I'm using 3.5.2 and I've downloaded the 3.5.x gold version and noticed in earlier posts that modifications were needed to some templates, to make it 3.5.1 compliant, is this still needed in the latest version??

And with the nav bar alteration, forgive me for being a numpty but this is my first attempt at forums and html so I'm a bit slow lol but is it only the instances within the nav bar section that needed altering , I'm assuming I just change the bit within the < and > you quoted.

Great template and thank for doing it.

make sure you upload the included "red2black" folder into your forum root, not into "forumroot/images".

Can Anyone help me with this one, its my first attempt at adding a style and I could really do with a step by step walk through??

Couldn't find the v3.5.1 release thread mentioned earlier in this thread either :(

Oh, its a neat style for Ducati motorbike forums, remove the gradients and it gives it a proper Ducati feel.

Hey Chef, I need to make some custom buttons for the style. Would you be willing to share what font you used, and what effects? I'd be happy to post the buttons that I create, as others may find them useful. The ones I need to create (so far) to go with the Geek Article System:

New Tutorial

I'm using Photoshop.

Cheers,
Michael

There should be a PSD folder in the ZIP file that has all of the buttons and other images with effects and stuff in tact. There are also the fonts that I used in that PSD folder as well. Install the fonts in the PSD directory and open up button_large.psd

volarium 12-22-2005 01:34 PM

Thanks Chef, you thought of everything! Installed the fonts and opened it in Photoshop.

Here's a Comment button if anyone needs one.

This may be somewhat out of scope, but I thought I'd ask.

I installed red2black and my users love it, but it doesn't look good with MKPortal.

http://www.mustangmods.com/data/29/red2black.jpg

I need to get the color scheme to look good on the portal pages, like it looks on the forum pages.

Where do I start with this? I've started a similar thread on the mkportal forums.

You will have to mess around with the CSS classes.
I am not familiar with that addon but you should try changing around the alt1, alt2, etc classes in some of the templates to try to get the desired effects.

Any recommendations on an easy-to-understand tutorial for CSS stuff? I'm not a coder, and I've never messed w/ CSS at all.

I appreciate the advice. :)

RMS-Chef,

This is going to sound awful - however i'd like to be able to change the Red bars to blue - in this case is it a simple case of changing the hex's in the respective temlates on this, or is it a little more involved?? (before i go breaking it??!!)

Thanks for what is a lovely style!! :)

There are some color codes for the solid colors but you would also have to overwrite or change the couple gradient images as well.

The best thing to do would be to import the style again and name it something different and play around with it. That way you can mess around with it but not hurt the original working one.

I am no coder either, not even remotely.
What I would do is copy/paste the template code you are looking to alter into a WYSIWYG HTML editor. Then you should get a basic layout to look at and see where you might change a few things.

Like Dreamweaver [shameless namedrop].

Very good style Chef. It's very widely used, and is simple but desirable. Well done.

That what I use, yes. With DW you have to make sure you turn off a couple of the auto correct unclosed tags and such or it will FUBAR your templates.

...and thanks.

I originally created this style on a test board that had vBA installed and didn't have any issues that I can remember.

No issues here.

Any plans for a 3.5.3 version?

To be honest, not really. I purposely did not check the "Supported" box on this because I recently started a new job and have several other projects currently ongoing. I do have a list of the templates that are NOT default. The style should work fine with v3.5.3 but you will have to make any updates manually to the small group of templates that are listed to be 100% compliant.

WhatChaMissin 02-15-2006 12:41 AM

Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a try, its a really nice style and worth the effort!

Mikecp421 02-21-2006 03:35 AM

That's wierd. It looks like something may have happened with some additional CSS code being removed or something. Later tonight I will install this on my test forum and take a look.

Mikecp421 02-24-2006 12:18 PM

Thanks man I appreciate it, I didn't edit anything related just so you know. I did do some mods.

Mikecp421 02-26-2006 02:11 PM

Chef, you come up with anything? I mean just tell me where that code is and I will play with it, thanks

S1OPP 03-01-2006 12:01 PM

My site forums are installed in /forums, I have a gallery installed in /gallery and VBAdvanced CMPS in the root.

I've been using this style for a while now and I've very happy with it.

After sorting out the header replacements so that the links in the 'quick links' drop down work I have the following problem.

In the 'Quick Links' drop down the 'Buddy List' option only works if I'm currently viewing the forum.

If I'm viewing CMPS or Gallery I hust get a 404 error.

If I switch back to the default style it works fine.

Can anybody help with this?

Hi there,

How can I "erase" the white bar behind the logo?

Tnx!

S1OPP 03-03-2006 06:52 AM

I've managed to fix my problem with the "Buddy List" in the quick links drop down.

It might be obvious to the hardened coders, but I'm a complete newbie so it might not be the best way to fix the problem.

If anybody else has the same problem this is what I did.

I noticed that the drop down calls misc.php, in either my Vbadvanced page or the Gallery page misc.php couldn't be found becuase it in /forum

Adding misc.php to the header replacement didn't work for this (it works for the restof the options in the drop down)

So I edited the header template, search for 'Buddy List', and modified the path there to /forum/misc.php

Job done.

Crest, the white bar behind the logo can be changed by editting one of the CSS options, sorry not sure which one. I know this because I have changed a lot of them to make a 'Red 2 Grey' style as some of my older members have trouble reading light text on black backgrounds. HTH

mrderanged 03-03-2006 05:50 PM

Hey All,

Had a question about this style that I've been wondering for a while and now my users are asking as well. Is there a way to have links underlined and if so, what would I need to do for them to be there?

Alot of my users, as well as me, love this style, but don't want to have to move their mouse all over the place to figure out what the links are.....

Thanks for any replies in advance,

Scott

Hi all, I am trying to add a new button in the navbar and insert this bit of code from the V3 arcade hack.
<!-- v3 Arcade -->
<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="arcade.php$session[sessionurl_q]">Arcade</a></td>
<!-- /v3 Arcade -->
I managed to find out where to add it on the 3.0.7 version but i am at a loss where to find it with this version. Normally i try and look for pointers ie the href for usercp and new posts etc but i cant find them atall
please help.

Roms 03-04-2006 06:24 PM

In the Style Manager, Click on Edit Templates, then Navigation / Breadcrumb Templates. Then click navbar. Place your code after the </td> for one of the main links ie: Member List

leftie 03-04-2006 07:02 PM

I can't find any of these options in navbar, that is why i am stumped, i only have this code.

return true;
}
else
{
ht[0].style.filter = "";
return false;
}
}

Never mind, i found it in the header templates although it does not show when you search templates. What gave me the the clue was a view source and i could then see where it was placed.
I hope this helps for others.
