Thank you for the fast response! I feel much better now and will install the mod later today. :)

koneil 06-15-2013 06:53 PM

Sorry guys for the slow development. I've been fighting valley fever, which really sucks, look it up if you don't know anything about it.

The plugin is still active and we are slowing making it better. So please spread the word about our great plugin.

Thanks!

Awesome. Thanks for the reply.

koneil 06-24-2013 02:34 AM

Fassim Alerts are up and running! The Fassim system will send you an email when your forum is under attack with the IP addresses and the number of times they've tried in a 10 minute span. This will allow you to take quick action and block the bots at the firewall, eliminating spam and reducing your server resources.

Thanks for everyones support!

mcbeck101 07-02-2013 12:23 AM

Awesome script. Went from about 40 spam registrations per day to about 1 every 2 or 3 days.

Thank you very much! I'm trying my best to make it the best spam plugin. Please spread the word. :)

Does this ban countries from accessing the site or just registering?

Here's the link to the country codes.

http://fassim.com/country-codes/

And this will only work at the registration process.

moonclamp 09-05-2013 03:38 PM

I noticed the link after I installed, so edited my post. Thanks for that. Considering we're a UK based site and most of our spam is coming from Asia, it makes more sense to block these registrations than waste resources. This may be just what I need and far simpler than glowhost :)

No problem.

Thanks! Lets hope if works out well for you!

moonclamp 09-05-2013 06:45 PM

We've had something like 12 thousand attempted spam signups in the last few months - so everything that does the job is appreciated! :)

When a user is blocked, do they get a specific message or just the standard "we cannot register you right now"?

Yes, they're displayed an error telling why they can't register.. whether it be country block or email match.. etc.

moonclamp 09-06-2013 02:23 PM

Hmmm ... I have set the UK as an allowed country (UK website, hosted in the UK).

Anyway, just had a message from a user with a UK IP address asking why his country has been blocked!

86.157.161.***

moonclamp 09-06-2013 02:27 PM

Scrap that! I think it was 'cos I entered UK instead of GB! :o

koneil 09-06-2013 02:34 PM

Let me know if you have questions.

Nope, it isn't that. I tried to set up a test account and wasn't allowed in

koneil 09-06-2013 03:34 PM

Can you send me a screenshot of your config in vb and your domain name to my email address: kevin @ fassim.com?

moonclamp 09-06-2013 10:47 PM

I've changed the config now so it won't show what you need.

It was set to "allow "with just a small handful of countries given access. I could tell from online.php that it was actually blocking signups, so I assume that the UK/GB IP list is incomplete.

I spent a long time making an opposite list and now have it set to block ... so far, so good! :)

I checked all the IP addresses from my logs that your server tried to lookup they show United Kingdom and a few other countries. The list that we use is a commercial list that is updated constantly so I don't think that is the issue.

If you give me that IP addresses that we're giving you issues, I will run them through and confirm that they are in our system correctly.

I'm glad everything is running good now!

moonclamp 09-07-2013 12:49 AM

86.157.161.164 was the user who couldn't sign up.
87.74.77.232 is my one that failed when I created a test account.

Both are listed at country code = GB

In which case there's possibly a problem with the "allow" option.

I just tried only Allow US on my forum and I could register fine. Then I set it to a different country to test to make sure it wouldn't let me and I couldn't. So I know that part works fine.

moonclamp 09-08-2013 10:34 AM

Well that's clearly not the case here, although it may be a conflict with another plugin.

The solution I have seems to be working though, it just means a bigger list of blocked countries.

I'm happy, so no worries :)

fly 09-15-2013 11:27 AM

Does this block them from even attempting to register, or does the block happen after they actually register?

ozzy47 09-15-2013 11:33 AM

As it states in the first post:

If the new registering member is determined to be a bot or spammer, they will receive a message telling them they are not allowed to register.

Yeah, that doesn't answer my question, which is why I asked it. WHEN are they notified?

ozzy47 09-15-2013 02:07 PM

The way I read it, is if they enter their info, and press submit, it is checked at that point, it don't block them from the site or from trying to register.

koneil 09-15-2013 07:10 PM

1. They hit submit.
2. Their information is checked against our servers and returned with response.
3. They are blocked if determined to be a spammer depending on what settings you have enabled. ( email, ip, proxy...etc. ).

ForceHSS 09-15-2013 07:48 PM

When you ban by country can they even see the forum or does it be blank for them

koneil 09-15-2013 07:54 PM

The banned by country will block users from registering to the forum, it will not block them from viewing.

ForceHSS 09-15-2013 09:05 PM

No way from making it so they don't see the forum
Maybe the next update

Which specific setting blocks disposable emails? That's the one I'm most interested in.
