This is the error I get. Nothing more comes up. I turn that part off, it works fine.

daveaite 07-20-2009 09:57 AM

great mod. i've been actually searching for this mod and i have finally found it :) cheers

cooltechie 07-22-2009 04:46 PM

Is there a way to make the take over message stand out more? Maybe the take over message can be set with a different color, thick border, flashing border, etc.?

Ted S 07-22-2009 11:09 PM

You can make it stand out tons more... if you edit the error page. :D

My suggestion is to work on the phrase that shows up and give that colors, images and flare as you see fit.

ARKphoenix2k 07-22-2009 11:10 PM

Awesome mod thanks, installed. :)

I didn't know you could give it color and such as I thought phrase was only simple text. Thanks!

Ted S 07-23-2009 02:21 AM

Nope, HTML will work just fine in phrases!

panosher 07-30-2009 05:57 PM

Hey Ted,

Is there any way that this mod could tie into the "who's online" page which shows what everyone is doing? I currently list my guests on this page as well, but I have no way of telling which users are viewing the forced registration message. It just shows them viewing the thread.

Thanks

Ted S 08-22-2009 02:17 AM

Probably possible. I'll look at the code next week.

Perfect! I really appreciate it.

I'll be standing by and awaiting your response.

Im viewing this in the product brief:

Quote:

Welcome headers compatibility:
The Limited Guest Viewing is designed to work with the Welcome Headers System version 3.6 without any conflict. If you are using the notices system in 3.7 there is the possibility of duplicating messages.
The message above notates 3.6 & 3.7....So this one is 3.8....any compatibility issues?

Also interested in hearing about that last question tying into "who's online"

Thanks:D

Ted S 08-27-2009 02:13 PM

compatibility, no. The issue listed is collision in which someone could have two messages showing (i.e. a notice and an lgv message) but that's a setting item, not something that will stop anything from running.

Keesa 09-02-2009 11:25 PM

I am a little confused by this part:

Quote:

This option allows you to set the number of threads/ posts a guest may view before receiving seeing the Register Take-Over Message
Threads or posts? Which is it. Allowing them to view 3 threads is a lot different than allowing them to view 3 posts.

:(

edit:
I set it to 2 to test it and I cannot make it work. I have edit the navbar.

Is it because it knows MY cookie as the admin? I am logged out and viewing on a different browser

Does having a "notice" on doing anything to impact this?

ecihanuysal 09-03-2009 10:41 AM

block page and the other page (take over) messages haven't appeared yet :(

i edited navbar. uploaded cron file and imported the xml.

what's the problem? any idea?

It's individual pages. So threads if they are viewing an entire thread or posts if they view one post.

Yes it is. This is a modification to impact guests, if you are logged in or cookied as an admin or even a member it won't impact anything. Log out completely to see the mod in action.

Are you viewing as a guest?

If so please check that the cookie lgv is getting set and increasing as you view more threads.

Gosef 09-07-2009 09:33 AM

thanks a lot

Hey Ted,

Any updates on this?

The issue is that the block page is just an error message. The option would be to either hard code some changes in or redirect to a "new" error page which could be custom tracked but which adds to the amount of files and templates on your site.

Mobo 09-24-2009 11:28 AM

I have been looking at this mod for a while now. I was wondering how many of the new members gained by this mod are actually active in the forums? Have you notice an increase of inactive uses in proportion to new users?

very nice

Is this the hack that doesn't work well with welcome headers, or was it the old version of welcome headers that had problems with this?

I'm using the 3.8 version (notices) of welcome headers...

Every version of this modification has worked with Welcome Headers since it was first released.

Bubble #5 09-27-2009 05:56 AM

OK thanks, I must have misunderstood the instructions where it says:

As a general rule, anyone not using the limited guest viewing system and not planning to do advanced changes is likely best of migrating to the notices system and to this version of the addon.

Ted S 09-27-2009 06:40 AM

As it says you are best off not using this version and limited guest viewing however you certainly can. The issue is that notices are global and may appear on a page where you have limited guest viewing messages as well. This doesn't break anything -- it's just less ideal for your users.

Using the older version of this addon the two do not run at the same time.

chuckrobbie 09-27-2009 11:00 AM

Thank you Ted...works like a charm!

Bubble #5 09-28-2009 05:22 AM

When we try to use this it causes our forum database to crash.

I keep getting database errors that seem to suggest a missing table. I'm not sure if I'm reading it right, but here is what it says:

Quote:

Invalid SQL:

SELECT id,views
FROM vb38lgv AS lgv
WHERE lgv.ipaddress = '45.5.61.2';

MySQL Error : Table 'nhdrs_fom.vb38lgv' doesn't exist
I tried reinstalling but same problems happened. When we remove the hack the forum starts to work again.

How should we troubleshoot this?

Ted S 09-28-2009 05:17 PM

Remove the addon. Manually create the table found in the xml file. Reinstall.

Understood Ted, but being that this is such a great mod, any chance of this mod being updated for vB 4.0 when the time comes?

Ted S 12-01-2009 01:16 AM

of course.

Most Excellent Ted, Most Excellent Indeed. Thank you for the prompt response.
