After this alter your preferred settings in the vBulletin Oprions [Miserable Users] settings.
I have searched through the vBulletin Oprions over and over and Miserable Users is not there. I also made my test user miserable and it had no effect.
The options for the Miserable Users in the Usergroup manager are the same as all the other usergroups, ie - no new options pretaining to this mod.

My srever is Win2003 could that be a problem?

Here is the product info I entered

Product ID miserable_users
Title Miserable Users
Version 2.01
Description annoy anyone you don't want visiting your forum

I think this highlights the problem. You do not create the product yourself. You simply import the product using the xml file.

Delete the product you have created, download the XML file to your PC, then in the add/import product screen (at the top) click on the "Browse" button and browse to the xml file on your pc, then click on the "import" button.

OttawaGolf 10-01-2005 05:33 PM

Silly me. I did upload the file, then completed the form and pushed the button at the bottom.

Guess you can tell this is my first plugin. LOL Thanks Paul. Looks good now. :D

Acidstrike 10-01-2005 07:36 PM

not bad. I'm going to use this on a few people that have been trying to come back to my forum. :)

OttawaGolf 10-01-2005 07:47 PM

Perfect for the most persistant of trolls. I can't wait to use it!

rblaze 10-01-2005 10:28 PM

haha you have no idea how happy I am to have this hack ;D

Realm of Horror Comics 10-02-2005 12:37 AM

Best. hack. ever.

Thanx:squareeyed: :squareeyed:

mtrac 10-02-2005 12:44 PM

Thank you for porting this to 3.5. This is my second favorite hack of all time, behind Ted S's, but if I could only have one on my board it would be this one. I increased the pain to 3.0 level. :p

Will the following work for IP addresses and user agents?

PHP Code:

if (is_member_of($vbulletin->userinfo$vbulletin->options['muparm9'])||$_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']=='192.168.0.1'||$_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']=='Some anonymizer'

Thanks.

Someone has a locked-in mod which does this. You'll need to search for it though, as I'm not sure what the title is for it.

Bubble #5 10-02-2005 04:44 PM

I looked all around and then finally found it for you. Enjoy :)

When made a member of the miserable users group, a member suffers ;

1. Slow response (time delay) on every page (20 to 60 seconds default).

2. A chance they will get the "server busy" message (50% by default).

3. A chance that no search facilities will be available (75% by default).

4. A chance they will get redirected to another preset page (25% & homepage by default).

5. A chance they will simply get a blank page (25% by default).

6. Post flood limit increased by a defined factor (10 times by default).
Um... we just installed this on 3.5 gold and nothing seems to be happening :( This is a brand new 3.5 install, with no other hacks. Using default vB skin. It installed fine, and we tried both primary and secondary user groups, even raised the settings (above) to 75%, but nothing is happening to the user.

Can someone please clue us in on what might be wrong?

Paul M 10-02-2005 07:19 PM

If it's a brand new install, have you actually turned the plugin system on ?

Do you mean in ACP>Options>Plugin/Hook System>Enable Plugin/Hook System? It is set to ?yes?. I could PM you the URL with a pre-setup ?miserable user? name/password if you want to test it for yourself?

Below is a screenshot of how the "test" miserable user is presently set up. We also tried setting the Primary usergroup as miserable user with no effect either.

Paul M 10-02-2005 10:35 PM

It would be more useful to pm me an admin user so I can see what's wrong. :)

Bubble #5 10-02-2005 11:42 PM

I think I traced it down to a bad Usergroup ID number. It was set at 14 by default, and it should have been 9. Seems to be working now so we'll make a nice "Server Load Exceeded" page for them to be redirected to. We'll even put a donation button on it for them :nervous: We used to dread trolls, now we use them as toys :)

Thanks Paul for all the hard work that you've put into this.

Mike Searson 10-03-2005 05:35 AM

Any way to make this a "random event"? Maybe give the miserable user the illusion that the board is ok for a few minutes...then bog him down again for 10-20 minutes?

You don't, you save it on your local pc and import it using the product manager.

please help

Paul M 10-05-2005 04:20 AM

You need to learn a bit of patience, I do not camp in these forums reading posts every five minutes, there is no need to post a question and then "bump" it 7 minutes later, thats just going to annoy me.

Download the XML file to your PC, then in the ACP, go to the Plugins / Product Manager and in the add/import product screen (at the top) click on the "Browse" button and browse to the xml file on your pc, then click on the "import" button.

Paul M 10-05-2005 04:32 AM

Are you actually running vb 3.5.0 ?

slvr ralliart 10-05-2005 04:34 AM

3.0.8

Paul M 10-05-2005 04:37 AM

This hack is for vB 3.5.0, as it says at the top. It cannot be used in any 3.0.x version.

slvr ralliart 10-05-2005 04:39 AM

anything like this for 3.0.8

Paul M 10-05-2005 04:42 AM

There is a wonderful facility here called ..... search.

Use it and you will find the other versions. :)

R1D1 10-06-2005 11:46 AM

cooooool! :) no more to say...

glorify 10-06-2005 01:04 PM

Loaded it yesterday morning. By the end of the night I got an email from the guy I used it on asking me if he had been banned. If he logs out everything is fine.

I told him to check his ISP

Makes no sense, but who cares :D

Paul M 10-06-2005 05:52 PM

LOL, nice one. :)

gonon 10-08-2005 10:45 AM

Has to be the most user-friendly/easy customizable script I've come across. thanks :)

Zombie-F 10-08-2005 03:41 PM

I have an annoying little kid that just doesn't "get it" as far as posting etiquette and following my short list of rules goes... this is the perfect solution to this little annoyance of a person. He's annoyed me and my members for a while now with his pointless posting, now it's my turn to annoy him!

Vtec44 10-08-2005 04:00 PM

hahahahaha ... between this and Tachy Goes to Coventry, I think this is a lot more fun :D

I'm having similar problems. I upgraded from 3.0.8 to 3.5, turned on plugins, installed the plugin' as a product, and created my usergroup, but I get notta. It just acts like a regular user group.

You don't mention setting the group in the settings, have you ?
