However, I am done with it. You obviously could care less about doing something nice and simple, so have a nice day.

If a mod wants to delete this, feel free too.

BYE.

Talking about being selfish, if you check my post history here you will see that from 34 mods, I uploaded only one to my forum. And 90% of my posts are in the support forums helping other users with their issues. That is how selfish I am.

On the other hand, if we check your post history, it is the other way around. 90% of your posts are how I can do this, that or how can I get this and that. You want everything handed to you ready so you don''t have to do anything yourslef. And when it comes that you need to register somewhere to get something for YOURSELF, then you start to complain and moan. So who is selfish now?

Anyway, bye and have a nice day yourself too.

That is because I didn't create none of those mods. So obviously if I have an issue, or looking for an option that the mod is supposed to have, and I cannot find it any where, or I upload the files, and get an error, then obviously I would ask for help. 8 times out of 10 the developer/creator of the mod has experienced the issue, or someone else has and told the creator about the issue and how they fixed it/

Asking questions is the only way to find anything out. Plus, a lot of it, I figure out on my own, and after doing all the resources, I cannot get a solution, then I ask for help.

You have had me and atleast 1 other member in this forum ask you to kindly upload it to vb.org so we can download and use the new update part of the mod, and you simply refused and basically said you don't feel like doing it twice. That is being selfish.

If I created a mod and put it on here, then came up with a update, and said go to xyz.com to download the update, you would say the same thing we all did...what is the point on registering at any site to download 1 file, and then never go back to it again?

You can call me selfish all you like, but I am not the one who created a mod, then came up with an update, put it on my site, and then flat out tell people, either download it from my site now, or be stuck with a mod that works great against non registered members trying to view content, but sucks when it comes to spiders/crawlers that help get your site on search engines. That is selfish.

I thought you were done with this thread :D

That ain''t selfish at all. I created that mod originally for someone who requested it at my forum and then I uploaded it here as well to share it with everyone else. Now a new version has been released at my forum. So whomever wants to download it, all it takes is a minute to register. If you don''t want to, then don''t. No one is forcing no one to register no where. But if you want that mod then you must register to download it.

You can''t expect me to upload it here as well because you can''t take one minute to do something for yourself. Sorry to say this but you sound like a spoiled brat that wants everything handied over, without having to do nothing at all. And when they don''t get it their way, then they begin to whine, complain and moan. If that ain''t selfish, then I don''t know what is.

P.s. If you see in other mods, most coders do that as well when they release another version with more features. They place it for download at their own forums, some paid and some free.

Then you shouldn't offer a mod here that is not fully workable. The file that is currently listed, is one that allows both individuals who are not signed in to only view the content of the first post on each thread page, but NOT spiders. So therefore, this mod is broke.

But if you rather do that, instead of uploading a fully functioning mod, that is your choice.

To call me a spoiled brat is very childish and just shows your level of maturity. You know nothing about me except for what type of replies I put on a forum. I work very hard every day of the week to support my family. Some hard labor and some not.

I work for everything that I get.

As I mentioned before, I DON'T create these mods, so I only know how they work and function based on what the creators of the mod tell members how it is supposed to work. When I ask them for help or "how do you do this" type of questions, it is mainly sometimes because I get an error message that I have no clue of what it means, or what is causing it to show up.

Or I ask a question if the mod is supposed to do something specific and it doesn't.

To me, you making people register at your forums to download your mod is just an excuse to get members to join, but I rather have members join who will participate rather than members who only join to be smoochers and never participate.

But it is your choice, and I will respect it. Like I said, you do make some good/decent mods, and this was one of them, but since your not willing to upload a fully workable version, then I guess some of us never will know.

Take care.

<sigh>

Developers of Mods are owners of the respective mods and have certain rights;
As far as I can see, the original mod was revised to exclude spiders;
and the Developer has made it very clear to get the revised mod from his board;

From a personal point view, if I want the revised mod, I would have to register in order to download the revised mod; I had no problems with the registration; I wish to add that I registered at another 2 boards in order to download something but alas after I registered I found that there were certain conditions that I had to fulfill.

Developers are creating mods for free here (at least not all wants to be compensated in one way or another); If I wanted the revised mod but do not want to get it from his/her board, I would PM the developer, stating valid reasons and request nicely whether he/she would be kind enough to send it to me

The mod works fine. It is not broke at all. Anyway, I am sorry if I offended you with that spoiled brat comment, but you sounded very much like that. Look at how you asked me to upload the second version of my mod here:

Quote:

How about making the new version available here, for members who are not on your forum?
Like I owe it to you or something. No please, no nothing. If you can''t or don''t want to register at my forum to get it, then you should have posted in a different way, asking me politely and I would have uploaded it here. But not like that.

And I work as well and sometimes 2 jobs to support my family. And yet, I still find the time to help others around here as much as I can. SO you are not the only one that works :)

Take care as well.

Exactly. But as you saw it yourself the asking was not made kindly, far from it.
Thank you for the understanding btw :)

Borbole:

I was making the comment for all members who might like to download the mod and use it on their forum in a full working version. If you have one version here, and the other version located solely on your forum alone, and that one works slighty better than the one here, that that is NOT a fully working mod.

However, view it however you wish. I was just getting a point across. I learn more and more each day that goes by when it comes to technical stuff. Some I am still learning, and others I have mastered for years now.

It is your mod and you are welcome to do with it what you wish. I simply won't register at a forum that I may or may not ever use again. All together, my information is probably on well over 50+ forums for a variety of things, and the sad part is, I don't even visit but just a slight few. That is all our point.

I have used and still use some of your other mods since they do work all together.

Whenever you decide if at all to upload it here, then I will use this one as well, since it was quite useful, and helped to avoid "lurkers" not turning into members.

So now you are users representative? :D You should speak for yourself and let the other users speak for their own selves.

Anyway, this discussion is getting a bit annoying, no offence meant. The thing is very simple, if you want to download the mod, you know where to do so. If you don''t then don''t. What can I say? But let us not discuss about this anymore.

They did, and you were rude to them as well.

Wilfred1 09-06-2010 09:57 PM

and now for something different...:D, about the mod

I have always been led to believe that if Google indexes your site and adds the posts to their search, if a person clicks on a link in a Google search and get a "You can't see this" on your site then eventually Google will find out and black ban your site...I have heard this happening many times.

I use to use a "Guest first post only mod" on my 3.8 site without spider access and it hurt my Google ranking something chronic. Allowing spiders without allowing the post to be seen by a guest via a search engine link has been discussed many times at VBSEO and here on vb and every time it has resulted in "Don't Do It".

So can you advise why it would be different with this mod...thanks
