He has suggested that the company is responsible for making changes based on users' comments in random places on OTHER web sites.

I am not trying to say that Big-Pete is an idiot, nor imply that anyone else is. My point is that he has let his frustration get out of hand. My explanations of how easy it was to get support was to demonstrate not that he was too stupid to figure out how to get it, but that he is so frustrated that he did not want to bother spending any more time to get support.

All of my questions to him, both here and elsewhere, have tried to get at the root at what exactly caused his frustrations. I can't see that it's simply that the manual was insufficient to setup the software - since he could have just asked someone for clarification. The only reason I can see anyone getting this upset is if their database crashed, but he hasn't mentioned anything like this.

If there is a severe problem like this, he needs to report it. If there isn't, he needs to calm down and just tell the proper support person (this is not the place for that) what he couldn't install. His license included professional installation free, after all.

While people have said "it's not easy to set up" here, those issues have been dealt with on a case-by-case basis for users with a license, and those users' suggestions that were made on the official site were not ignored. Now, many of those concerns... are no longer concerns, because in fact, every suggestion I have seen made on the site has been answered, and many of these led to improvements in the setup and functionality of the product itself. However, we have to ask that users be specific when they make a criticism or request a change, or a speedy and effective change cannot be made.

Regarding this thread: It contains an unsupported version of the product that has nearly every feature removed - from a year ago. It is not a good advertisement for the actual current product, nor is anything people say about this unsupported version. This thread goes largely ignored by any staff at the official site. Several weeks after opening this thread I regretted it, and would have deleted it if I could.

I'm sorry. But publicly discussing customers, even though they are negative of your product doesnt really help you.
Never ever discuss someone publicly. The fact you say "I am not trying to say that Big-Pete is an idiot" just makes it look the opposite.

Be nice, supportive and say that you'll try to do everything you can to help this customer goes a long way. If it's just a troll, ignore him.

*customer support rep for different companies*

thincom2000 08-05-2009 02:43 AM

@lordsilence, the intent of my previous posts was not to discuss Big-Pete, but address the numerous concerns he raised. A few posts later, others continued under the assumption that he was discussing was the topic of this thread. Although similar, he was discussing a commercial product. So I mentioned that he was a customer of another web site who posted in the wrong thread.

I tried to point this user to the appropriate place and in trying to say "you should take advantage of these services you paid for rather than posting here" someone got the impression that "it seems like you are calling so and so an idiot" and I tried to state my case more clearly.

The issue at the crux of this argument for me is that this thread is only for discussing the release posted in the thread - not a commercial release or the support on a third-party web site. If you opted to buy a commercial version of this product and have comments about the commercial version, don't say so here. Discussion of these other things is considered an advertisement, whether good or bad, for the third party and is not permitted on vbulletin.org. People who have done so earlier in the thread were warned by the staff here on vbulletin.org, and I am trying to uphold those warnings.

thincom2000 08-17-2009 06:33 AM

As per the suggestions earlier in the thread, we have been doing a lot of work on the documentation, and there is a new version of the Install Instructions for VaultWiki Lite - it's about the only page that's complete as of my posting this.

A lot of the confusing optional steps were removed from the page, so it should be much more straightforward.

VaultWiki runs under a SINGLE forum? Or does it create multiple forums?

thincom2000 09-07-2009 02:24 AM

VaultWiki Lite runs under a single forum - but it can still have sub-forums too.

Helmut71 09-14-2009 07:07 AM

may I ask - what about vb3.8, does it run with it?
And what about other languages - e.g. German?

I was running it with vb 3.8.2 so I can confirm it works with vB3.8.x :)

thincom2000 09-15-2009 01:29 AM

VaultWiki only comes with the English language phrases. Just like with vBulletin, it's up to the community to contribute their translations for other languages.

Sorry but I just don't know that many languages and don't have much time to be make language packs for a Lite product. If you're asking about the commercial version, you'll have to look on the product's web site for the information you're looking for.

Alfa1 11-19-2009 09:49 AM

What impact will vbulletin 4 have on vaultwiki? Will vaultwiki start using the CMS?

thincom2000 11-20-2009 04:42 AM

I don't intend on updating the Lite version for vBulletin 4. If you're looking for information about how the commercial version will handle vBulletin 4, these questions should be directed to VaultWiki's official support site.

mindhunter77 11-29-2009 05:42 PM

Tried to register to test the demo and your forum said I was a spammer, lol.. Makes you wonder how many sales you lose due to false positives from StopForumSpam. I'm not a spammer, yet looks like my IP is somehow listed there, or username, or something, ..

thincom2000 11-30-2009 04:24 AM

Thanks for letting me know. I remember reading elsewhere that their database recently was victim to a DoS attack which has resulted in false positives when using certain setting combinations in vbStopForumSpam. We have changed the settings on our board should this happen again.

Skydiver10 12-14-2009 11:36 PM

Hi there, I have installed this.

I have ran into the problem of a Database error after trying to post an article.

It will show me the data base error:
Code:

Database error in vBulletin 3.8.4:

Invalid SQL:

INSERT INTO vault_link
(postid, title, dateadded, namespace, redirect, templateusage, targetid, type)

VALUES
                                (
                                713,
                                'parachuting',
                                1260840150,
                                37,
                                0,
                                0,
                                0,
                                '37');

Unknown column 'templateusage' in 'field list'
Classname    : vB_Database_MySQLi
MySQL Version : 5.0.67.d7-ourdelta-log

Did I forget something or did I try to create a new thread an incorrect way?

Edit: 37 is the forum ID correct?

Thanks in advance, looking forward to your response.

Skydiver10 12-14-2009 11:42 PM

Anther thing I just noticed is when I go to look at any thread (showthread template), my navbar links are pushed all the way to the right? Leaving a grey bar before the links? Should I edit this navbar template that I modified before I installed the wiki?

thincom2000 12-15-2009 12:51 AM

I updated the ZIP in an attempt to fix that database error. As I don't have a test installation of this anymore (using the commercial version 2.5.7 now), I can't say for certain and this is still "unsupported". If you have a very customized navbar template, then you probably need to make a modification to be compatible with the wiki navbar link.

Skydiver10 12-15-2009 01:01 AM

Should I re-upload everything?

Skydiver10 12-15-2009 01:57 AM

Thanks for the re-upload.

The error was caused my a BB code mod I had, I deleted that and now the wiki mod is picking up the forum id.

Looking into the navbar issue, .......but what about the colors?

Edit: I reverted my navbar back to the original code that it was before install of the forum.
Still no sign of the wiki navbar?

thincom2000 12-15-2009 03:00 AM

You can modify the vault/special.css file to your liking.

Make sure the your reverted navbar includes $template_hook[navbar_buttons_left]
The wiki navbar will only appear in wiki locations, and it also depends on the user's permissions which links appear (I think you need either moderator permissions or you need permission to post new threads).

Skydiver10 12-15-2009 05:07 PM

Hi and thanks for your help, I decided to uninstall this light version since I had to many problems with my navbar, colors, not much support, and not being able to find the wiki navbar links as administrator.

This was such a long process to uninstall:
I also had to re-upload my includes function.php to my host to get my forums working again after deleting all of the vault files on the server, re-upload my original functions file, and delete all of the extra bb code in the bbcode manager that was created from this install.

This was a good attempt on my part, but this product has to many complex issues. I'm sorry to say, but this mod should not be offered anymore, even know the directions are very clear cut, and my experience is at least intermediate since I have installed the entire board myself, and not to mention dozens of modifications to templates, and dozens of hacks installed and de-installed. I would not recommend this mod for the light hearted or anyone to install this mod unless they are a complete programmer with lots of experience in VB and modifications of mods and templates.

What is the price for the non-light?

Hey...thanks again for you help

thincom2000 03-29-2010 11:05 PM

Hi, just released an updated Lite version here. It should be much more stable (as it's been about 2 years), and much easier to set up.

The first post should now have the working ZIP.

thincom2000 04-04-2010 04:24 PM

Posted the 3.0.1 update, which should correct the following issues:
- relative custom BB-Code button paths are broken
- can't rate articles because of message that the article is closed

thincom2000 04-26-2010 03:40 PM

Just released: 3.0.2 Lite. Includes some parser changes / fixes, rewritten CSS, and wiki forum / thread icons.

thincom2000 05-15-2010 05:30 AM

A new update has been posted to patch a possible XSS vulnerability that was discovered in VaultWiki Lite. Even though this particular vulnerability requires some special circumstances, we recommend updating immediately to ensure you are protected.

thincom2000 05-29-2010 05:31 PM

Just released 3.0.4. It fixes an infinite redirect with certain titles, and adds RTL support.

thincom2000 07-06-2010 03:38 PM

Released 3.0.6. Fixes an incompatibility with users still running PHP 4. Unless you use PHP 4, you don't really need to upgrade.

thincom2000 07-28-2010 06:07 PM

Yesterday a security issue was identified by the developers of the commercial version of VaultWiki that also exists in VaultWiki Lite.

As of today, 3.0.6 Lite should address these issues. Even if you are already running this latest version, we strongly recommend downloading the mod again and patching your files as soon as possible.

thincom2000 09-22-2010 11:41 PM

Just released 3.0.7, which fixes the following issues:

- infinite redirect for URL with space after colon
- Title with entities always counts as changed
- article missing after AJAX title edit
- flood check breaks inline moderation
- CSS order when stored as files
- TABLE BB-Code creates broken HTML

thincom2000 11-23-2010 02:34 AM

Thanks to the recent release of vBulletin 4.0.8 Patch Levels 1 and 2, we were able to identify and address 2 security vulnerabilities in VaultWiki Lite. VaultWiki 3.0.8 Lite addresses both of these issues.

Even though these vulnerabilities only affect users with Internet Explorer 6, we still highly recommend that customers upgrade as soon as they are able. Keep in mind that these issues affect customers on all versions of vBulletin, not just those with vBulletin 4.

thincom2000 03-02-2011 03:40 AM

Early yesterday the VaultWiki staff discovered a security vulnerability in the VaultWiki software, which also affects users who have installed the Lite version. VaultWiki 3.0.8 Lite PL 1 has been released today to patch this issue.

ALL versions of VaultWiki Lite prior to 3.0.8 PL 1 are vulnerable. This particular exploit can allow an attacker to access and modify your database. If you currently have VaultWiki Lite installed we urge you to upgrade IMMEDIATELY to protect your site.

thincom2000 08-12-2011 04:31 PM

For users who were experiencing an empty Namespace Manager after installation, today's update should fix the issue. Just reinstall or run the upgrade script.

thincom2000 04-26-2012 10:53 AM

3.0.10 is out today. It fixes some style issues between VaultWiki Lite and vBulletin 3.

G0F0RBR0KE 05-20-2012 11:15 PM

<font color="DarkRed">The "Discussion" doesn't work. It's blank.</font>

thincom2000 05-21-2012 11:26 PM

Check your error logs or turn on display_errors in php.ini to see if there's an error message.

jnmann 04-13-2013 07:50 PM

How do I get this to look like it does in the VaultWiki's screen shots with the icons for each subject etc?

gajinoz 04-23-2013 01:07 AM

Hi there,

Three things:

I installed the lite version and everything seems to have gone well so far.

I signed up for the forum on your site but no activation email seems to have been sent. Is there an issue there? (Same username as here).

When I installed the lite version there was a message in the AdminCP about a coupon code for a discount when buying the full version, which I'd like to do. How can I see that code again?

Thanks.

gajinoz 04-24-2013 09:58 PM

Doesn't look like the developer comes here any more. :(

If you got in touch with the site admins already, then they should have sent you new activation codes to the same email address. But if they are having trouble delivering to that particular address, you might have to use a different one.

If you already dismissed that AdminCP message, you can try installing the Lite version fresh on a test forum, or looking at the adminmessage table in your database to find it. We aren't allowed to post coupon codes here or on the main site. The posts get deleted and the users get warned.

thincom2000 07-30-2013 02:55 PM

The developers of VaultWiki recently discovered an XSS vulnerability in all versions of VaultWiki which could allow users to post arbitrary HTML and Javascript on your site.

VaultWiki 3.0.11 Lite PL 2 corrects this issue and is available now in the first post. Simply overwrite your site's files with the ones from the ZIP to keep your site protected. Due to the serious nature of the bug, we recommend updating as soon as you are able.

Alfa1 10-27-2013 08:46 PM

Vaultwiki 4 beta 7 is out. This is the first VW4 release that is stated to be ready for production websites: https://www.vaultwiki.org/articles/138/
