I have installed this mod, and it works great by what I have seen so far. Although I do have two questions.

1. As stated by another user, I have also lost a link in my nav-bar. I have "Meet-The-Staff" installed and running, but since installing the Shoutbox, that navigation link is no longer showing in the nav-bar. Now, this is only happening on the /forums.php page of the forum where I have the shout box actually showing on the forum. The MTS link is showing on other pages of the forum, for EX: when clicking "New Posts" the MTS link shows up in the nav bar. Please check my forum to confirm this issue.

2. This is not an issue as much as simply wanting to change one thing. I would like to change the default color of the background inside the chat itself so that it is a lighter color, I think this would make the shouts easier to read for those using it.

Thanks for the assistance and I think this is an outstanding mod! GREAT WORK!!!

I'm not quite sure I understand, sorry :(
Who can prune is dependant on the usergroup permissions in the Instance Management (the Edit Permissions link). If you are in a different usergroup from the other admins, that would explain it.

Thanks for your very detailed report :)
I'll check out that mod and see what method it uses to include its navbar link and post back once I have more information :)

Open the template dbtech_vbshout.css and edit the
Code:

.dbtech_vbshout_frame {
area. You should be able to set a background colour there :)

ckelley 05-12-2010 12:49 PM

Thank you! I will work on that!

ckelley 05-12-2010 12:59 PM

Please forgive my inexperience in adding such code as suggested. I know it is probably pretty simple, but in the file you suggested for changing the color, can you tell me the way to code the color change for the background there so I don;t mess it up? I ask because I don;t currently see an option for that there, I have quoted what I have there now if you would not mind showing me what to change to get the color I want. I can find the color code, I just need to know how to implement it into what is already there to avoid mistakes.

Thanks

under
Code:

.dbtech_vbshout_frame {
add for instance
Code:

background-color:#000000;
color:#FFFFFF;

Thatll make the background black, and default font colour white.

Hope that helps :)

ckelley 05-12-2010 01:18 PM

Yes it does, now that I have that basic code I can play with the colors to find what works!

Thanks again for not only the great mod, but the timely responses to the questions and support as well!!!

unp 05-12-2010 01:23 PM

The Shoutbox tab in usercp is empty.
And some smiley codes like ':<' are not working in Shoutbox.

DragonByte Tech 05-12-2010 01:23 PM

@ckelley:
No problem :)
Can you please re-download the zip and re-upload /dbtech/vbshout/includes/libs/shoutbox.php and tell me if this resolves your nav-bar issues?
Thanks for your help in tracking this down :D

@unp:
Yeah, that's because some links had to be removed upon the introduction of the Instances. The Pro version has actions there, though.
As for the smiley issue, check that you have smileys enabled in the shoutbox settings.

unp 05-12-2010 02:03 PM

Is it possible to remove that tab as many members are reporting it as a problem.
Most smilies do work but some codes are not parsing.

Alisa Lindsay 05-12-2010 02:10 PM

This post has been re-posted in the correct version thread HERE; If possible this post can be deleted.

[S]Running 4.0.3 on Test Environment.

First, congratulations on a terrific mod. It's very advanced and I think, should our membership grow as we hope, it will be very advantageous for my RPG Storytelling site's members. Currently, it is installed in a test environment on 4.0.3. Once I work my own bugs out, I will be considering the upgrade to the Pro version as I'm very impressed with this item.

Now...If I may transfer Pro when I move the board live, I would consider upgrading now.

Anyway...I have looked through the posts to see if anyone else has encountered this issue...I seriously think it is a ME error and not a product error, but have been unable to sort the solution.

Notices: The option to set Notices does not appear in the Forum Manager section of my Admin CP or within the table for actually editing each forum either. Am I misreading that this might be a feature for PRO only?

This question might not be one to ask you guys...but...

Can I place the shoutbox so that it appears above my forums sort of like it is another category itself? And can it be displayed everywhere? Often my writers get into a writing tagging war while hanging in the shoutbox and it is easier for them to do this if they only have to go to the top of a page to leave a Tag for the other writer.

Wow...this was lots more question/info than I thought. I appreciate any and all help you can give me.

If you need access to my test site, please let me know. I will have to do that via PM as it is not set-up for public view yet.

Warmest Regards,

Alisa

PS: If you add avatars to this, it will be beyond perfect. My writers are vain little things that love to see their character images everywhere. *winks and grins*[/S]

Disable the UserCP-related plugins in the plugin manager.

Upgrading to Pro is a seamless process; you get instant access after purchasing, and all you do is upload all the files from the zip's /upload/ folder and import the new XML file.
That'll overwrite the Lite product with the Pro version, and from there on out you don't need to come to the org for updates anymore :)

This is in the new "Notifications" menu entry in the vBShout entry in the AdminCP nav :)

To do that, you'd need to customise the HTML of the shoutbox quite a lot.
As such, it's nothing we can help with unless you actually hire us to do so :(

You have full control over where your Shoutbox is located, and on what pages.
Click "Edit" in the Instance Management and you'll see what I mean; you can specify what scripts it shows on, and either let it insert automatically or manually place it by editing templates :)

Hope that answers all your questions :)

Done, and Yes Sir, this fixed that issue, and you are MORE than welcome!

Now I have one other option I would like to change. With the current format the text input area for the user is to the left while the chat "Area" is to the right. What do I need to do to make the text input area fall below the chat "area" instead of beside it?

That's a Pro-only feature, I'm afraid :(
In Pro, you can set a forum default chat location, whereas your users can each pick their own chat input location from all 4 possible locations :)

Fillip

ckelley 05-12-2010 02:18 PM

I gotcha. For now I want to test this for member reaction and input before upgrading to pro, it may or may not be a needed option. I am probably getting ahead of myself there anyway...lol

Alisa Lindsay 05-12-2010 02:46 PM

Fillip,

You answered most of my questions and I answered the rest for myself. I'm going to post in the correct version for other questions I have...

Thanks and Regards,

Alisa

davepurcell 05-12-2010 09:44 PM

Is it possible to move the text box from the side to the bottom?

DragonByte Tech 05-12-2010 09:50 PM

That's a Pro only feature :)

blackberry 05-12-2010 10:23 PM

ahaan nice

what about the resources?

is it for dedicated only or shared/ vps server can use it?

DragonByte Tech 05-12-2010 10:35 PM

It's suitable for all kinds of server types, though some shared hosts have rules against shoutboxes :)

Kayden 05-13-2010 11:26 PM

Two Administrator Permissions have disappeared, and they're for two separate hacks: Log In as User and Flashchat.

When I disable the shoutbox, they appear again.

DragonByte Tech 05-13-2010 11:35 PM

I'll install those mods on my dev board and check it out, thanks for reporting :)

Kayden 05-14-2010 04:17 AM

I'm curious: does the Pro version include auto-pruning shouts after X amount of days?

Hornstar 05-14-2010 06:56 AM

I think part of the who's online hack is disappearing too when the shoutbox is enabled. I noticed it was gone the other day, and I just disabled the shoutbox and now it is showing again in my forum home.

It does indeed :)

Hornstar 05-14-2010 11:08 PM

Don't worry, it is fixed with your latest release.

This is the best Shoutbox by Far. I would recommend anyone to get the Pro version.

Truly awesome stuff!

Kayden 05-15-2010 09:45 PM

What do the latest updates consist of?

DragonByte Tech 05-15-2010 10:24 PM

5.2.0had this in it:
Quote:

Revamped Thread / Reply Notices:
Quote:

Do you have a massive board with 100+ forums? With the revamped New Thread / Reply Notices page, you can edit exactly what forums show what notices in what instance all from one page.

Downloadable Shoutbox Archives: You and your shoutbox admins can download a complete dump of the Shoutbox' archive for all instances. With 3 supported formats (tab-delimited CSV, XML and TXT), there's something for everyone whether your purpose is review or programming.

Easy Shoutbox Notice Editing: You and usergroups with the "Can Set Sticky" permission can now edit the notice by double-clicking the Sticky in the shoutbox. Quickly fix typos or rapidly update with new turn of events, editing it is never more than two clicks away.

Shoutbox Report System: Members can now report offensive shouts by using the shout context menu. When a report has been submitted, those with the "Can Moderate Chat" permission will see how many reports need their attention via a new chat tab in the Shoutbox.

Easy User Infractions: The context menu also adds a quick link to infract users, for those who can access vBulletin's infraction system. This lets you quickly punish members who are overstepping your bounds.

5.2.1 was just various bugfixes like the update email said :)

Hi Replicators, Kinda disappointed to see this kind of thing come from you to be honest.

All of our licenses allow you unlimited usage of the product (As stated on our site)
It's unfortunate that the shoutbox is our of your price range, but to be honest i'm saddened at your poor attitude.

I guess thats the internet for you though.

And yes i talked with some people who were a part of your staff at inferno tech, they all know your a piece of shit. Just hope the people who work with you now find out soon what kind of person you are, or everything will be lost again. I as other people bought scripts from inferno tech, all of a sudden we were ripped off from our purchases, now your gonna try this shit again?

It's funny even after everything that happened, scott still defended you and wouldn't say anything bad about you. Fix your personality man, your a ++++ing cocktard in my books.

Scot and I were the only staff at Inferno Tech, so i'm not sure who else you could have spoken with

Going to point out that everything (site, server etc) was in ZT's name. Things going offline was his doing, and had literally nothing to do with me. Despite this i still offer former Itech customers a discount on similar DBTech products which is pretty much my cut.

Not sure how much more I can do than that to be honest =)

If you're going to continue to post, please keep it civil. No one really wants to read your posts when you go off on a troll, and theres really no need for it. If you want to discuss this more in private, feel free to e-mail/PM me =)

If so, then i greatly apologize to you, but if your the same type of +++++++ you were then, i hope people avoid your new company like the plague.

I'm relatively certain that we never knew each other on much of a personal basis, and any "helpers" we had on Inferno Technologies were just customers who volunteered (Or friends of Scot's). Not really surprising they'd want to lay the blame on me than their friend to be honest.

Still, people will always look for someone to blame, and i was the easy target because i actually stuck around to try to explain things. -shrugs-

Such is life.

Working with him really isn't the end of the world, sure he can be a bit of a pain at times but that's because he wants what's best for the company and I'm lazy :p
I'd be more worried about me wearing him down with my complaining than the other way around xD

And either way, even IF brown stuff made contact with the fan, I'd never take down the site (like ITech was in ZT's name, DBTech is in mine) and I'll keep supporting my stuff.
Mainly because I worry too much about what people think of me, so I'd rather not people spoke of me like they speak of ZT.

So yeah, there you have it :)
Not to mention the fact that I've also lived with the guy for 2-3 months while we were setting DBT up, so I think I know him the tiniest bit better than you xD

vBShout v5.2.2 has been released, which fixes some additional bugs and also adds compatibility with the DBTech's latest mod release, Advanced @User Tagging.

Sixpackmark 05-18-2010 03:24 PM

@DragonByte Tech

just downloaded the file, reading the readme.txt it indicates it require at least vb 4.0.2?

I would just like to confirm if its possible to install on VB 3.x version.

Yeah it works on 3.x (tested on 3.8.2 and 3.8.4), the readme file is for vB4 so that's my bad :(
I'll update it with the next version, thanks for letting me know! :D
