks, etc, you would get a lot of pissed users and negative publicity - not that I think (hope) Jelsoft would do such a thing, but using callbacks in all parts of the script would produce some really interesting possibilities with regards to monitoring the users.

Third; Users on slow connections, or with bad pingtimes to the jelsoft server would suffer from this. It would affect pageload and whatnot. Users wanting a closed community on an intranet would be forced to chose a different product alltogheter in some cases (servers being completely inaccessible from the outside world, etc)

Doing something like this would be the sure way to kill of vBulletin, in my opinion.
