for the width etc, it sure is a question of monitors, as designers are supposed to deal with all the users, not the monitor of the designer... 80% of the people on the internet are at a 800x600 of resolution, not 1024+ ... most users with higher resolutions are gamers, designers, graphists... and that's logical... internet is more a place of documentation, and if you read a load of text in 1024, you have to make the text bigger to read it...

the count of about 680 millions of surfers using 800x600 is based on the last "i2" statistic about all the european/american users of internet... it is not counting the asians, so imagine... ;)

even your browsers open their default window at 800x600... mozilla, IE, Safari... with you have no prefs, first window to open is at 760pixels wide...

Couldn't have said it any better, when i design something, i make sure it fits every browser, and every resolution.

Well done to the vB.org team for being bold enough to go for such a big change, and it is a big change. When you run a successful site, it's got to be a concern doing something so dramatic.

:nervous:

they left the old style incase this all went wrong and everyone hated it :)

This design *does* fit all resolutions. The only reason why the footer looks messed up on smaller resolutions is that vBulletin.org's lengthy copyright text is wrapping. Now, to solve this, I can either re-do the footer code and make the subtle clouds on the left side smaller, or move a portion of the copyright to the bottom (where the darker blue is).

For those of you complaining that this style is only template changes -- please take a look at the contest rules. This entry was indeed part of a contest: it wasn't an in-house style. Because it was, there was no way for me to modify any portion of the code. The contest required that I deliver a style XML file -- not hacked PHP files.

And about this skin looking like 'Imagize'. Why didn't anybody say it looked like the default vBulletin skin? Because that's exactly the amount of similiarity that's between the two. Seriously. Go take a look for yourself.

You know...this design is starting to grow on me.

i tihnk they were talking about the template code not the actual source.

0ptima 07-18-2004 03:36 PM

I like it much better than the dark blue style.

Xenon 07-18-2004 05:17 PM

Our Copyright text is too long?

*gg* nice one ^^

@Whoeverit was: Styleid = 0 means that the user is using the default style.

A general thing: We can understand, that not everyone is pleased with the style, especially those who like the dark ones more.
But for those, wh say that there were not enough changes to the original vb style.
1. We still have a few things from DirectPixel which we just reverted for now, but may add later
2. Other than DB, is this a fresh and plain style, not that much overhead on graphics or whatever. We are not a Designersite here, which must have a style with lots of images and whatever, that wouldn't fit in vb.org.

And at the one who asked about a second place: unfortunatelly, there weren't enough participants, and with Chen no longer in the team, we have had two reasons, to just choose one winner (as we posted since a long time already.)

Well, let me know, and I can send you a new footer template that accomodates for your extra-long copyright text. ^^

Xenon 07-18-2004 05:53 PM

hmm, adding an overflow: scroll; ^^

I've emailed you the updated footer template. :)

Xenon 07-18-2004 06:43 PM

hmm, i tried it, but it did look broken there as well..

i went back to the old again so.

tgillespie 07-19-2004 03:19 AM

I knew it was DirectPixel even before reading the author's name :squareeyed: I think the clouds gave it away. As for the style, I like it. It is definately a change from the Dark Blue, but I didn't prefer Dark Blue in the first place.

My one comment would be: It looks a little too soft. This is a hacking site and needs a ruff tuff hacking look. Not some fairy clouds :) haha.

why all kids think that coders have to be heavy metal and punk guys ?!

do you know i'm a family guy, with two kids and an appartment with toys everywhere ?! do you think i'm dark turned ?!

hmm.. i like the colors and the header, but the header needs more navigation buttonts like the old dark skin had cause its more easier to see and find then the regular default navigation vb has on top.

DrkFusion 07-21-2004 12:18 AM

Awesome Style

Tony G 07-24-2004 11:06 AM

The style is very nice, kind of reminds me of the old vB3 Beta vBulletinTemplates style, but the images are many times better.

Good work on the style, and congratulations to the winner. ^_^

dutchbb 07-25-2004 12:08 PM

very nice job man Kudos

Dan 07-25-2004 12:53 PM

I think its too light in colour and it hurts my eyes.

Xenon 07-25-2004 08:27 PM

*gg*

I tend to say that to some humans as well, but you have to be very careful then ^^

RDX1 07-29-2004 01:51 PM

Xeonon, what was that MD5 that you posted?
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....&postcount=112

PassCracking marked it as "Not Found"

That hash isn't AlexYang, Alex, Alex Yang, DirectPixel, Direct Pixel

Why? How do you think I feel? I don't care about the style, but I wanted to see if Passcracking could work it's magic and I waited a few weeks, then I get nothing returned.

Xenon, here's some Blowfish for you. It's been encoded twice with Blowfish (Different Keys) and converted to MD5

You're passcracker is obviously not very good then ;) Run this:

PHP Code:

<?php
    $strings
= array('AlexYang''Alex''Alex Yang''DirectPixel''Direct Pixel');

    foreach(
$strings AS $value)
    {
        if(
md5($value) == 'f440c1ec0d4548566c6e725930fb56ae')
        {
            echo
'Match found with: ' $value;
        }
    }
?>

I don't need to run the script, I had yet to run "Direct Pixel' You're the one that suggested it, it was good enough to be slashdotted at any rate. ;)

Xenon 07-29-2004 03:38 PM

Well, it was Direct Pixel, it's not my fault if the cracker is crap ^^

Aye, as a lot of people said it reminds them of quite a few styles:

http://www.directpixel.com/port/full/webmasterlingo.jpg / Imagsize / etc

...considering that I designed all of those as well, and considering that the WebmasterLingo.com site was the default Imagize skin with a new header & footer...

:)

...tsk tsk... hotlinkin' to my images :banana:

BTW: I thought the winner also got a custom user icon? :ninja:

Xenon 07-31-2004 11:04 AM

User icon?

hmm, where did i say so?

You can always come with a suggestion to me, i'm not that creative ;)

tygersclaw 08-02-2004 08:37 AM

Very appealing design to the eye. Kudos to the designers for sure!!!

Chanrith 08-02-2004 08:34 PM

It's alright.

Catch-22|BL 08-11-2004 01:44 AM

I think it is a nice job. Pleasant change and makes the site look good.

Nothing will make everyone happy, and people who get very upset should go try to make a design that is better! ;)
