If I modify the template and i.e. changed all the stylevars and such and then when the update comes out, and reupload it, will I lose all of these changes? D:

it is meant to be getting updated today or tomorrow prab diff timezone from the uk lol

This update has alot of changes I recommend installing a clean install of this skin.
But for those that have highly modified skins make sure you copy the contents of additional.css, editor.css, editor-contents.css to your board.

I have also styled the new editor to be brown matching the skin
