:-( . I'm going to try best-board.com and see if they have any answers to this issue. I've done all on my board that i can think of to try and figure this out on my own. I'll be back to share an answer with you guwebby, should I receive one.

cheers,
ltaylor

Taipa 05-10-2006 11:50 PM

Is there a way to disable the privacy feature?

I appreciate it, please do let me know if theres a way to solve this issue.

ltaylor 05-11-2006 12:10 AM

No answer as of yet.
I'm wondering tho, if i should uninstall this version (has to be a bug)and install this version https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=100385 until this version comes out of its beta stage. ?

anyone reading this...if you have any feedback to the above solution, please let me know.

bchertov 05-11-2006 02:54 AM

I'm looking for a blogging sub-system for VB. Is vbJournal one? Are there others?

Is there a difference between an article system and a blogging system?

Thanks!
Barry

Taipa 05-11-2006 04:47 AM

Is there something else I must do besides adjust the Journal Permissions in the Usergroup Manager to allow journal posts to be edited and deleted?

I have journal permissions for my usergroup set to "yes", including editing entries and deleting entries, but when I go to my journal I do not have the option to either edit nor delete my own entries.
Everything else seems to work fine.

guwebby 05-11-2006 07:30 PM

Does is stay on yes? I have the problem it wont save the permission

ltaylor 05-12-2006 10:28 AM

Sadly, I'm choosing to uninstall this Hack. It's unfortunate as I'd really like to get this up and running. When someone has a solution for the "Permissions" Problem - Administrator Permissions staying on the "Yes" option, please post here and let me know. I'll watch for updates. :-(

guwebby 05-13-2006 08:28 AM

Its a shame when a hack looses support. I really wanted to use it, and the worst part it doesnt give a error, if it did that I could atleast fix it myself.

Shaliza 05-13-2006 09:57 AM

Too bad.

Anyone know of another one?

bchertov 05-13-2006 12:47 PM

I tried to send this private message to Andreas (author of this hack) but got an error that his mailbox was full. So maybe he is offline for a while...

Hi Andreas,

What's happening with vbJournal? Are you still supporting it? There are folks having trouble with it that are posting on your hack thread and not getting any response.

I wanted to install this, but I can't if there is no support. I was looking for a blog/article system where the main author's posts stay on the primary thread and discussion happens on another thread (or some how separate but associated.)

veedee 05-15-2006 10:35 AM

Hi there, would anyone be kind enough to post an example of this? I have a board with over 27k users and I think this might be the answer to many 'asks' for blogging capability.

Or if this isn't the hack to use, could anyone suggest a decent PHP script?

Thanks.

CocteauBoy 05-15-2006 07:07 PM

Hi everyone!

Thanks for this AMAZING, wonderful hack, first of all!

Next, I just did an upgrade from 1.0.1 to 1.0.2 and NOT until after doing so did I see the fine print in the history list to instruct me to run a QUERY before uploading the xml. I don't know if that is what caused my problem, but...

Everything seems to be fine, but I did lose ALL "last" and "latest" entries from my journals and there seems to be no tracking of the new entries.

Is there a quick and easy fix for this?

Thank you so much! Otherwise, the installation is running perfectly!

troy

CocteauBoy 05-16-2006 04:29 AM

Since this is not easy to find in the search, and it is not in the documentation, someone should clearly state that an unistall of the product.xml does destroy and delete all of your journals.

My users are devestated.

I had uninstalled and reinstalled the product because it is not installing/upgrading properly. The LAST ENTRY, LATEST ENTRY, and LATEST JOURNALS are not pulling into the journal index page. I lost everything.

I don't know what to do, but do not make the mistake of uninstalling the product if you do not want to lose your journals.

troy

jndeakin 05-16-2006 08:37 AM

Others have got caught by that too Troy, but all Andrew has said is that an uninstall can be expected to remove all traces of the program. I disagree strongly! An unistall should only remove tables if they're empty!
Have you a recent backup? It should be possible to recover the journal tables and merge them back into your database.

GamerJunk.net 05-17-2006 03:05 PM

Is there a way that I can display the last 5 journal entries into the forum index? Similiar to what VBAdvanced does with galleries?

Battle_Ring 05-17-2006 03:12 PM

Help my comments do not show up

jndeakin 05-17-2006 09:01 PM

Smilies don't seem to show up in the journals. Has anyone else run into this?

Has anyone gotten this to work with PHP5 and SQL 4.1+?

Littlebit 05-18-2006 03:18 PM

Hi and thanks for sharing this great hack with us :)
I noticed there is a "new journal" button and was wondering is the ability for certain users to have more then one journal going to be an option in the future, or is it an option already added in the latest build and I just haven't figured out how to make it go?

Hey folks,

I am very interested in using this hack, however I am very concerned that it doesn't appear as if it is being supported and there are a number of people who are having problems:disappointed: (as well as people who are not having problems:D ).

So I'd love to hear any experiences you've had with it, along with how it has been received on your board (especially any comments that have not already been expressed on this thread.)

Also can someone post a link to their board where it has been successfully implemented and is getting used well?

Feel free to PM me.

Thanks!
Barry

Taipa 05-19-2006 05:54 AM

I'm having a problem where the BBCode simply doesn't work.

I've got the "Parse BB Code" option set to "Yes" (and it's staying at Yes, so it's not that weird un-selecting problem some people are having).
But BB Code simply doesn't work, it just displays the BBCode tags instead of actually making things italic, or bold, or linked or whatever.

I haven't the faintest idea what could fix that...

Well, now I do.

If I turn on Smilies, the BBCode works. If I turn the Smilies off, the BBCode is also turned off.

Is this a bug, or just a weird feature? The two don't seem related to me.

Hey, I had this installed for a short period, but while my site is still small, i found noone took an interest to it. I also had a problem with the whole buddies thing that comes with it. I could only set it so everyone could see what someone had posted. or noone could.
I have now uninstalled it, waiting for my forum to grow and for a better one to be released. It also doesnt look terribly attractive.

so there...

We use it..

100,000 Users and it runs fine

had to work out some kinks in it..

Can you share the fixes with us, or least give us an idea off how much work it took to get it working?

BTW, interesting site!

jndeakin 05-21-2006 10:00 AM

Looking at fixes. We found that owners looking at their own journal was effecting the view count, so we edited journal.php

We found the line:
$db->query_write("UPDATE " . TABLE_PREFIX . "journals SET journalviews=journalviews+1 WHERE journal_id='".intval($j)."'");

and added this line:
if ($vbulletin->userinfo['userid']!=$journalinfo['journalist_id'])
just before it:

Can users style their own blog yet?

Tulsa 05-21-2006 11:13 PM

My site uses it on an infrequent basis. A handful of users really like it. For the most part it runs pretty good.

Now today I kicked my system up to php5 and this hack puked all over itself.

Im interested in you're version, especially if it solves the problem of not allowing Admins to set the permissions in the ACP.

Also I checked out the profiles on your site, and I was wanting the same thing done to the one Im on, which bussy list do you use to display the pictures on the profile and what hack does the comments?

We wrote out own buddy list (relational) and not storing it in one field anymore.

and we wrote our own comment system,

what is showing on the profile is just a simple script to grab the top 8 (the user sets them)

Similarly, To get my smilies to workI had to enable [img] !

ditto to your question!

guwebby 05-22-2006 06:20 PM

ooo, are you able to share the buddy list and comments cause I could really use those and a journal that works too :)

veedee 05-22-2006 07:05 PM

Can anyone post a link to an example on their site please?

Thanks.

Oblivion Knight 05-23-2006 10:14 PM

I'll try and take a look at some of the compatability issues with 3.5.4 late tomorrow..

No promises though.
