If you would read previous posts, it is your responsibility to handle how DOBs are limited on your board. You can easily force users to provide the information during registration and then disallow them from changing it themselves later on.

Kirk Y, you are right about responsibility, but I have the same concerns as DubaiHost. I think that restricting forums by age and disallowing to change birthday might lead to fake accounts by underaged users. Nonetheless I would restrict such forums, since I hope that most underaged users do not try to gain access. It is a bad excuse to say that they will break your restriction anyway.

I think I refrain from opening an "adult" section. Looks like it causes too many headaches, which are not worthwile if you intend to keep it small and do not want to earn a ton of money with it.

There's always a way around the system. Even if we had credit card age verifications, people could use another person's credit card. Infallibility does not exist.

can this be easily modified to prevent under 18's viewing specific forums?

briansol 08-11-2008 08:05 PM

This doesn't appear to be working for forums that also have a password on them.

Ie, i have a nws forum of which the password 'nws' needs to be entered to view.

I added thei product, and as a guest, as long as i enter nws, i can still see it.

I've been needing something like this, thanks. Installed.

Until I hear from the creator of this product, I won't release it, but there's a simple, one-word-edit to restrict under-aged people from viewing threads.

Yes, someone can still go in and change their birthday, but under-aged people can still hit "I'm Over 18" on adult sites, too. It's their responsibility to provide you with the correct information, and if they really want to, they'll change their info.

I don't require people to enter their b'days at registration on one of my forums, but I still want to keep it a "family-friendly" site while at the same time provide a small space for our over-18 members to have their adult conversations, and post images that contain adult-oriented material (no porn).

I really need this line of code that will stop the under 18s from viewing threads..
