There are now two questions.
How can this happen and where is the origin place where the wrong link is shown?
And why does the url work with &language=en when in Vbet options
Translation links type = Create URL's according to SEO link consensus (i.e. '/en/address')
is activated?

Is .htaccess causing the problem?

I just installed your add on to my forum at http://mfestforum.com/forum It works great and translates the pages but when you try to click on the default language of English it doesn't go back to it. It stays on the language that you translated it to. I have tried it on both Firefox and Chrome and it does this.

Anything that I am missing or did incorrectly? I don't have VBSEO setup.

Ive run this mod since it started, yes it does bring traffic but it kills servers and has many other bugs, deformed pages, broken links to name a few. Just look at Google and Bing caches of your pages and in webmaster tools, many, many errors.

Until you sort the code out and the vbseo integration the rest of the vB community will continue to laugh at you. Seriously, im not being a +++++, i really like this product but you do not beta testing, have no bug testing, release bad code and it is slow as hell. Also making VBET users edit VBSEO files is a joke, and very unprofessional. VBSEO is an excellent product and you are undermining them.

Here is my server load after uninstalling VBET, the changes are dramatic. The server is a 32 core AMD with 8gigabytes of RAM and 4 SCSI 15k drives in RAID 10, a real powerhouse.

The only thing I have done is uninstall VBET completely, not just disable in vB admincp, as this still leaves the product installed due to all the custom file edits.

And here is Google webmaster tools reports for user page speed (data is delayed, still dropping) and crawler page speed, the results are dramatic. We're talking a up to a 10th of what it was, so 10 seconds load times down to 2! 700ms page crawl times down to 75ms.

So all you people like me whom like extra traffic, make sure you getting that and not trading foreign language traffic and upsetting off all your native speakers in the process with bad load times and deformed pages, broken links and also annoying Google and getting less native traffic than before installing. Seriously, I cannot emphasize how much this mod hurts your site.

Take note VBET, sort you code out you are doing nothing but harming vBulletin users and making money from it!

Dave, what version of the software were you running? I'm assuming you're running some kind of datastore cacher?

I've personally had great results with the latest version for 3.8. I've had vBET installed for a year now and my non-english speaking traffic is up 230%! (english speaking traffic is up 20% from last year)

Yeah, xcache, vboptimise, powerful server, everything setup and tweeked to perfection. The stats dont lie, im still getting the same traffic still as google hasnt dropped the pages yet and load and everything is so low. Old translated content is currently 301'd to english. Must be the translated pages, there is no other explanation.

Im not disputing traffic increases, but check your forum, the mod creates broken pages, broken links all sorts, seriously, check everyone of your pages in a browser. Also, traffic hits is one thing, but is this increasing your posts/threads? is it turning off your regular members, all the foreign content mixed in with english, do you really know the effect it is having on your community other than more hits in server logs.

Id love to see your google wmt stats, what sort of page speed and crawl speed you are getting ;) As soon as page speed becomes a bigger issue, people running this are going to see some serious traffic drops, big G wont tolerate 10sec page loads. And that is what wmt reports these pages as taking to render. wmt doesnt lie either.

Yeh, unfortunately my page load times weren't as good to begin with as they could be, but in my testing vBET didn't have a serious effect on load times. My bottleneck is apache and my webserver. I'm running vBO, memcache, nginx proxy, CDNs, etc. I've come to the conclusion that this simply won't be better until I have, at the least, a load balanced pair of powerful web servers + the database server. I wouldn't mind having a RAID 10 array either!

Where were you seeing broken links? I have several mods installed that are also translated (vbdynamics, a custom database) and haven't run across any issues.

Questions: Did you have all 52 languages enabled? From what I've experienced this is a big issue in itself. When google sees all those pages it starts crawling, which creates a serious load. The process of getting phrases and caching them for the first time is very intensive, regardless of how bug free the code is, especially if you have all 52 languages enabled. Then re-caching every 15 day cycles and serving up 52x of pages you have is just that, expensive. I only have 12 enabled and the space required to cache and serve up 150,000 threads isn't too bad, but yes, it does add to resources needed.

As far as the effects on the community go, I can see how there can be a negative effect. For my site there hasn't been simply because conversions into members was low to begin with. If it does become a problem, this is just another dimension of community management that has to be sorted. I've thought about handling different languages on many levels, including a corporate environment. The concept of translating on the fly in a community is the best way to handle this that I've seen.

Load, page speed times and crawl page times are even worse while the cache is being built, all these stats are from a fully cached translation database, so being pulled from mysql, no writing. Broken links includes the breadcrumbs linking to pages that don exist, clone/duplicate pages being generated with bizarre query strings as urls. Similar threads disappearing and being posted in the post content instead of the actuall post text, all sorts. Also, when checking many thousands of pages in the cache of google and bing finding pages being cut off, so only being indexed upto post 5 of a 20 post thread, footers missing, all sorts. This is because the bots dont crawl like a browser and the bots generate pages with errors, the issue is if the bot is first to the page, it is translated wrong and then every user that accesses it sees the bad generation from cache. I could go on, basically for any serious SEO it is a wild goose, you have no way of controlling it, it messes with too much. I like control, without this mod my site code is 100% perfect, with it im constantly chasing bugs. IMO those that havent seen these serious SEO bugs are thos that have not properly searched for them or dont know how to spot them, no offence. They are not always obvious. Seriously uninstall for just a few days and check all your stats, you'd be amazed. I'd been running it so long i thought these high figures were normal. I tried vbo, CDN, new servers everything and all it took was to remove this to get all the metrics reporting desirable results.

Personally I have not had any problems with VBET, I bought the paid version, and installed it along with my licenese VBSEO and VBAdvanced and Vbulletin v3.8.6 and the only thing I had to uninstall was the sitemap, I could not get it to work.

Yes, I was a pain to edit a couple of the VBSEO files and get the .htaccess just right, in fact the included docs on VBET is not totally right, I read almost ever post on VBET own forums, and was able to piece together a couple major changes I needed, mainly because of my usage of VBSEO and VBAdvanced.

But afterwards it is running smooth, and at worse maybe 1% more cpu power, and I have a very active forum with over 10,000 users at anyone time posting new posts, and over 1million hits per day of just plain guests lurking and browsing the forums.

As for increased traffic VBET helped my overall worldwide ranking to go down, but since I already clocking in $5,000 a month in adsense, I didn't notice any increase in money from the extra traffic, but I do have some very happy new members from spain, france, germany, dutch, and even perisan that love the auto-translation figure, and my previous half million english only forum members have not had one complaint about the new posts or setup.

I am of course running a very powerful server, is it totally dedi. rack with dual 24 core servers, one for the mysql and the other for www, with alot of custom settings in the mysql and php, fast-cgi, along with eaccelator, memcache, apc (alot tho, memcache I turned off), and tons of ram 32gigs. -- RAM IS VERY IMPORTANT!

I been in the web hosting business since before it existed, and started with running Delphi and later Genie (the big dial-in mainframes) and I see nothing wrong with VBET, except it is not supported by VBSEO (because of the file edits), but hard to get around that when you have two packages wanting to re-write URL's on the fly.

Support on the other hand with VBET is not so good, they are quick to close of support threads, and not fast on repling, so unless you are 1,000% expert in editing and running a dedi. server I would not recommend jumping into the frying pan on this one.

One thing is for sure, you must enable just a few languages at first if you have a very large forum, I enabled about dozen per week, until everything got cached and converted, and be prepared to have tons of free hdd space, once a heavy forum like mine got all 52 langs. going, we had an SQL that was almost 100 gigs in size so far!

Oh'yeah, one thing I forgot is the FULL FILE CACHE for GUESTS is not perfect, I found it better to leave it off, and just use the normal database grabbing for guests.

Could someone explain why this option exists? I don't understand, under what circumstances one would want GUESTS to have webpages translated, but not allow registered users to have the same.

In other words, this option seems backwards to me. I would expect an option to not allow GUESTS to have automatic translations, and instead allow only registered users access to translated text. :confused:

What it this '123test' inside of your table name... Did you made any code changes?... Or it is part of your table prefix? Did you change table prefix after vBET installation? Please download latest vBET version and install again.

And now answer from vBET owner: The guy which made this thread - Dave Hybrid is lying. He refused vBET support. He claims that he got 10 seconds page loading, but when we him asked to give at least one link to such page he refused.

The guy - Dave Hybrid - is cheater ant thief (it is true - I have proofs for that - see below). He was making other translation mod and I (Michał Podbielski) was cooperating with him. For this cooperation all donations which came to the mod suppose to be mine. After he closed the mod it appears that he was stealing because he didn't gave me any donation which he got for the mod. He is angry, because I made my own mod and after this he tried to reopen his own, what was total failure for him. That is how I became competition for him and why he is angry and writes lies. He was also cheating people on vbulletin.org that he was author of the mod, but he wasn't - he has no idea about programming.

What he is doing now is simply hate campaign - just Google some of his text from this thread and you will see that he spammed this post everywhere he could. Hate campaign made by thief, cheater and layer, and as we see also spammer. Hate campaign made because he failed with his own translation mod. See here for proofs:

And this is the true about what vBSEO team wrote on their forum: seeing is believing - now you see that he is able to create any graph he wants and write anything just to get his goal. On my free version plugin page he even wrote that he would write anything just to get one more mod download (moderators of vbulletin.ogr forum removed this post). And now this layer is doing the same - just for other reason: he is writhing anything just to make vBET loose at least one customer.

What is the target date for the next vB 3x PRO release that will incorporate other API's besides just Google?

After installing this a lot of sleeping mysql processes are appearing waiting up to 40 seconds and lot of network connections to google 500-1500 are reported when checking via netstat.

Switching on/off the cache brings nothing.

Optimising mysql configuration - changing buffer sizes etc also dosn't help

Allowing apache to keep the connection longer alive also brings nothing.

Seems it is simply the problem of waiting for google to translate the sent text, that could take a while and why so many sleeping processes and permanent connections to google server.

I think this could be escaped if one can have his own translator engine. Do you now if there is a one that one can install on his own server and provide online translation?

Right now google api v1 sets its new, more strict, limits, so if You see blank page, there are some translations missing, You have probably reached your requests/translation limits.

Paid Google API is changed to FREE Yandex translation API. It supports less language pairs, but gives 1 000 000 FREE characters/DAY to translate. To compare Google gives 0 and Microsoft only 2M/month.

Of course all 53 languages - each to each are still supported in full PRO version.
