*note* I havent read anything in this thread.
My opinion is this... I had bought a PSP when it came out, i also purchased a 1 gig stick for it. In my opinion, its a waste of money. Sure, it has a few games, but they mostly suck. Sure, you can watch movies on it. BUT YOU HAVE TO PAY 15 BUCKS FOR IT! THEN YOU CANT WATCH IT ON ANYTHING ELSE....... Sure, you can listen to music, but only friggin 1 gig worth.... Sure, it has internet... but it sucks. in retrospect, psp sucks... ipod is MUCH better |
My opinion having only read the post Wayne made that I quoted is quite simple and cannot be disputed: the PSP and iPod are in different product markets entirely and cannot be compared. Like OS X is to Windows, one is suited for some tasks and the other is suited for others.

You can even get a 4gb hard drive now. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....&ref=06&loc=01 Quote:

You do realize that adding the hard drive erases any price difference between the PSP and iPod 5G, don't you? Not only that but you get less storage space. Even with that, your mind seems set. Buy a PSP and enjoy it. Others will buy iPods and enjoy them. I personally will be getting a portable DVD player with a 9" screen for less than both of them. |

I already got the psp lol. That is true about paying less for an ipod 5gb though. |
Is iTunes really that big of a deal for PC users ??? I never really considered that as being a negative aspect of the iPod's, and actually I've always considered it a good thing. My first MP3 player could be filled from multiple music programs, but almost all of them had issues. I think by keeping the iPod's proprietary to iTunes you eliminate a large majority of issues that could arise othewise.
(I should mention I primarily use an iBook, so I guess I've just gotten used to iTunes for listening to my music.) |

I also don't have to worry about licensing issues to play the music on Media Connector devices such as and XBOX360 or a set-top box from another company. Nor do I have to burn it to a CD and then rip it back and risk file degradation and artifacting. And I can do all of this from a single application, Windows Media Player 10. I don't have to use the software that ships with the MP3 player if I don't want to. Combine that with a customizable interface, the ability to expand the codecs used and a lot of other little features and iTunes really starts to pale in comparison. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...s/default.aspx |
I don't mind iTunes - only because I use it to put songs on my iPod and thats it and it does a decent job of that. I don't really care about any of the other aspects of the program.

Well, at risk of sounding old fashioned, I'm more like:
Games = PC or Game Cube Music = Stereo or 256MB Generic MP3 Player. Why spend hundreds of Pounds on something that I don't need? I mean like my little MP3 Player holds 2.5 hours of music which is more than enough for me even when I'm travelling to the other side of the City via Bus to visit my Maternal Grandparents. |
