Hehe.. I set everyone's postcount to 0 in the postbit, gave them a funny avatar, sig, and usertitle. Then I used the old {username} hack (very popular on Zed's forum ) which makes everyone who views the thread see their own name.

This is the thread I posted:

Subject: "Hey {usernamehackhere}! "

"My logs show that you're the one who accessed the admin control panel and deleted everyone's post count. I don't know how you did it but I've contacted your ISP and reported you. "

Less than 5 minutes after posting it I got several emails and PMs from members telling me that their must be some kind of mistake and that they had nothing to do with it.

Here's a couple of the PMs & emails I got:

What's up on the site?

Who made the post saying I messed with the system? Was it really you? I think it had your name as the thread starter... Anyway, did someone really get into the system? I did notice the post counts are gone... If I did it.. Soeone's just GOTTA tell me how!!! There's a few boards I'd LIKE to do that to! Lemme know what YOU know.
BTW, it says I'm banned for life, but before I even read it, I made another post, so I can only assume that hasn't been the case.
This is the best one.. Its from a member who hasn't posted in years! And he actually blames it on his friend!

Hey, THis is Steve's buddy, Jeromy, up here in CANADA. What's this horsesh*t about me f*cking with some admin features or something?

Sorry, man, you've got the wrong guy - I suggest you provide some logs to prove I did this. Tell ya what, something between you and me.

See, Steve and I are on the same ADSL "Stinger", which is a bandwidth booster, essentially. This also causes us to share the same IP's across a small IP range - I can explain it further if you wish to email me, I work for the said phone/telco company.

Also, Steve is a sh*t disturber, no? And he's likely got some access to admin sh*t being a moderator? Like I said, send me snippets of the logs. This added to the fact I don't have much to do with him anymore makes me suspect him, but hey, all I'm saying is it wasn't f*cking me and I don't like being nailed to the wall publically.

Check your logs, and get back to me, and I will be happy to show you where the mix-up is, and I sure as hell ain't got the ambition to noodle around with "admin" goodies on a board that all I do is lurk at.

Sorry if I come off the @sshole, but finding this post to me on a msgboard I haven't posted at for well over a year (or done anything other than play the games) is kinda a kick in the bag.

Thanks,
Jeromy
I finally sent him a PM to remind him that today is April 1st.. He replied and said "LMAO! You got me! That was good one!".

Its only 6am here.. My PM box is sure to be full by the end of the day. :D

Tony G 04-01-2003 08:03 AM

I missed out this year, was pretty busy the night before and afterwards so I couldn't get time to execute my plans. (Depends on time zone, of course)

Amy :( I tried signing up at your board with my hacker alias and a fake email so people wouldn't go and email me, but it need to be verified. :(
zach. pm me with the alias you used and I'll validate you.

Amy

Erwin 04-01-2003 12:47 PM

Verify this username please amy. :)

[PMed you with the username...]

amykhar 04-01-2003 12:57 PM

Erwin 04-01-2003 01:06 PM

LOL!!! We are creating a bit of havoc... ;)

Erwin 04-01-2003 01:09 PM

I've had to use this:

http://rinkworks.com/dialect/

and choose "Hacker" to try to dumb down my spelling. ;)

Erwin 04-01-2003 01:11 PM

Anyway, enough fun... I'm going to bed now amy... hoped I've helped in your little "prank" like I promised I would. :) Let us know how it goes...

euangel 04-01-2003 02:12 PM

Yesterday, I installed the new "Most Ignored" hack and my users got quite a kick out of it. Today, I changed it to show that whatever user is logged in is the current "Most Ignored" member...

nintendo 04-01-2003 03:27 PM

Where is the {username} hack?!!

Roody 04-01-2003 04:37 PM

Xenon 04-01-2003 04:40 PM

Roody 04-01-2003 04:51 PM

A screenshot of Erwin at work and Filbert1's logo that he made for my hacked site.

All avatars are set to that ghastly skeleton.

I logged in and told the members that I called the web host and they would be able to get our site back; so the members are having fun teasing the hackers now. One member is even translating Shakespeare to hacker-speak :D

Amy

Sweet Cheeks 04-01-2003 07:03 PM

LMAO Amy :p

I did something similar and Im getting my arse reemed for it :(

nintendo 04-01-2003 07:55 PM

<a href="http://www.vgchat.com/" target="_blank">http://www.vgchat.com/</a>

I got the index 'hacked', images of me, you have no idea who posts what, and some messed up sounds!!!

Does any one know where the {username} hack can be found here?!!

Mystic Gohan 04-01-2003 07:56 PM

<a href="http://www.rpgadvance.com" target="_blank">www.rpgadvance.com</a> how about that? It should still be there when you look. Heh had a bit o fun with my members.

Erwin 04-01-2003 07:56 PM

Just looking at the aftermath on the site... do you really think your members are falling for it? On April 1st? LOL! Some seem to be...

Mystic Gohan 04-01-2003 08:19 PM

meh, maybe not but still kinda funny. Heh most of the members on my forum are of the younger age. lets say anywhere from 5th grade to HighSchool. So you never know.

EvilLS1 04-01-2003 08:28 PM

SZ|TalonKarrde 04-01-2003 08:32 PM

Hehehe. This is fun =)

nintendo 04-01-2003 09:54 PM

Thanks. We couldn't find it because it didn't have 'username' or 'member' in the title.

amykhar 04-02-2003 12:19 PM

To everyone who helped, my members thank you :) They had fun with it and tell me I am going to have to work hard to top it next year

Ok, I wanted to bring this thread back up.

What are people planning this year?

I used the text inversion last year and it went over great, so I need another good one this year.

I'm not planning anything...I think it's a stupid tradition.

Dean C 03-05-2004 05:10 PM

Hmm - i'm open for ideas :p

pgowder 03-09-2004 01:34 PM

So who's got some ideas????

You're right ;)

Erwin 03-10-2004 12:22 AM

I want some ideas too. :)

MSX 03-10-2004 12:47 AM

Make index.php (or index.html) in the forums root dir redirect to a new dir like /boards/ and import the forum database to like phpBB or IPB or wBB. Hehe.

I dunno, just an idea :).

twoseven 03-10-2004 02:26 AM

i may have popups on my forum that load copys of the forum on each forum click
not too creative but what do you expect from an overworked admin

Christine 03-12-2004 06:05 PM

I haven't figured out what to do to the board (and as we are upgrading to vB3 and moving to a new server on the 31st, no matter WHAT it is, it will work) but wanted to share what I am doing at work in case anyone wants to try this.

I took the company's website and redid the main index.cfm page as an lndex.cfm (lowercase 'L') and changed all of the wording on it to hip hop (fo' shizzle my nizzle type stuff).

I uploaded it to the root directory, and when the Marketing Manager (and other key peeps) leave on the 31st, the IT director and I am going to go to all of their machines and replace their bookmarks from index.cfm to lndex.cfm so that the next morning, I can make one call asking what is wrong with the site and start a chain reaction of people clicking their favs file to see the issue (these are technically challenged folks, BTW).

No danger of the outside world seeing it this way, but everyone internally will flip.

:)

If I had a forum i'd run this query:
[sql]
UPDATE user SET posts = '0'
[/sql]

And since i'm so evil i'd probably make it a cron job for the rest of the forums life.

i would love that set up now for all of time.

(spam +++++s :rolleyes: )

Reeve of shinra 03-12-2004 09:11 PM

Last year we held a contest where users bidded against other using thier forum points for a trip to visit anyone they wanted to on the board. Naturally we
geared it towards all the cyber couples.

You should have seen it! We had members begging for people to donate thier points to them and the sheer viciousness as they competed for this grand prize. It was extremely funny!! LOL we're so evil =).

Actually I kind of felt bad for the 'winner'.

Oh well. They're okay about it now so its all good.

=)

-----

Edit: the year before was just as funny. We had a couple of things going on and one of them was a rumor we put out saying that the site was bieng bought out by another site that pretty much despised us. I guess it got turned around though cause the members on THAT site thought we were buying THEM! I wish I still had the IRC chat logs with thier members going up to thier administration asking them about it all.

/me chuckles, we've had some great pranks.

Instead of really making posts zero, make a new custom profile field, and make that zero, but add 1 whenever a new post is made by editing functions_newpost.php - everyone would think that their post counts have been reset, but in reality it's still being stored. Safer so you can revert. :)
