I don't understand the question. What is a "quick links access"? Are you trying to say you have some buttons missing from your AdminCP?

EDIT:
You need administrative & maintenance rights.

Hi,

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm using this plugin for vBulletin 3.8 and I'm about to upgrade to version 4.1.

Please let me know which steps I must follow in order to upgrade this plugin at the same time (to use the version compatible with 4.1) and keeping the current banners and stats.

Thank you very much!

sweetpotato 08-25-2011 12:51 AM

It works like a charm for me with VB 4.1.5. How can I combine it with VB advertising?

I uninstalled all my addons when I went from vb3 to vb4. Seemed safer. Obviously you won't lose banners as they're just graphics files, and you likely have them stored locally anyway.

There are already many examples in this thread.

Thanks for your reply Videx.

I know about the graphics and SWF files. They are in a folder, in my web server. I mean the settings per banner, and in some cases, the code I put in the code field to display the SWF banners. Not to mention the 30+ banners I would need to enter/setup manually again. I would prefer to avoid that.

And last, but not least, the stats. I need to keep them as they currently are. For instance, some customers have paid for many months in advance and at the end of the period they want to know how many impressions and how many clicks were delivered.

I really hope there is no need to uninstall this plugin in order to upgrade both vBulletin and the plugin itself.

y2ksw 08-25-2011 02:44 PM

There is no need to uninstall. You will have to make the template changes with the new styles though.

Thanks for your reply Giovanni. : )

So, once I upgrade to vBulletin 4.x, I just need to upload the RBS files compatible with this version and enable the plugin again from the /admincp

Is it all there is to it?

Edit: I mean, besides editing the templates, as I know they changed in vBulletin 4.x.

ahobilam 08-25-2011 04:01 PM

I installed it but I could not customize it.
I tried much and then left it for google.
thanks,
nvs

You don't need to upgrade if you are happy with the version you have. This product is compatible from vBulletin version 3.6.5 to 4.x with no changes.

What did you try to customize?

In the very first post there is a movie showing what and how to do in order to get it run. Also there are several examples in this thread for all kinds of applications.

To reassume (4.x forums):
  1. Install the product
  2. Edit the template ad_navbar_below and add:
    Code:

    <!--@vbbanners:0@-->
  3. Save
  4. Watch it running

I uploaded all the files in the 2.3.2 zip to the root, clicked on install addon and it failed saying install files that came with the addon... any ida? does the .php need to be in the root as well, or remain in the "addon" subfolder?

using 4.1.5

Mikea113n 08-26-2011 01:29 AM

Fixed. NVM. New to this whole addons thing.

Hm. Maybe it would be better you had a look into the help file (Installation) first. You normally would not upload the whole file ;)

Mikea113n 08-28-2011 09:18 PM

You're right... it wasn't really that though, its that I'm very new to coding and all of this... its been a huge learning curve, but I love it. I have a new question now... I have the center div code working.. for one banner, but I want to string together 3 banners and center them on the page side by side... but the way I'm doing it it puts them centered, but under eachother... so.. how do I get the inline to work..

then, if I wanted to put a second line of 3 directly under the first... do I just put a div or break in?

To place one banner beneath or below another, you just repeat the placeholder in the way you wish, and make sure you have at least the number of entries in the database, e.g. (3 banners):
Code:

<!--@vbbanners:0--> <!--@vbbanners:0--> <!--@vbbanners:0-->
You always just apply HTML. If div or br, that's all up to you :)

<
div class="banner">
<

<!--@
vbbanners:0@--><!--@vbbanners:1@-->

Assuming you have not changed the replacement variable in the options:
Code:

<!--@vbbanners:%d@-->
The placeholders must look like:

Code:

<!--@vbbanners:0@-->
or
Code:

<!--@vbbanners:1@-->
...

If they do look like this, your PHP may have disabled str_replace, but unlikely because then even vBulletin would not work. I guess you have misspelled a placeholder, instead ... ;)

That's the code you have here: it places two banners in a row (if you have that many in your database).

i downloaded the whole thing, read the whole guide, either im really fast reading and really slow understanding, or there's something i missed. Using vBulletin 4.0.2. And not even the default ads show.

Using 4.1.3 PL3 and having the same problems.

Tried it on custom skins, and default skin. But still a no go.

y2ksw 09-05-2011 08:57 PM

Almost all issues (98%) we have had yet are because you people believe in magic :)

The other 1.5% of problems are because as a first step after installing you delete right away the default banners, without inserting however a valid and working banner. A 0.4% finally forgets they have vbSEO HTML cleaning options enabled. An the rest (0.1%) are missing images, erratic HTML, misspelling or true server related problems. ;)

This product does not modify your styles, templates or messages by itself. You will have to open a template and make a change to it, adding for example:

Code:

<!--@vbbanners:0@-->
and save. Then (if you have still the default banners) one of them show up at the designed location. Once you have mastered this step, all the rest is just a question of trial and failure.

So, please take a deep breath and retry. It's really easy.

No I don't have vbSEO installed nor did I delete the default banners. I am trying to show the default banners only as of now but no luck.

It has worked for me from 3.x right through to 4.1.5 so if it's not working for you you're doing something wrong.

I haven't had yet one single case where it didn't work or where I wasn't able to get it run in some way.

Thus I'm sure I can prove you wrong :)

If you have a site online, please send me the credentials for an admin account with maintenance, settings and styles rights via PM.

I would have loved to but as of now I have settled with vbsponsor plugin and though I have the plugin installed it is de-activated. If I plan to re-activate it once again I will PM You. Thanks for offering such great help.

There are no instructions with this other than a big PDF file explaining what it is.

I have uploaded the files in upload, imported the xml into admincp and the ad system is there. I even uploaded the addons folder to the forum root and the content of the addons folder to the forum root since there were no instructions saying what to do with that folder.

So I now have this banner system in there and I can see there are two default ones, but they do not display on the forum at all. Do I need to edit my templates to get them to show?

x YNWA x 09-08-2011 04:05 PM

Ok So I had to disable the cleanup of HTML on VBSEO for it to work, which is a shame.

So what I am trying to get my head around is these positions.

I have 1 advert there and on the advert page it asks me to choose a position. In my template I have <!--@vbbanners:0@--> global under the nav bar and I also have <!--@vbbanners:0@--> in the rotating banner settings page.

But if I change the banner to position 6, the banner still appears, how does all that work?

Also in the options, do I need to edit the Nth placeholder to add more positions or do I just leave it as <!--@vbbanners:0@-->? If I want more positions to be used, do I just fill the box like this <!--@vbbanners:0@-->, <!--@vbbanners:1@-->, <!--@vbbanners:2@--> etc.?

I want to use several positions.

1 global under nav
1 under thread list
1 after 15 posts
1 after each post
1 after the forum lists but above the footer, who's online etc. I realise I may need to do some manual edits to achieve this.

Just trying to get my head around the placeholder thing. Thanks

You can use vbSEO HTML cleaning, but then you have to change the placeholder to something different than a HTML comment. As told in the large PDF file :)

You normally would use the same placeholder over and over again in most of your templates. The formula inside will fill each same placeholder with a different banner as long as you have some in the database. You very rarely would use another "location" than 0. Thus, you would use

<!--@vbbanners:0@-->

one or more times in a page, and each time another banner appears, unless you have less available.

Of course, the placeholder looks the way as defined in the options ;)
