Hi Andrew!

This is a great hack! :smoke:

Is it possible to have featured sites per catagory? So that favourites are shown as featured only in the catagory/catagories that favourite is in....

That would be great because it does not make sense to have a featured dog in a cat catagory :lick:

Langly 03-02-2006 03:15 AM

I logged in a test account that was a registered user and tried to upload a file. I have uploads enabled and permissions set to allow registered users to upload. The upload tried to complete but at the end it said "I did not have a catagory set for the upload" so it didn't accept it. The funny thing is that I tried uploading from the directory I was uploading to. When setting the info for the upload there was no option for a catagory. Is this normal? When logged in as Admin I have catagories to choose from but registered users don't.

Any clues?

Are you using forum-based permissions? If so, there's an annoying little bug that Ophelia discovered. See a few posts back for a modified version of local_links_include.php that fixes this bug. I have not yet had the chance to upload this as part of the full package.

Langly 03-02-2006 03:31 AM

I know you have a lot on your plate; what are the chances of having a way for having files added to the downloads also having their descriptions and/or a link to them added to a specified forum. Like have LDM use a default "user" to post a new thread in a specified forum. The forum admin can preset certain ways it can be displayed and posted.

DOH! Sorry about that, I must have missed it earlier.

I can see the use of this - I'm beginning to think that the best way to handle suggestions like yours is to place a full set of 'hooks' to LDM (like in VB), so that people can easily create these sorts of patches without having to modify the central logical of LDM.

However, interplay between LDM and forums is potentially risky as I don't want to trigger the destruction of someone's bulletin board! Connecting LDM with the posts table might have side effects that I don't realise.

Wonderful!!! That's what we are always waitting for! Please don't forget to add a hook for the point systems

Hi Andrew.
Is it still possible to do a mass import into LDM from the server? I cant find the option.

Yes, and there's a new option in 2.1.3.

The traditional csv export/import is still available on admin/import and export

That page also has an xml export option. The script to import xmls is in the extras directory in the zip.

Difference between the two - csv import/export will backup/restore the important data but misses out som eof the more recent entries. csv import will restore categories and links into an empty database and will restore links only into a database in which there already are some entries.

xml export is a complete dump. xml import clears your database before restoring.

I do plan at some stage to extend the xml import to allow partial imports and imports into an existing database, but that will have to wait.

I don't want to push it...when do you expect it to have it ready for download? :nervous:

Hi AndrewD,

I have a question for you. I am planning to use your mod to make a collection of mailing addresses (clinics and hospitals actually) but the problem is that I either have to upload a file OR enter a URL to save the description (which will have the address) otherwise I get a error message.

Is there a way to make the mod accept description without uploading or adding a URL?
Please also not that I am also using your mod as a file and links database on the same website.

I would appreciate if you can reply and help me with this issue.

regards,

Vik

Andrew, I'm back again. We are having this with a couple members.. not sure if it's the manager or the person.

Quote:

First, thank you for bringing back the freebies. I love this site and it's the first place I go every morning.

When I go the download section (like the Daily Download), I see the different downloads available. I click the link above the picture (and also tried clicking the picture), and it brings me to an accept/decline screen. I click accept and it brings up my download manager. However, the file it brings up is always called the same thing, "local link.htm".

When I go to my folders to see if it downloaded, all it contains is the blue "e" Internet Explorer symbol, and when I hit that it just brings me back to your download section.

I use MSN with Windows Explorer. This is the first time I've had trouble with your site.

It doesn't matter which zip file I try to download, I always get the same thing, a file called Local_links.htm.
Any ideas?

Langly 03-04-2006 12:26 AM

patch-showthread
patch-forumhome

Will either of these make a post in a certain forum?

Langly 03-04-2006 02:53 AM

How can I change the button "Add Link" to "Upload a File"?

AndrewD answered this a couple of pages back ..

"allow_null_links box on the admin settings page"

If you make it "1" this will allow you to make an entry without the need for a URL :)

I take it you're talking about the Add Link menu item?

If so you need to go to your .. admincp -> Languages & Phrases -> Search in Phrases -> Search for Text "Add Link"

This will bring up that phrase with which you can replace with whatever wording you like :)

You can then do the same thing with any other phrase you need to change.

Langly 03-04-2006 04:23 AM

Not sure if this is a bug or just my settings but it seems that if someone changes the site style then the LDM style still stays the same. How do I make it so that the style in LDM changes with the rest of the site?

Yes, it's probably the download manager. Some of these seem to insist on creating the filename from the hyperlink that was originally clicked, rather than obeying the header information that is being sent to them. Maybe there is a way round it - can you let me know which download manager?

No, neither of these creates posts. They just manipulate the display data before it gets sent to the user's browser

Not sure I understand. By default LDM displays use the same style as the user sees, e.g. on the VB home page. If the admin changes the default site style, then both will change for users who have not made their own choice. If the user has made a choice (e.g by selecting a style a some stage), then I think that that choice is held in a cookie.

There are choices inside LDM admin/settings and category/edit/display settings that allow you override the style selection and to use a different default style for LDM and for individual categories than for the rest of the board.

Let me know if I'm missing something

Langly 03-04-2006 04:47 AM

Good lord. I had it set to a certain site style in the settings and not set to default. Sorry for the waste of time on that one.

I don't understand - I've just tried this and it works fine for me.

Which version of LDM are you running?

Slave 03-04-2006 07:16 PM

Just found a small bug in 2.1.0 AndrewD .. worth checking in 2.1.3

When looking at who's online while someone is looking at LDM it comes up as "Viewing Links and Downloads Manager" even though I've changed the name to just "Links" .. so it's not picking up the name change.

Also .. I've noticed that when they are looking at a cat, the cat's name shows up as the link. That's fine. But when they are looking at the Home Cat it comes up as "Home Page" .. this is a little confusing, perhaps have the name of the LDM instead as per the settings?

kompakt 03-04-2006 09:29 PM

Oh there is a bug I've discoverd as well. This applies to 2.1.2, I havent tested on 2.1.3. But when you create a new category, it doesn not assign it the new icon you give it. You'll have to edit the category after creating it to assign an icon.

Langly 03-04-2006 09:59 PM

I thought 2.1.3b2 uploads retained the orginal file name instead of changing the upload name to a string of numbers.

I'm assuming you are asking for the version we are using? We are using 2.1.3. If this isn't what you were asking for, let me know please :)

No, I'm not asking that.

Your users may be using download managers on their PCs, e.g. products like FlashGet, which take over control of the download from their browser. That's what I was asking. If they are just using a browser, then which one? Can we pin down the problem.

Thanks - this is probably still the case and I need to fix it. I am still working on consistent phrasing for the 'add ins'

They should. When an uploaded file is stored on your server, its name is just a sequence of digits- this is to stop people bypassing LDM - but the filename is restored when it is downloaded. Is this not working for you?

Langly 03-05-2006 04:13 AM

Ahh, ok. I was just looking at the file directories.

I am not able to reproduce this with 2.1.3. Have you set a value for cat_icon_new as well as cat_icon?

AndrewD 03-05-2006 10:54 AM

Unfortunately the new beta killed Internet Explorer so has been withdrawn. As usual it works fine with Firefox and Opera and passes the validation tests at w3.org, so I wonder who is to blame...

I have uploaded a new beta into the first post. This fixes (I hope) the reported bugs in the first beta, and also adds some requested new features.

Please note - if you have already installed the first beta of 2.1.3, you will have to 'uninstall' before installing, to force the VBulletin product installer to run the installation code. This does not harm your database.

Ratings/comments
The main linkbit now offers a popup showing most recent comments and ratings

Keywords
When a category listing includes entries with associated keywords, a 'filter by keyword' dropdown is available

Administration
Settings added for open local/remote links in new or current window

Bugs fixed
- Category menu displays correctly with forum permissions in add link, etc
- vbAdvanced ldm_tot module fixed when *days_seen_on_portal*=0
- admin buttons work correctly with Internet Explorer
- forumhome plugin uses $stylevar settings for buttons directory
- forum title_clean set during create linked forum
- file sizes for remote urls provided curl library is available, means that http 206 handling works for these files
- 'Show Random Links' displays correct number of entries when keywords enabled
- 'Who's Online' text uses LDM database name if set

As always, backup before upgrading and let me know how it goes.

Slave 03-05-2006 03:36 PM

Still getting that ..

forumid=-999 (Forum does not exist)

.. error when a cat doesn't have a parent forum on the Category Structure admin page .. by design or bug?

So which version of php are you on now?

Slave 03-05-2006 03:47 PM

hmm .. this is with 2.1.3b3

As you know AndrewD I'm still on an old version of PHP but I still like to install the latest version on my test forum .. so not sure if this is just my server playing up or a bug ..

After I add a comment/rating to a link when I go to the cat page showing that link I get an IE error ..

Code:

Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://test.test.com/local_links.php?catid=34

Operation aborted

I'll PM you the URL so you can have a look ..
