The manual I have doesn't seem to have the instructions necessary, can someone send me the manual they are referring to so that i may compare?

attroll 07-06-2011 04:09 PM

I have all the banners working now except flash banners.
I have flash banner check marked
I have the banner width set to 400
I have the banner height set to 50
I have the dates set correctly

Here is the flash that I am trying to display.
www.whiteblaze.net/banners/at-topo.swf

Thank you

I agree the way that pdf manual was written it will fly right over the heads of many users. It needs a "Quick setup" on page 1 that tells you to simply:
  1. Go to AdminCP>Advertising>Add new Ad
  2. Click "Above Footer", name the ad "RBS 0 Above Footer" and paste this into the Ad HTML box: "<div align="center"><!--@vbbanners:0@--></div>"
  3. Hit Save.
... then continue with setting up your first non-flash simple test banner. At this point there's so much confusion I think a test banner or two - simple .jpgs - should probably just be included.

You do a lot of good work on this mod. If you need help, just ask. But I only run simple banners myself so I'd be useless trying to help anyone get Flash working.

CruiserCommando 07-06-2011 05:25 PM

thanks videx, that information I'm sure will be most helpful, now I just have to figure out what is going on with my advertisement section of the AdminCP, everytime I click on manage ads, or add new ad, it simple shows a blank page, and when I try to navigate to another part of the admincp, the blank page persists to the point where I have to reload the page....fun stuff. Thanks again, I'll let you know when its up and running.

Blank pages may be caused also from failing to load external content, such as java-script contents from advertising servers.

Hi everyone,

I feel like such a noob, I uploaded the files via FTP then went into my admin cp and add/import plugins. However I get this error:
Please upload the files that came with the product before installing or upgrading!

Missing files: (It says nothing here!)

Can anyone point me in the right direction of whats going wrong!

Many Thanks

You likely uploaded the files to the wrong path. Make sure you upload the CONTENTS of uploads to the root, not the folder itself. The path layout in the uploads folder matches the layout for vBulletin so do that and problem should go away. The file upload has to be there in the right place before importing any vBulletin plugin.

y2ksw 07-08-2011 02:50 PM

Additionally, it may be possible that your FTP rights differ from the rights of your web server, thus files may be there but can't be seen by the web server.

Londonladadz 07-08-2011 04:24 PM

I tried uploading the contents files to my webserver using CPanel and got the same error. To confirm I am uploading the files from the admin folder and xml folder to the corresponding folders on my webserver then uploading rbs_banner.php and the stats.php to my forum root directory.

Thanks for the quick replies!

sorry i am a total noob at this, where do i insert @vbbanners@ if i want it to show at the top of every page?

attroll 07-09-2011 07:57 PM

I have been experiencing a issue with flash banners. When I have a flash banner show up under my navbar and then I click in one of my drop down boxes in the navbar the flash banner appears on top of the drop down box. This cover up the items in the dropdowns. How can I prevent this from happening?

Play around with AdminCP>Advertising>Add new Ad. And be sure to read this entire thread (which you're always supposed to do before installing any mod).

Hi,

Thank you for your replay. I have 2 questions:
1. If my flash has an internal URL I can't track clicks? do i get this right?
2. I guess when you wrote the Text field you meant the field with the description:
"
TextThis field may hold any kind of script (e.g. Google AdSense) and/or HTML which will be inserted in your pages. Please make sure it works and that all tags are closed properly.
"

When you say "leave the other fields empty" - what fields are you referring to?

Thanks

Same screen of same vbCMS article on same machine using Firefox 5.0 places banner from this mod at bottom in footer. (see pic on the right below)

I don't understand where to look to fix it, given in works in one browser and not the other. :confused:

Note: does not happen on forum home screens or other screens, just vbCMS ..

Any help would be appreciated ... :)

Here is a followup to my post #1375.
I have included two screen shoots showing how the flash banner lies on top of the drop down menu.

I would really appreciate some help.

Londonladadz 07-10-2011 07:21 PM

I've figured out the first issue.

I have a quick question and this this might be nooby, but how would I centre the banner located in ad_navbar_below?

Many Thanks!

open the XML file and add to the EMBED tag:

wmode="transparent"

I thought this might fix a similar problem I'm having, only with Safari and in vbCMS articles, but unfortunately it didn't.

See attached pic showing where footer placement with this mod overwrites top of vbCMS article ...

Thanks any way .... :)

Any other suggestions? Perhaps there's something that needs to be changed in the HTML code for in the template as to how and when it places the banner?

Regards,
Doug

I am sure you meant the installation XML file. The product is already install.
Wouldn't that mean that I need to edit one of the plugins? If so, which one.
I have tried putting this code in with no luck.
Where would I put the "wmode="transparent".

attroll 07-11-2011 04:58 PM

I found out where to place the code so that the flash banners will not be placed over the top of dropdown menus.

Go to you plugins and find the plugin "".

Find this code:
PHP Code:

$embed '<embed src="' $bburl '/rbs_wrapper.swf" FlashVars="banner=' $image '&jlink=' $url iif($rs['width'], '&bwidth=' $rs['width']) . iif($rs['height'], '&bheight=' $rs['height']) . '" loop="false" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/get/flashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" ' iif($rs['width'], ' width="' $rs['width'] . '"') . iif($rs['height'], ' height="' $rs['height'] . '"') . '></embed>'

Insert this code:
PHP Code:

wmode="transparent"

It should not look like this:
PHP Code:

$embed '<embed src="' $bburl '/rbs_wrapper.swf" wmode="transparent" FlashVars="banner=' $image '&jlink=' $url iif($rs['width'], '&bwidth=' $rs['width']) . iif($rs['height'], '&bheight=' $rs['height']) . '" loop="false" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/get/flashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" ' iif($rs['width'], ' width="' $rs['width'] . '"') . iif($rs['height'], ' height="' $rs['height'] . '"') . '></embed>'

Londonladadz 07-13-2011 07:14 AM

Right I've got it centred, thanks for the reply.

When I disable the google ad, that comes with the plugin. The ad disappears even though I have one installed. So, to confirm:

URL: URL to linked website that is being advertised
Image/Flash: Image URL

So as an example
URL: http://www.google.com
Image/Flash: http://www.example.com/image.png
Tick click tracking
I leave the flash banner options as I'm not using flash, just an image
Max Clicks: 300

Thats correct right? As I dont seem to see an ad when I disable the google ones. Im expecting for a proper face palm moment but as long as it gets sorted ill happily take the palm!

Please watch the movie (link in the very first post) to see how and where to operate. Also, reading the help file may help a lot. :)

When you have flash banners which show over menues, they are not transparent. This is a general problem with flash banners and eventually you fix it with the attribute wmode="transparent" and explicit code. However, using the wrapper you should not have this problem, because it is transparent.

  1. If you use the wrapper, you can.
  2. Create a new banner and just fill the fields you really need. This is what I mean :)

Maybe the div tag is defined in CSS in a way it will look weird on Safari :)

Sorry, it's just an idea. I have no real clue about HTML.

gotcha! You didn't read the help :)

<div align="center">...</div> will do the job.

You better use:
<!--@vbbanners:9@--><br />
<!--@vbbanners:9@-->

Because: you can reuse the same position as often as you want for the same banner type on the same page. All you need is enough banners in your database ;)

Check also the time frame. I have found that many servers are out of sync quite a lot (few hours to few days) and thus banners will not show because they are "expired" or not yet to be shown :)

Thanks Giovanni ...

I even tried removing the <div> code and just leaving this as the only thing in the template:

<!--@vbbanners:0@-->

... and it still appears at the top of the forum instead of the bottom, overwriting the navbar area ...

Regards,
Doug

Edit: Problem fixed ....

Old template contents:
<div align="center"><!--@vbbanners:0@--></div>

New template contents:
<div align="center" class="block"><!--@vbbanners:0@--></div>

For some reason, Safari browsers on any platform including iPhones/iPads needs to see the code changed as shown in the New template.

y2ksw 07-16-2011 08:02 PM

Nice, I knew you would have checked it out :D

jbizzle 07-18-2011 02:36 AM

I'm trying to add the ads in between two forum categories, is that possible? I can't figure out how..
