There is no welcome headers version 3.8.3.

Modification versions are not correlated to vbulletin versions. Depending on the age and number of audits to a mod it could be at version 1.0 for vbulletin 3.8 or at version 99 for vBulletin 3.6.

LI_Pets 06-22-2009 11:23 PM

I guess I have the only upgrade?:D

There is 3.8.3

Right. But that's your vbulletin version, not your welcome headers version.

LI_Pets 06-23-2009 11:10 AM

Right the welcome header is 4.2, is that your latest?

If there is another newer version will it be different?

Ted S 06-23-2009 05:45 PM

There are several versions of welcome headers for different vBulletin versions. For 3.8 the script is 1.0 if you use the notices system and 4.2 if you use the old approach with templates.

If I update the script the version number is updated.

kizzmet 07-02-2009 03:40 AM

this is awesome! I am also using for a "useless fact of the day" .
Thanks a ton!

Does anyone know where to edit to change background color of the notice to pale yelow ? (what code to add too)
Can the box format be edited?
I have read the whole thread and didn't find it and i remember it is somewhere...
Many thanks in advance.

THE__DRIFTER 07-11-2009 04:07 AM

Having a bit of an issue. The mod is fine but what I have is an issue with the url. If I use the standard settings, and go to my www.website. com it is fine. Since I have vb advanced I have the website as www.website.com; when I go to the forums I get errors due to the path as the forum is located at www.website/forum.com If I change it in the forum home section I can view it on the frontpage but if in forums it gives me www.website/forum.forum.com. How can I fix this?

Never mind as this has been resolved; Thanks.

Ted S 07-11-2009 04:38 AM

You can edit the paths by modifying the notices through the notices manager.

ok I installed and removed the code specified and I still have the default showing. yours shows too though. I am using the newer version in this thread.

see ATT screenshot

Also I dug around and found another instance of this
Code:

<!-- guest welcome message -->
in the header of my template. I removed it and nothing happened. Any ideas?

thanks

Ted S 07-12-2009 05:36 AM

It looks like you have some other code in your custom template calling in the second notice. Since your template is customized you will have to find and remove this.

LI_Pets 07-12-2009 11:44 AM

H Ted, can you tell me if it appears to be working correctly?

Or other suggestions

Site

Ted S 07-12-2009 03:59 PM

If it shows up when you tell it to then it's working correctly. I can't check for you as I don't know which notices you are using under which conditions.

zero5854 07-12-2009 10:09 PM

can u tell me what code I am to be looking for , for the vb standard greeting code please?

Ted S 07-13-2009 02:03 AM

The default code is listed in the instructions with this modification.

zero5854 07-13-2009 02:53 AM

Ok no more circles. Look its not there like that I checked already im not a complete moron. Can u please give me a alt code to look for? I mean where the heck else could it be?

phonexpo 07-31-2009 10:41 PM

Installed, thank you.

Patrick

futuredood 08-09-2009 07:55 PM

Wierd this doesn't work on 3.8.3. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but still it won't show up. This is on a fresh install too.

Ted S 08-09-2009 08:02 PM

Try resaving the notices and checking their order.

phonexpo 08-09-2009 08:26 PM

It works on my 3.8.3 forum.

kizzmet 08-13-2009 05:07 PM

One issue I am having is that if I set it to Dismissible, and someone closes it, it won't come back the next time it is updated. nor on their next visit. It is gone for good for them.
Any ideas?

That option is part of vBulletin's core software and something you would need to request / trouble shoot on vbulletin.com.

checkmail 08-17-2009 07:03 PM

Is there any way to get php code into the welcome messages?

Ted S 08-17-2009 07:26 PM

You can use template conditions with the older version of this addon but not direct php. For that you should use a custom plugin or modify this source code.

Super-six 08-19-2009 07:01 PM

I'll trade you a tip for a tip.......

"What is Welcome Headers?

Welcome Headers is a set of predefined messages and rules designed to help you get started in personalizing your site's notices using the vBulletin notice feature. The de..."

Should be "What are Welcome Headers?"

Where would one find the welcome message plugin that you mentioned?
This would customize the welcome screen modules after email confirmation
I assume?

BTW this is an exceptional plugin...great job. Mark another one installed.
Great site you've got too...I registered yesterday. :D

Ted S 08-19-2009 08:09 PM

Thanks for the typo notification!

For your question can you clarify a bit. This mod does the welcome messages, is there another feature you are looking for?

Super-six 08-19-2009 08:57 PM

Hmmm...ok wait a minute...it is possibly me that isnt grasping things fully here...
let's differentiate between "welcome headers" and "welcome messages".
I am not using those 2 interchangeably. I see them as 2 different things.
Are you stating that this plugin covers both?
If so, that was not at all clear to me.

Ted S 08-20-2009 01:33 AM

Welcome Headers is this modification which displays messages.

Not sure where the word welcome messages appear but there's just one headers modification.

Ok. Clarification.
I was understanding this hack already then and installing tonite.
Many thanks.

I checked out your DM site and registered since I dive.
Once I registered I got a welcome screen module that was
not default. I would like to incorporate similar welcome screen.
That is a beautiful site btw.

Guidance much appreciated. :)

Super-six 08-20-2009 01:50 AM

This one......

Congratulations *****, your D M account has been setup!

We know there's a lot to D M so here's a few ideas to get you started.
• Fill out your d profile and your general profile to help other members get to know a little more about you. You can explain your whole history or just provide the basics -- either way, it helps other members understand who their talking to.
• Once your profile is complete, why not make your official entrance to the community by posting in our new members introductions forum. It's a simple way to get to meet a few members and get all of your questions answered. If you'd prefer to dive right in and ask a question or post your comments, you're welcome to do that as well.
• If you're feeling overwhelmed, try our getting started tutorial for a step-by-step guide to getting the most out of your D M account.
There's a lot more to D M than just forum discussions, you might also be interested in visiting our photo galleries, browsing through our events calendar, searching for local ds or browsing some of our other content or articles.

You can do that with this addon. Just customize it with your text and links.

I believe that is on the post-registration page and is a customization of the existing, default registration message.

Abbsta 08-20-2009 02:17 PM

Fantastic! this is what I was looking for and like you said..

Sorry it's been a while since I customized the message but it is a phrase. Just copy some of the text out of what you have now and search your phrases for it.

Good enough. I went in and found it. Thanks.

Installed the Welcome Message Headers last night. Terrific.
However, this morning Im noticing an extraordinary number of
visitors getting error messages - [triangle symbol with "!"]

Any special settings involved?

Ted S 08-20-2009 11:23 PM

Welcome headers does not change navigation or pages other than to add an additional table through a default vBulletin feature so it should not (and really cannot) have any impact on how people access content.

MeoConVn 08-29-2009 08:01 PM

I can't find the template bit in FORUMHOME.

Do you have a custom template?

MagicThemeParks 09-18-2009 11:11 AM

Does what it should and helps those that need a little kickstart in working the 'notices' that come default with vBulletin!

Thanks Ted! :D
