There was a minor change in the installation code, nothing to worry about as you already have it installed. :)

Forum Lover 03-13-2010 08:46 PM

Ah!! When I see updated, I thought you included my request. :p

Alien 03-14-2010 02:04 AM

Excellent, thanks for the response!

Is there anyway we can make this so this only works in certain forums?

ofcourse you can this is an option in ACP.
vbulletin setting > doublepost prevention > Forums to be Excluded > then put in the box the id of the forum you does NOT want this mod to work in.

- don't forget to separate the ids by a comma "ex: 43,25,24,... etc"

badawidollah 03-24-2010 01:40 PM

How can I make it please?

I too would very much like this feature. Thanks in advance! :)

Hikikomori 04-07-2010 02:57 AM

I doubt others care, but is there a way to make it so that the next post id for the auto increment doesn't increase when a double post is made? For example, if the post id is currently at 10, and I just made a double post, the next post id will be 13 whereas I would prefer the next post id to be 11. So would it be possible so the post id only increases when a "real" post is made instead of it increasing when the post is added onto a previous post?

Paul M 04-07-2010 01:59 PM

I have no idea what you mean.

For example, in phpmyadmin you have a post table that contains all your posts that were made on your forum. If you have a total of 3 posts in your post table, your newest post would have a post id of 3, and the next post coming up would have a post id of 4 which is based on the auto increment value.

With this module, when you make a double post, it also increases your auto increment value. So if I make a double post, the post id will be 4, but the post after that would be 6 instead of 5.

The table might look like this:
postid | post
1 | first post
2 | second post
3 | third post
4 | fourth post + another post (double post)
6 | fifth post
7... and so on

Without increasing the auto increment value each time a post is added to a previous post:
1 | first post
2 | second post
3 | third post
4 | fourth post + another post (double post)
5 | fifth post
6... and so on

If you manage to do something like a triple, or quad post, it could look even worse:
1 | first post
2 | second post
3 | third post
4 | fourth post + another post + post + post
8 | fifth post
9... and so on

It's really something minor, and I doubt anyone else would care but I think it keeps the table looking more neat. I'm probably extra picky. :p

Paul M 04-07-2010 06:09 PM

Those values are completely irrelevant, they are just internal to vb.

It will always jump one as thats inherrent in the way it works.

Well, not completely irrelevant as it's the post id found for example here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=2017571
I'm a little obsessive about things such as that. :p

But no problem, thanks for the explanation.

Paul M 04-07-2010 09:37 PM

It is irrelevant - vb does not care if they are consecutive or completely random (as long as they are not the same). My forum is running on ids in the 34 million range, due to a crash years ago causing them to jump.

CvP 04-10-2010 07:51 AM

installed on 4.0.2. working perfectly.
thanks :)

Not it isnt, it works fine in all 4.0.x versions.

Delilahs 04-29-2010 04:08 AM

I can confirm it works ok on my forum, and i'm running 4.03

MrD 05-11-2010 08:38 PM

Hi,
in reply with an Attachment, the Post are not merged.
Vb 4.0.3
A reply without an attach are merged.

I think, that a post with a Attachment posted 5 minutes later that the reply without a Attach. are merged.

Maybe an Idea for a Update.
Make a Option, that Admins can select, what is doing if a post have an Attachment.

Btw. in the VB 3 Version of this Addon, the Post with the Attachment are merged :)

Paul M 05-11-2010 11:35 PM

No version released by me has ever merged posts with attachments :)

CvP 05-12-2010 06:03 AM

any plans to make it work for blog comments?

Nope.

pant 05-25-2010 12:29 PM

Right, I'm still a little confused about how this works.

I'll give an example.

USER A posts - This is an example of a double post

He then hits back and posts the same thing again. What actually appears in the merged post?

Does that make sense?

I am not lost (I think).

It will show example B

Thanks, I just want to prevent a double post. On 3.8.x when someone made a double post IE 'the exact same text as the text before' a message would pop up saying this is a duplicate of something you've just posted, you would then get redirected to the original. On vb4 this doesn't seem to be the case, I've logged a ticket about it so I guess it's trouble shooting time.

Funnily enough though the response I got aside from the trouble shooting steps was that theyve noticed a number of people getting the same problem recently so I wonder if it's caused by the 4.0.3 update?

Paul M 05-26-2010 03:29 PM

Double post is not the same as duplicate post, which is what you seem to be referring to.

AlexOC 06-05-2010 11:15 PM

Great mod.

Thanks alot :)

Diablotic 06-17-2010 09:20 PM

I have just recently noticed that when using this mod the joined post is posted twice. Please look at the screen below:

First post was: "Tessssst", and then I posted a second one: "testt77" but for some reason this mod is adding another "testt77" to the original post so I end up with double posting of the second post after merging and it happens every time and to everyone.
I tried reinstalling this mod but it doesn't help. I am running vB4.0.3

Any ideas?

Paul M 06-18-2010 08:48 AM

I would guess you have another mod inteferring, it works fine on my 4.0.3 forum.

Diablotic 06-18-2010 09:20 AM

Yeah it worked fine for me as well before. I have recently installed vBSeo Sitemap generator 2.6 beta 2 and that was it. Where should I look to try to solve this problem?

Paul M 06-18-2010 10:54 PM

Im afraid I have no idea. I dont really see how sitemap could intefere.
