If you read the previous page, Amy says that the links are in the format:

So for example, if you install this product on the site listed in your profile, the link will be:

http://www.samsterteenz.com/Community/index.php?page=2

Hi,

How would I remove my shoutbox and forum announcement just from that page please?? Also, only the name of the category is on it, not all of the subforums, even though when I put it on the normal forumhome, I see all of the subforums! :s

Many Thanks:)

aceofspades 05-20-2006 09:17 PM

Is there anyway to change it so its /info.html instead of page2.html ?

Gehanna 05-26-2006 12:47 PM

Hello,

I just installed this and I moved the gallery portion of the forum to page 2. I noticed that there is a little dot just above the forum on that page. I only see it when viewing the forums with Firefox. I can live with it if I have to but if there is a way to remove it can you please tell me how?

If you use Firefox, here is a quick link to show what I mean:

http://www.currentday.com/forums/index.php?page=2

Sincerely,
Gehanna

amykhar 05-26-2006 01:07 PM

This mod makes no template changes. Sorry, I'm not going to be of much help for you.

Gehanna 05-26-2006 01:12 PM

Oh well, a little dot never killed anyone.... on second thought, a little dot of cancer certainly can but then again, we're not talking about people so it's all good :D

Enough with the silliness from me. In all honesty, I appreciate this hack and I thank you for it.

Sincerely,
Gehanna

Hi Amy - is there any way to create a conditional based on the forum page number?

Desainer 05-28-2006 07:47 PM

Hey I´ve got a question... I´m still using vbb 3.0. Is it also possible to use this mod on my board?

amykhar 05-29-2006 11:16 PM

Check the value of the $page variable.

No

Desainer 06-01-2006 06:59 PM

Sorry to bother again, but I pluged it in a 3.5.4 but it doesn´t seem to work right. The board places every new category on a new page and I´m not able to decide on what page it should be placed in my admincp... Did I do something wrong? I first made the change in my template and then pluged the file in with "manage Products".

amykhar 06-01-2006 07:14 PM

you need to go into your forum manager and edit the forums to indicate what page they should be on.

I tried that, but it doesn't ask for a page like in your attachment.

amykhar 06-01-2006 07:42 PM

Sounds like you didn't upload the bitfield xml file correctly then.

Desainer 06-01-2006 07:56 PM

Oke thanks, then I'll try it a diffent way ;)

Desainer 06-01-2006 08:26 PM

I tried it a different way but it still won´t work. Do I have to do something special after I add the plugin to my board? btw, it is listed on my Installed Products list...

amykhar 06-01-2006 08:32 PM

oops. This one doesn't have a bitfield xml file. That's what I get for trying to work from memory. If the product imported successfully, you should be able to open any forum in the forum manager and find a box to put in page. Without seeing your forum manager, I don't know if it's there or not.

I know the mod works in 3.5.4 because I still use it.

Desainer 06-01-2006 08:45 PM

Aaah I found it! I used version 1.0.. Now I tried version 1.5 and it works fine! Thanks for the support anyways... You're great!

Hornstar 06-02-2006 08:08 AM

Hi, Amy, This is what I have been looking for.

However, I am willing to donate a little bit of money to you, if you could offer some of your time to finish doing a few requests.

Request 1:
Instead of /index.php?page=2 I would like it to be /whatEverIchoose.html

Request 2:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....6&postcount=71 If this could be done.

Request 3:
Some people were discussing about having each page a style or something. If that could be done.

Question:
Will this work on VB 3.6 or will a new port need to be done (They changed something so not sure if it will be compatible), as I will be upgrading to vb 3.6 most likely in 1 month if thats when it comes out of beta.

I am a big fan of your work, and I can understand that apart from doing this, you would have a busy life.

Thus why I feel a donation may go a big way.

Of course if you would like to do this for free, that would be great (after moving to a dedicated server its put on keeping my site up as its costing soooo much.)

you may pm me, or talk here, I dont mind. But I feel this hack is one of a kind, and really makes the forum less clattered and more organised and user friendly.

So thanks.

amykhar 06-02-2006 09:59 AM

I'm sorry, but I just can commit to it right now.

Coast to Coast 06-02-2006 07:06 PM

I just added it to "The-week.net" and have 3 pages up, working with perfection!

Hornstar 06-05-2006 03:25 AM

I know in my last post it did sound like a lot lol, but im sure when you get time, some of those features would be nice :)

However, if you get time to do 1 or 2 things then these are the important ones.

1. By default make a forum 1 as it is currently 0 so when creating new forums you dont need to change this and forget like i did and wonder what is going on lol.

2. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....6&postcount=71 This feature would be wonderful, It would save lots of time, and make it more easy to see what is going on. Defently a must :)

Thanks

amykhar 06-05-2006 08:35 AM

If it's a must, I'm sure somebody will figure it out and post the code ;) Right now for me the only must is getting a medical billing app out the door ;D

Okay, Well found out that I already had a solution to get the http://www.gamerzneeds.net/forums/index.php?page=2 name changed. It now works as http://www.gamerzneeds.net/forums/index2.html ^^

amykhar 06-07-2006 07:24 PM

Still seems to be working in 3.6

tyfoon 06-21-2006 06:16 PM

Now I am confused : I was asking information on the vb sales support team because I want to setup a site with this plugin ( with another domainname linked to the second page) and they where telling me at first that I need 2 licenses to do this , even when I didn't use a new domainname but used the /index.php?page=2 as url they still try to tell that I need 2 license for this can anybody help me.

amykhar 06-21-2006 06:32 PM

you do need two licenses if you are using it to make the two domains look different

tyfoon 06-21-2006 06:42 PM

even when you don't use seperated domainnames and use another url ( index.php and index.php?page=2) they tell me that I need 2 licenses also ..

amykhar 06-21-2006 06:54 PM

That can't be true because they've built in somewhat similar functionality into the software. You can display individiual categories on the forumhome page using the built in stuff, but can't specifiy collections of categories or forums

tyfoon 06-21-2006 07:08 PM

I here post the support answer from vbulletin.com sales

Quote:

The best I can tell is that this page:

http://xxxx/forum/index.php?page=2

...contains content that is not available via the forum home page:

http://xxxx/forum/index.php

Therefore if I understand you corrrectly, this requires separate licenses:

"vBulletin license grants you the right to run one instance (a single installation) of the Software on one web server and one web site for each license purchased. Each license may power one instance of the Software on one domain. For each installed instance of the Software, a separate license is required. Modifications to the software or database to circumvent the one-license-one-board rule are prohibited."

they answered my

But it's not available as a standard part of vB, at least not what I can find. That is simply a link you've added manually.

If it is available via the standard vB style and templates, please explain how to access it.

Because I did not agreed with the given answer they passed it thru to one of the devellopers to check it again...

(nice try to sell more licenses)

amykhar 06-21-2006 07:27 PM

The funny thing is a vb developer did a similar mod to this one :D His doesn't allow you to select which forums you want on which page. It does it based on a count. I think Steve may have misunderstood your question because you originally asked about using different domains.

tyfoon 06-22-2006 02:57 PM

No I send him a reply on the ticket and he said even if I us only one domainname (and the ?page=2)behind the index.php I need TWO licenses.

amykhar 06-22-2006 03:58 PM

Upon discussion with Jelsoft staff, the use of this hack COULD violate your license - depending on how you use it. If you're just splitting up a long list of forums into multiple pages, that's one thing. If you are tying to make each page look like a different board - that's not allowed.

If you question your own specific use of the mod, it's best to ask Jelsoft directly regarding your planned implementation.

aceofspades 06-28-2006 11:08 PM

Can you please tell me if i am able to rename the page numbers into names that are more relevant. I.e If i have my outdated forums on page two, can i now re-name page2.html as old.html?

Thank you

amykhar 06-29-2006 01:46 AM

Yes, you could do it using mod rewrite. can't tell you how specifically, but you could do it.

utw-Mephisto 07-01-2006 11:39 PM

Amy, works perfectly on 3.6 Beta3 ...

You could even use a different language and style like

forum.php?langid=2?page=2?styleid=45

but again, it might violate licenses .. but it is perfect. I was looking for a solution running two instances of vbulletin using the same database and now I found this one .. once again - thanks :)

Unfortunately in my experience, using the styleid in the link sets the user's style for the entire board to that style.
On my site (a multi-game site) the idea was one style per game and a general "main" style for the front page. Users were not allowed to change their styles, and the styleid links didn't even work for them.
When I allowed them to make the changes, they ended up with the front-end being themed the same way as the last game section they had looked at :(

It does seem though as if allowing a style-per-page would break the TOS/EULA which is a pretty big drawback from Jelsoft's end IMO.
As far as I'm concerned if I pay for the software I should be able to mould it to fit my site in such a way. It's not as if I'm using different databases, just different styles.

utw-Mephisto 07-02-2006 08:45 AM

So why not using the option Style by forum them ?
In the forum iteself you can force a specific style .. once they going back, they have their old style (assuming you set overwrite to no)

Lost_Prophet 07-03-2006 04:30 PM

That's what I do. But the idea was for each page (containing two different catagories) to have its own theme.

tyfoon 07-03-2006 05:52 PM

At last the final answer regarding multiple license and this plugin

Quote:

One of the Devs took a quick look at that plugin and said as long as it's possible to get back and forth via the forum jump then this should fit into the license agreement.
