Would you like me to send you the revisions I've already made? It might save you some time and effort.

Mone' 06-07-2004 11:57 PM

Installing it now on localhost :)

Cheers

undrgrndgam3r 06-08-2004 01:12 AM

i followed the instructions

Action-N 06-08-2004 01:20 AM

Can I have the Articles sort alphabeticaly instead of as summitted. Looking through the code, but wanted to get a post started here.

Thanks for this hack, I know I as well as others really needed it.

zetetic 06-08-2004 01:22 AM

"Location" in Who's online shows:

Unknown Location
/forum/article.php?

Lurk 06-08-2004 01:54 AM

you got a button set with the looks of the 'new article' button?

would be awsome :)

cogimo 06-08-2004 02:05 AM

HI

The install was pretty easy however I can getting this error when I click on the link to go to the articles page. I am logging in as a admin and the usergroup is set up

you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation

trackpads 06-08-2004 02:08 AM

John,

I found a small error. Everything is running fine except that the articles are not counting properly. I installed and followed the instructions to a T and had no errors.

I created a top level cat then a subcat and then another sub cat then posted an article. The article shows up fine but the homepage still says 0 articles.

Everything else works like a charm, thanks again for all the work!

I got that error, then finally finished reading the directions. After you follow through with the install instructions you'll be all set. I pasted the part of the install you need to do, they are a must.

My installed went thru perfectly, but I have a problem with the templates! I can't see any of the image buttons for posting new articles! And all the catagories are allowing articles to be posted too...

Also, I'd love to be able to move posts from one of the forums in to the articles section, that'd actually be really handy. :)

Kwak 06-08-2004 02:34 AM

Poor John, he introduces an awesome hack and within minutes, he is bombed with questions after questions. :D
Will install this this weekend. Sweet job John.

cogimo 06-08-2004 02:41 AM

Thanks

It worked perfect

Nice.

Can we use the "Article" hack outside of the /forum/ directory?
EXAMPLE: www.vbulletin.org/forum/articles.php? --> www.vbulletin.org/articles.php?

Just upgraded by overwriting all the files, now I just get a blank white page when clicking the link on the navbar from anywhere.

Hummm...I reuploaded article.php 3 times, each time smartFTP asked me to confirm overwrite which I did, then checked the page and it was white...finally after double checking everything else, I went to upload old article.php and it said the one on the server was 0 bytes..so I went back and reuploaded the new article.php for a fourth time and this time it worked!!

Damn! I have to ask myself in a sarcastic tone: "Use a pc much pal?" :)

John, I'd like to add your a copyright footer for you with your icon like the arcade...can you tell me where to place the code?

Edit 2: I got it..for those with the arcade, go into your articles template and find $articlecontent, right below it paste:
Code:

<span class="smallfont"><br><center><a href="http://www.eovieinteractive.com" target="_blank"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_arcade]/eovieinteractive.gif" border=0 alt="Eovie Interactive"></a></center></br></span>

Dan 06-08-2004 02:22 PM

Nice job. I know I'll use it.

Pitman 06-08-2004 03:39 PM

Is there anyway to remove an article from being featured without deleting the article?

Pitman 06-08-2004 04:03 PM

Also is there anyway to set permissions on each category, or will that be considered for a feature in later releases?

Tim Wheatley 06-08-2004 06:28 PM

Thanks man! :)

Here are a few suggestions for later releases... I'm sure everyone can find a good use for all of them:
  1. Printable Version for Articles
  2. Send Article to Friend
  3. New Articles Shown in Bold
  4. Permissions per Category
  5. Ability to Specify Moderation per Usergroup
  6. Article Moderators per Category
  7. Ability to Move Articles to Different Categories
  8. Latest X Articles on Forum Home
  9. Featured Article on Forum Home
  10. Integrated with vBulletin Search
  11. Listing in Who's Online
    • Viewing Article
    • Article Title (with link to specific article)

Randall Rath 06-08-2004 09:13 PM

Howdy John, Great work on the update but there is still one small SQL problem in the forum's article.php file,
Code:

$comment = $DB_site->query_first("SELECT articlepost.*, article.categoryid FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "articlepost
should be
Code:

$comment = $DB_site->query_first("SELECT articlepost.*, article.categoryid FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "articlepost As articlepost
That's line 660 in my editor.

By the way, this is a great system, I'm popping over to your site to drop you a *little* something.

insanctus 06-08-2004 09:36 PM
