Just installed this, let's see if it now works.

Does the Forum Admin get notification of an attempted registration by a bot?

ragtek 06-13-2009 12:51 PM

You can see it on the botscout page if you have a api key

GamerPerfection 06-13-2009 12:58 PM

Ok thanks, got my API Key now. So now i'll just sit back and see what happens. :)

ragtek 06-13-2009 01:14 PM

and you have to set up the api key in your vb acp, then you can see if its working

Hey ragtek,

Im a bit confused.

Find the following Text in Template register Which file do i need to change? If lookd for the code
<input type="hidden" name="url" value="$url" />
but its used nm more then one file so i dont really know which one i have to us.

ragtek 08-01-2009 03:47 PM

You have to edit the register Template not the file!

eatonsprings 10-15-2009 02:01 PM

Thanks for a nice mod.
Installed and seems to be working. But help?
I think I'm supposed to upload the language file in the dontupload folder?
And tell it to overwrite/ignore versions? Even though it's in the dont folder? My documentation said nothing about a langauage file- and now my acp stuff about it is in German.
Also, I'm missing something. I can't find where to go to look up my stats. help?

Installed this today = Thanks for the share ragtek ;)

Jacquii.

what if theres over 400 bots trying to register in one day? the site that checks for bots only does 300 a day..

ragtek 12-19-2009 08:04 PM

Good Question;)

I think because botscout will not check after 300, you'll get a false answer and the users would not be possible to complete the registration.

It would be possible to contact botscout to got a "commercial account" (don't know how they exactly call it)

Canron 12-31-2009 03:33 PM

Do I only put the api key in via admincp or should I add it to the product-ragtek_botscout.xml also?

Although it appears to work, I'm not getting the emails from botscout when a user is refused.

I was getting the emails from botscout when I used it an a manual patch in vbulletin.

Canron 12-31-2009 03:55 PM

Ahhh, I'll answer my own question...

the BotScout.php I used before was configarable for this so thats where I was getting my emails from (I forgot I did this)...

Code:

// send email notices when a bot is stopped?
// use '1' to send, '0' to skip.
$send_alerts = '1';

// if sending alerts, send them to what email address?
$toText = "me@domain.com";

How about adding this feature to your plugin? That would be a cool addon.

Marked as installed, seems to work well!

ragtek 02-07-2010 06:16 PM

hi
what exacty do you mean?

Canron 02-09-2010 05:42 PM

OK

I tried installing botscout manually before I saw this plugin, adding botscout manually gave the option for auto emails to tell me a bot had been refused.

But I found botscout manual addon for me broke new user signups and they didn't get email confimation as a new user, so I deleted the manual addon.

This was BEFORE I tried the ragtek plugin.......

I now use the botscout ragtek plugin, and it works great, I don't have new user sign up problems at all now.

But, it would be cool if I got auto emails telling me the plugin refused bots trying to sign up?

Can this be done ragteck?

Danke
Canron

Sorry, but i don't see a sense for a mail.
Why anybody would want to get 1-200 mails per day with an stupid info (=> a bot was stopped entering your board) ;)

On the botscout page you can see the stats. Isn't that enought?
But it wouldn't be hard to implement it.

BecomeUnbroken 02-10-2010 03:23 PM

Installed.. Hopefully it works, I'm sick and tired of looking up emails and ip addresses on botscout then deleting accounts.

I only Admin a small forum with about new 8 bots a day, emails would be usefull just so I can easily judge the effectiveness of the plugin and botscout without logging in to botscout.

The non-plugin boutscout email alerts to me was usefull but I had issues with genuine signups getting the confirmation email, hence why I dropped it and used your plugin which works great!

Maybe just a switch in the plugin so users can chose to get emails with your plugin?

As I say, great plugin raktek, thanks for sharing it.

Canron

thanks for the plugin, works fine... in my case, it is catching low level of spammers, but it seems someone is manually doing signups... it is quick and painless so thank you!
