When using the RSS feed built in VB, and when pulling a feed from certain youtube members - you get a page that has the preview image, a description of the video and then a link to the video page.

For some reason the AME is not taking the link to the video and embedding it.

The VB RSS feed uses this code in the back end to link to the video: url={feed:link}]More.../url That results in a link that the AME does not recognize.

Is there anyway to make the AME software embed the url={feed:link}]More.../url link that the VB RSS feed post???

The "[" were removed so the code would be visible.

Right click on the link below, not the video itself. There no reason you shouldn't be able to download it from here, unless there's somekind of block on your end.

Already confirmed to work on all versions of 3.7.

I've noticed, that feed posting doesn't automatically parse URLs either. I have to wrap [url] tags around the {feed:link} to make that work. I'm willing to bet, though, that you can get around that by putting [AME] tags around url you want converted. I haven't tried that yet, though.

Any support for 3.7.2?

TheInsaneManiac, it's working great! Seems without any errors... ;)

It's already compatable with 3.7.1, so I don't think .2 would be that much different.

Michael Morris 06-27-2008 11:15 PM

Got it working. One new feature suggestion - when a media player is embedded to a post flag the thread and put a little TV shaped icon in the threadbit next to the attachments icon.

DoB Rhapsody 06-28-2008 01:10 AM

We really need support for vbadvance's news module. I never use it when announcing something with a video because it doesn't look good on my hopepage. I end up creating a bbcode just for the video. Ridiculous.

Just curious... What's the problem in vba? It worked when I tried it.

That because you don't have a high enough character limit before the [Read More] link truncates the post. Set the character limit higher, enough so that the vBa module doesn't truncate the Embed Code.

d-wiz 06-28-2008 05:45 AM

Once I got it up on and running I couldn't post new topics or replies on my page?

Yes but I don't want the entire post to display. Not every announcement will have a video in it. Another thing is that it needs to be posted below the avatar so that it won't get cut off.

You don't neccessarily have to set it that high. I just suggested it as an option, because there won't be anymore support for this modification, as the developer had to move on to other things.

Dannyloski 06-29-2008 05:03 AM

DoB Rhapsody, your only hope on a fix is to do what Digital Jedi suggested, if you dont do that then sorry but nothing else that can be done ... Just set the Character Limit a little bit more, because take into consideration that this is changing a URL into an entire Embed Code + Contained HTML, so you need to add the appropriate length ... There is no other way around it.

BBF 06-29-2008 11:31 AM

when i'm embedding a video i get this databse error:

Quote:

Database error in vBulletin 3.7.2:

Invalid SQL:
UPDATE post SET pagetext ='[ame]http://youtube.com/watch?v=9i-7AxJb4OE[/ame]\n\n test message', ame_flag=1 WHERE postid=171179;
how to fix it?

jim6763nva 06-29-2008 06:55 PM

Any idea how I can get this metacafe URL to work with this addon?

http://www.metacafe.com/w/178495

All I get is a link.

EDIT: NEVER MIND - I haven't eaten in a while so I was getting a little spacey.. I got it working. Was looking at the wrong URL

tt_chatter 07-01-2008 02:17 AM

Is there something similar to this or possibly this that would work with the videos from MSNBC or CBS news feeds?

Digital Jedi 07-01-2008 02:20 AM

The definition for MSNBC videos is available in the Add-On for this mod. However CBS is not available because CBS doesn't provide embed capability. This is also true for most of the major news media outlets.

d-wiz 07-01-2008 07:29 AM

Still no luck getting this to work. When turned on replies go to blank page?

Do you have an old video mod installed still, like passiveVid?

dklassen 07-01-2008 11:06 PM

I've tried AME and PassiveVid. Both produce white pages after the reply button is hit.

What's strange is that on my site, same version vb (3.7.2) it works perfect. On our other site which is virtually identical it produces these white pages when either of these mods are used.

Any thoughts on how to fix or what's happening?

There was some issues some folks had with passiveVid being still installed, or some tables still being in the database that they didn't know where still in there. I can't quite remember what the issue was, but I'd suggest trying a search of this thread and the various XML threads for this mod to see if the solution is in there somewhere.

tt_chatter 07-02-2008 05:50 AM

Just my two cents guys. For the people who wanted to use the RSS feeds and embed videos from them this is what I did. I used the RSS feed from MSNBC and ran the feed to my forum. I edited the template to say the fallowing;

[AME] {feed:link} [AME]

I clicked preview and all the video feeds came threw instead of just showing the link. Now I dont recommend hitting preview with all those feeds because my computer nearly blew up trying to embed all those videos at the same time in the preview. I haven’t seen the videos go threw to the forum yet. No more feeds to add right now, but im pretty confident it should work.

Digital Jedi 07-02-2008 07:08 AM

Yup, that's what I suggested earlier. It should work, because I had the same problem with [url] codes going though and the same fix worked.

Thank you. I ran through a lot of threads, a few people mentioned similiar problems but still no solution. It might be out there somewhere, just don't have the time right now.

Sounds like you're righ, though

tt_chatter 07-02-2008 03:20 PM

This was the result of the AME tags with the rss feed.

http://www.the-amt.com/upload/showthread.php?t=259

There is one little problem. I get these lil url tags showing up around the video. Not really a problem just anoying. I did disable the option that says Convert HTML to BB Code but i dont think that has to do with any thing.

I was going to leave the description their so i can use that as an archive for CMS on my home page.

Digital Jedi 07-02-2008 03:36 PM

Tell me something. Is the code written just like you show in the post above?

[AME] {feed:link} [AME]

With the spaces on either side of {feed:link}? If that's the case, I notice the same spaces in the source code. Try removing those spaces on the next attempt and see if the URL tags fail to parse again.

[AME]{feed:link}[AME]

Ok ill give it a try. Also my tags actualy are "[AME] {feed:link} [/AME]" kind of important lol.

tt_chatter 07-02-2008 04:03 PM

Your a genious. Works perfectly. Only wish I could get more news sites .

Thanks for the help.

Digital Jedi 07-02-2008 04:20 PM

One of these days they'll catch on that MSNBC has the lead in that department. Until then, I'll keep an eye on them. I work with CNN, MSNBC, CBS and Fixed---er Fox News online videos playing in the background most days. So if they change it, I'll catch it.

You should release it on the 3.7 mod board so that people know that this works on 3.7 and so that people know this mod exists who use 3.7. Most 3.7 users will only search the 3.7 mod board for addons.
