After installing this I'm having a little problem. My users are losing track of who's who since anyone can change their username (yes, there's a 180day limit, but still).

there is a old 3.x mod which showed name changes near who's online.
will you consider this feature?

or better yet, a field where we can provide a thread ID.
whenever (or once a day) someone changes username, there will be an automatic post in that thread about the username change.

Those features are currently outside the scope of the modification, but if we ever turn this into a full-fledged username management mod, then we'll be sure to include them :)

I have installed this on 4.0.3. When I go to change the username, it takes a long time to load, then I get a message:

Then when I press F5, it loads and the name is changed. I have tried several times, this happens every time.

What could be causing this?

Just a heads up too, the Version Check URL is a dead link.

Also it would be nice if the default permissions for Registered Users for the Can View Other's Username History was set to no, where the admin would have to change it to yes if they wanted it.

Haven't set it up yet, but we always send out update mails when stuff change anyway :)

I think this is a matter of preference though, most people seem to prefer it defaulted to yes :)

username change is already a messy process. people keep losing track of who is who.
so by default yes is better :)

Any chance of having the option to let users reuse usernames after a specified time? For example, a user wanting to switch back to their old name.

Currently they'll get this error when trying to do so, "That username is already in use or does not meet the administrator's standards. If you are ______ and you have forgotten your password, click here." even though there is no current user with that name and it doesn't hit any restrictions.

There's a vBulletin Option that locks usernames for 90 days by default when it's been changed. I'm not sure under which heading it is, search for "re-use delay" or something like that.

Ah, its under User Registration Options as "Username Reuse Delay".

According to the help for the option the default is 365 days, I have it set at 180, so the user just needs to wait a few more days :)

Perhaps I'm just missing it but you can tell me where I can find the settings for this in the AdminCP???

This mod uses vBulletin's internal username changing methods, so I don't know if I can fix this.
I'll have to look it over when I get more time :)

i can't seem to see "username history" on a user's profile. all settings are correct, his username has been changed, and the tab "username history" does not show up.

Some mods may be using an incorrect template for their profile tabs and will as such hide tabs from mods like this. Can you try disabling all other modifications?

would love if you could charge users to do name changes

This is very cool i love your work, so much effort put into it :), I'll tag this and install it onto my forum.

vBulletin should already have this integrated in the forums.

Is there are way of searching for a username that has since changed, apart from knowing in advance what their user ID number is?
Example: John changes his name to Jack. How do you find John if you need to contact him and don't know that he has changed his username?

Nope that's not possible, though someone could write a mod that searches vBulletin's Profile History (which this mod utilises) - it's not something we've currently got planned, though.
