Sador 01-22-2010 03:11 PM

I've been testing this, and everything seems to works like a charm. However, for some reason I can't set anything to default.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

Any idea why? Am I doing something wrong, or?

You cant make a tab default unless it is not limited to a group :)

Sador 01-22-2010 03:43 PM

Ah, didn't read that anywhere. Thanks for the help. :)

Sador 01-22-2010 08:33 PM

I've been thinking about this a bit, and if using this mod works negatively for your SEO rank, wouldn't it be better to enable this only for registered users, so guests can see the whole forum like it is without this mod, while everybody who's logged in can see it with tabs?

That would require some editing or 2 different sets of permissions (guests always seeing full forum and the current permissions for users), but wouldn't it be better that way?

Or doesn't it matter what way guests (and bots) see the forum?

That is something that is currently being looked into...

Not yet. This is designed to break out forumhome which is driven off Categories. I am working on something that will be a little different that will allow individual forums to be placed within the tabs. It's a ways out tho..

ps2wiz 01-23-2010 09:38 PM

I wish someone would answer my question.

Hey there, first I'd like to say thank you, this is a pretty sweet mod!

BUT... I can't use it currently.

I installed and, edited the templates, all that was fine.

However, the problem I found is that it seems to only work if the category is 1 level deep. Basically, sub-categories don't seem to work. The majority of my forums are categories in categories and none of those I set actually worked.

Anything that was a root level category worked fine however.

I had to uninstall for now as none of my forums would show, but I'd love to use the mod. Please let me know if you are interested in having me test something for you, etc. Hopefully you can tweak it to work. =)

Thanks again!

Hey mate,
I asked this on your 3.8 version and never got it working but was hoping you could help me - I am looking at installing this however would like to have like my announcement category appear on the site at all times so it goes kinda like:

Announcement Category - always showing

Tabbed Forum Home TABS - for visitors to tab through

Admin Category - always showing for admins

Are you able to provide me with the code or tell me what to do to get it set up like this? (Remember I am not a coding expert just a newbie)

Hi,
to answer the question myself:
no, it will not remember the tab. Meanwhile I found out that ajax-history can be done. Here`s an example with jquery tabs:
http://flowplayer.org/tools/demos/ta...x-history.html
select a tab, click on one of the links in the right nav, click the browsers back button and your tab will still be selected.

If the 'tab-remembering' would work, I'd definately install this mod!
Hopefully this will be added later this year. :)

Thanks and keep up the good work!

so you tried those secondary Cat ID's and they didn't work? I'd have to set up a test forum just like yours in order to see what the deal is.

zbosskiller 01-24-2010 07:36 PM

Anyway of applying code to show a 'New' image within the tab when a new post is posted?

Anyone know how to do this?

SpaceStar 01-24-2010 07:57 PM

I like it. Will definately install it when the final production forum is installed. Right now I am testing... good work.

kingMOB 01-24-2010 08:13 PM

Hi bobster65, thanks for the mod.

Now, is there a way to use it inside the CMS? Let's say I want to open some sections and/or categories using the same method as your mod. Could I just, for example, edit the vbcms_content_section_page template and insert the tabs there with it referring to sections?

Yeah, exactly.

Basically you'd need to set it up something like this

Code:

Cat 1
  |- Forum 1
  |- Forum 2

  |-Cat 2
        |- Forum 3
        |- Forum 4
  |-Cat 3
        |- Forum 5
        |- Forum 6

If you select Cat 1, Forum 1 and 2 will appear.

If you select Cat2 or Cat 3, you get nothing.

I think I will hold off for a more search engine friendly tab forum home script.

I had this tagged for a while in hopes that things would change a little.

While this mod works great, I dis-approve of the SEO unfriendliness. Some of us work hard to achieve good seo rankings. I would also like the site to look almost 100% the same between guest and members.

Don't get me wrong here this is a great mod, it is just not for me.

Google is not the only search engine. I plan to mimic the one vBulletin uses for my site.

Can you explain a little more? I've got a few idea's in mind for Content Modules that pull data from the CMS. haven't really "dug" into the CMS yet, but should be easy to pull article and comment data.

btw, anyone can write content modules for this, they don't need my permission. Modules can be written in xml, php or html..

I'll be adding a couple updated/new "blog" modules this weekend.

The way, I plan to use this, is to install this Mod and arrange the Tabs.
Then I suppress the Tab-Iamges and add Links in the vB Tab Bar with this syntax.
At the Last, I give vBSEO CRR's that rewrite the Tab-Links into nice URL's.
So the robots cann access the Pages seperately and can indem them with a nice and speaking URL.

You can't, this only works with forum categories at the moment.

This is designed to breakout FORUMHOME which is broke out by Categories.

If you want a Tab (or multiple tabs) to display Threads from one of more specific forums , then you can use the Recent Threads Module(s) which I will be releasing soon.

You can do pretty much anything you want with the MODULES portion of this modification.

That is one of many modules under development. Blogs, Articles, Links, Albums, Social Groups etc.. I plan on making my own generic versions and hopefully others will realize the ability of MODULES and release their own custom version to the community.

Can you add a tab under a tab

Like a tab and the forums which is inside that tab and a tab under those forums like a seperate category tab

How can i do that?
