Hello. I would like to know whether it is possible to create separates News Sections on the main page. Let us say I want to create 2 Sections, Section 1 and Section 2.

What I would like to do is this:

Create two Forums in my Message Board so that I separate the News that go into Section 1 and Section 2.

Have a sort of header for each section (which I already did successfully).

Put the Section 1 News and News Archive below the Section 1 Header and the Section 2 News and News Archive below the Section 2 Header.

Is such a setup possible? If yes, how can I go around creating it?

You did not install it correctly.

Reupload the default files and try again.

wacnstac 06-29-2004 03:21 AM

I currently use vbportal. What would the easiest way to upgrade to vbAdvanced be? Should I upgrade both vb to vb3 and Photopost to the lastest versions first and then attempt to install vbadvanced?

Deimos 06-29-2004 04:36 AM

Tigga, quick question for you if I may

If I install this, can I say....add a module to the left hand side, with a list of links, which when clicked, would open a page where the news is normally displayed? (did that make sense?)
So, if I wanted to add a guide or something, people can click the link and it'd open in the middle area, rather than a seperate page
I've been trying to do this with the VBAdvanced system, but i'm a beginner to put it mildly

58sniper 06-29-2004 11:11 AM

Well, it would open a new page, but that new page would have all of the vBA modules. The vBA Control Panel allows you to create additional pages within the same template.

Hope that makes sense.

diabme69 06-29-2004 02:36 PM

Installed, working great, I only have one problem, i have attempted to fix it, but all the ideas i can enact are not the way id like it.

THe problem is this: if you have avatars enabled, and your post has a quote towards the beginning, the quote does not wrap around the avatar, causing it to look really bad :/

I have debated moving the avatar to the title of the news post, but then it messes up that part, i believe you can edit the quote CSS to wrap, but i am not quite sure how that would work.

Any ideas i would appreciate it :)

Deimos 06-29-2004 04:17 PM

Yes it does Sniper, thanks :)

Re: Post #84

Would anyone who knows the answer to my question care to take a shot at it. I think I know the answer and what I'd like is for someone who knows to confirm or point out what it is I would have misunderstood. I am to replace eveything in those 28 templates with the content of the templates.txt file?

diabme69 07-03-2004 03:06 PM

Did vb302 break the portal? im getting a front page with NO news on it.

Silverdawn222 07-03-2004 03:58 PM

Did you try re-installing the templates?

Did you redo the file edits and reinstall the templats as per the instructions

Silverdawn222 07-03-2004 05:09 PM

Also, I read somewhere today that someone has succesfully upgraded to 3.0.2. without any problems with this particular mod. :)

y2krazy 07-05-2004 05:32 PM

I integrated a 4images module to this CMPS homepage. Take a look here:

http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1629

-y2k-

Tim Wheatley 07-05-2004 07:04 PM

I had a blank page after the upgrade from 3.0.2 to 3.0.3. I reuploaded the vbacmps_install.php to /forum/admincp, then ran the file.

Simply selected 'install templates' (useful for upgrade)

And now it works fine. :)

PranK 07-06-2004 09:09 AM

Any ideas why this loads so slowly on my server compared to the forums and other portals I have tried?

Anything I can do to speed it up?

Tigga 07-06-2004 02:12 PM

RonH. - There are 4 templates referenced in the temlates.txt file. Replace those 4 templates with the content under the template name for each.

PranK - Seems to load at about the same speed as your forum's home for me. Do you have the 'Quick Moderation' module enabled? If so, that could slow it down on your account since it has to check a couple of tables. That would only affect mods and admins though since they're the only ones that can see the module. ;)

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I apparently was misinterpreting  the instructions. I'm going to try and install this file/hack this weekend.

Sirius Black 07-07-2004 08:51 PM

I have a problem with my install - It won't show the calendar for some reason. I changed the 4 templates like I was supposed to and the module is active but for some reason the thing won't show up. Any ideas whats wrong ?

/me clicks install.

gfxhavenowner 07-07-2004 08:55 PM

I'm having a problem logging in from the main page, i.e. it refreshes and does nothing. Any help?

Aslo, the navbar links all point to the the main site, instead of the forums folder. DO I have to update them myself?

Did you set the calendar ID in the AdminCP>vBa CMPS>Default Settings>Calendar ID?

Doh - I completely overlooked that portion of it. :o It works fine now - Thanks for the help.

I still need help, especially since this is a pretty big problem.

Tigga 07-08-2004 10:05 PM

Are you able to log in from the navbar on that page? Is it just the 'Welcome Block' module, or both that module and the navbar?

gfxhavenowner 07-08-2004 11:37 PM

Both.

Tigga 07-10-2004 06:13 PM

Make sure your 'Path to Save Cookies' option in your main vBulletin options section is set to '/'. If it is, try changing your 'Cookie Domain' to '.yoursite.com'.

Mike Gaidin 07-10-2004 10:34 PM

I'm having the same problem. I can't login from the login at the top of the cmps page or the one in the block.

My cookie domain is set to forums.mysite.com rather than .mysite.com since my forums are in a subdomain rather then a sub forum.

Tigga 07-10-2004 10:36 PM

You need to change that to be blank, or '.yoursite.com'.

Mike Gaidin 07-10-2004 10:40 PM

It looks like it's working now. Thanks Tigga. :)

Cold Steel 07-11-2004 12:39 AM

/me installs.

Nice hack.

tdc 07-11-2004 12:42 AM

First, let me say this is an amazing hack! Thank you!! *clicks install*

However, I've run into a snag. For some reason, the images path is not correct even though I changed them as instructed in the readme file and made sure they were correct upon installation of the portal.

http://www.bimmerfesteast.com/cmps_index.php

Why is it foregoing the 'forum' folder and trying to find the images directly in the 'images' folder?

Flare 07-13-2004 08:57 PM

I seem to be having a problem with vBAdvance that I can't figure out how to solve easily...

The quote tag [_quote_] will screw up the news display tables. If I enable vbcode in news display, all content that is suppose to be in the right hand column is within the table borders of the news column (center column).

If someone wants to look a what I'm talking about, I will leave vbcode turned on for a short duration so that you can see the problem. Although, I'll have to turn it off again so the main page display doesn't get screwed up.

You can check out http://www.starpyre.com to see the problem. However, I'm waiting for domain propegation for the actual domain, so most images and links will probably not work.

ShutDown23 07-14-2004 01:15 PM

I upgraded to 3.0.3 a while ago and now I cannt get this to work... :ermm:
I get:

Warning: chdir(): No such file or directory (errno 2) in /home/afceyri/public_html/index.php on line 19

Warning: main(): Unable to access ./global.php in /home/afceyri/public_html/index.php on line 25

Warning: main(./global.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/afceyri/public_html/index.php on line 25

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required './global.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/afceyri/public_html/index.php on line 25

Thanks

Typhon 07-14-2004 02:02 PM

We've recently upgraded from 3.0.0 to 3.0.3 and now the News Archive on the front page does not work. I've reinstalled the tempaltes. I've actually uninstalled everything and reinstalled it as well . Nothing. Any help would be appreciated since our front page is currently semi-blank. Thanks!

ShutDown23 07-14-2004 04:48 PM

Is the vbadvance site down or is it me?

contramontanum 07-14-2004 04:49 PM

vBadvanced.com appears to be down, so I'm trying here...

Edit: problem fixed... mea culpa.

Ted S 07-14-2004 08:53 PM

Is there any way to use this hack or something like it to show the last 10 articles (from vbarticles hack) on the main CMPS homepage in the center instead of on the sidebar? I want my portal to be more like a magazine and less like a forum with articles front and center, can it be done?
