As soon as vB integration comes along, I'll be sure to buy it!

Uh? Go and check out the announcements forum and see the thread called: Hivemail 1.2 Released, and read the new features.

FleaBag 04-03-2003 09:59 PM

/me thinks he should have got his license when the sale was on... LOL.

SZ|TalonKarrde 04-04-2003 02:56 AM

I'm not getting it personally ( Broke :(), but myself and SD1 are going to be doing some web design and server admin work a guy who's buying it, so I get to play with it then. =)

Boofo 04-06-2003 05:37 AM

I was going to get hivemail only because it was by Chen, and I trust his coding more than a lot of others. But, to tell you the truth, after what he has allowed to happen to vb.org since he turned it over, I'm not sure the same thing wouldn't happen to hivemail later on down the road. I think I'll pass on hivemail for that reason alone.

AWS 04-08-2003 07:16 PM

Just what has happened here since the regime change?

I admit I don't come here often anymore, but, I haven't noticed much difference now that Xenon and Erwin are running the site.

Hivemail is a commercial product and I don't see him abandoning it.

You shouldn't be saying that, he gave the VB community something good, and people cannot always stick to one thing, because people always have stuff rising up in there lives, you and others should be greatful, that he saw fit to turn this over to you and Xenon, because he thought you guys will make this site prosper and take it to the next level, he has not abandoned anyone, he has just turned the leaf over to someone else. You can't blame him, or even penalize him for that.

Boofo 04-08-2003 10:00 PM

You're mixed up a bit. He didn't turn anything over to me an Xenon. It was Erwin and Xenon. I've seen too many good programs lose the vision they started out with when they get turned over to someone new when that person "cannot always stick to one thing" as you said and they decide to move on to something else. I'm not penalizing anyone for anything. Chen has the right to do whatever he sees fit with the board and HiveMail. But that doesn't mean that I have to buy into it either. ;)

midnightz 04-09-2003 01:33 AM

Anybody here? Finding the Hivemail server down?

yep, chen says new server, maybe the DNS hasn't updated yet, who knows. Would have been nice for them to send an email to their registered users about this.

midnightz 04-09-2003 10:03 PM

Yep, DND can be a pain.

I need to access the user forums there, I dont know the exact install procedure for insalling hivemail with VB integration. I could just Use HORDE or Neo. But I really prefer to give it a swirl since i just ppurchased it.

The VB intergration part of the install directions is a luttel week, for a a noobie like me that is learning real fast....

Somebody help me with the install - best way to do it?

Thanks

midz

I know this is an old thread, but I just found out about this system. Is there any cheaper alternatives? I can see paying maybe $30-$60 but $180 is wayy beyond it's worth to me.

filburt1 09-24-2005 07:49 PM

There are, but I am partial towards mentioning a specific one.

Especially when the upgardes and fixes are so few and far between.

My Modifications; vBMS for vBulletin 3 (webmail for your users)

:speechless:

And I agree about the price issue..their stuff isnt only buggy, but like Booby said, their updates and fixes are few and very far between.

Will you be porting vBMS to 3.5 once it goes "gold"? :)

The Geek 09-25-2005 07:41 AM

My only suggestion = antything but hivemail for a large number of reasons. Though it had massive potential, it was as buggy as Greyhound bus front grill.

That doesn't do much for those of us who have already shelled out the bucks for it, I'm afraid. ;)

I have actually (with the help of a 20-pound lump hammer) managed to beat hivmail into some sort of useful program.

http://www.nzboards.com/nzbmail : A nice 'integrated' login/register page that checks if you are a logged in member (with at least 5 posts..Usergroup perms) of the site before allowing you to sign up.

I even managed to make it take on the css of ONE of my styles...

In saying all that, VBMS was a whole heck of a lot more tightly integrated, at least style-wise, with vB. HM doesn't give a toss about your existing Usergroups by default...they sign up and you have to manually shift them into an HM Usergroup.

It also has a fun little bug whereby if you are using the standard vB "integration" (what a joke that is), your members won't be prompted to enter much of the info...leaving you unable to change their accounts at all, because they have no Secret Question.

You also don't get notified of new users etc.

Would you will willing to pm me the chnages you made to hivemail, sir? It looks a little more promising the way you have it. ;)

Goes of to top up paypal ;)

Hanif 10-25-2005 09:50 PM

Will eagerly look forward to this release filburt let us know when done !!!!

Hanif

filburt1 10-25-2005 10:13 PM

Will do, but it's over 10,000 lines of code and perpetually growing.

filburt1 01-28-2006 07:37 PM

The just-released vB 3.5 version (pre-final) is 15,939 lines. If Zend Studio didn't have code folding, I would have murdered somebody or had the wheel on my mouse combust, whichever came first.

Because, as everybody knows, quantity is more important than...?
