I tried to install but I gave up when after the install the hack would not work with our vbulletin skin. I eventually uninstalled it because I couldn't fix it.

What sort of problems were you having? We'd be happy to help you get this working properly :)

darklumina 07-03-2008 01:52 PM

It installed fine but it did not handle the current vbulletin very well. Gradients, font styles, and placements were all wrong. It was if it used the skin but either overwrote or neglected the vbulletin style CSS.

I did uninstall it so I do not have an example but if need be I guess I can reupload it and install it again to display as long as no user can access it.

If you reinstall, but do not upload the product, the profile system will be there, but not easily accessible to your users. Then, if you'd like, you can submit a support ticket with temporary access to your site and we can work on matching it it up for you :)

I too had some style issues with the mod, but that was easily sorted by going into the style editor and making up style(s) similar to the two skins my membership use. I then saved them as global shares.

My bigger beeflette is that I cannot seem to find a usergroup perms setting for which groups can or cannot use. For me, that's important.

Yeah right ... anyone agreeing to THAT "TOS" (http://zoints.com/forum-owner-TOS.z) is, in my personal opinion, careless at best.

I almost installed this.

Plus, Zoints has done a lot to help establish the community I help to run, and I guess that makes me a loyal Zointer or something. Does the future of Zoints look good? I certainly hope so, because Zoints rocks.

(Don't worry Zoints, I haven't abandoned you. Hehe)

I have one question, though, and not sure if it's been asked or not (I'm in a huge rush to do like 20,000 things at the same time) - does this create any issues with vBSEO/vBBlog?

Hi intricatic,

Thanks for the kind words, we really appreciate them. As for vBSEO, I am using 3.1 on my personal forum and no issues are created with it (I just use the default .htaccess that comes with ZL.) As for the vB Blog, I can't help you there so hopefully someone with that modification can chime in. From our end, that I know of, you would need to obviously disable our blog and our blog blocks to avoid confusion for your users.

At this time, that is not currently available. We felt that it would be confusing to have two different profile systems in effect, one for some and one for others. Others have wanted this though and perhaps you could get a coder to do it for you. Let us know if you have any success.

You could disable member profile viewing for some usergroups, but that would be a total disabling through vB Admin CP. So if you are looking at enabling ZL for some but keeping the default for others, we don't currently have that feature.

HSeldon,

That TOS was created a long time ago. We have had Zoints Local and all of our mods 100% free in every sense of the word for our entire time of operation. Nobody will ever contact you now or in the future for using Zoints Local or any modification currently released. Why was that put in then? I don't know, I didn't write it or see discussion about it. I can only assume it is standard legal mumbo jumbo. But think about it, we get an email and a username from you, that's it. We have never asked for details where we could actually get payment from anyone as that is not our intention or our purpose with it.

I'll see if I can get any further clarification on that for you. But I am pretty sure it is just saying that Zoints can, if it chooses to, change the price of the service (from free to something else) in the future but that wouldn't effect people who already have and use it, just the people who would download it after that point. Right now, right here ZL2 is 100% free to install, download and receive support on and I promise to you, based on what I know as I am not an owner of Zoints, there is no intention of changing that.

I am still getting the following error when I click on my profile.

Code:

Invalid Forum specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the admin?
I have the .htaccess file in the "z" folder, but I get the same error with or without the file uploaded.

HELP!!

Good point, but consider the fact that a paid subscription usergroup would entail better facilities for that group - this profile system versus the default one.

One of the benefits my members enjoy from donating to help defray my costs is that I tend to load functions into their usergroups that basic free usergreopus do not get.

That was my line of thought there. But, thanks. I got your message.

Hi PG,

Please open up a ticket with us and provide a temporary FTP account, admin account and your forum URL... in case it's needed. With the holiday weekend, there are fewer of us around so if we have the ticket in place and all the needed info, we can get an engineer to look at it sooner should it need to be looked at from that level.

Thanks and we'll try to get you sorted out as fast as we can.

Oh it was something we did discuss for sure and maybe we could work it in one day as we understand how some could certainly use it (for the reasons you mentioned), we just wanted to focus on the features that would be used/needed at as many forums as possible.

I'll pass the feedback along.

Well, one day, when it has usergroup access worked into it, I may consider it again.

Thanks - It was a great trial.

If you have "Store CSS Stylesheets as Files?" option enabled in your vBulletin options - you can temporarily disable this setting and your CSS definitions should work properly with Zoints Local.

This is a bug that has been fixed for the next release.

vbboarder 07-07-2008 06:32 AM

I have several bugs to report. Hopefully these will be fixed with the next release. ;)

1. The "Photo Album" link points to /z/album.php is missing so the page can not load.

2. When the block layout for pages is changed, the layout does not change for old/ existing users, even after specifying apply changes to all users. Similarly, when enabling/ disabling pages, old/ existing members still have those pages present, even after specifying apply changes to all users.

3. When disabling style editing, the users can still edit their styles. Also when style editing is enabled, there should be a more obvious button to end/ cancel the editing besides the tiny 'x' button in the right corner.

Zoints 07-07-2008 10:25 AM

The missing album.php file is a known issue. I haven't seen either of the other two reported previously, so I've submitted those to the engineers for review. Thanks for your feedback!!!

Dear Zoints,

Any idea when can we have stable release of this awesome addon ?

Also, can some provide any other demo link except provided by Zoints?

Best Wishes.

Looks amazing. I'll wait until its out of beta stages though.

Dear Zoints,

Not sure though whether I should I ask or not, but interested in knowing it if you don't mind it.

1. What you are gaining by providing such big adon ?

Suggestion/Request, If possible please incorporate some features from www.perfspot.com, especially its new friends finder which allows to invite people from gmail, yahoo etc address book which helps to increase member ship and members are happy to see there known friends from their address book.

Hi vbboarder,

I don't know if it will make the next update (there was some debate about it as it is confusing) but attached here is the album.php file. And to explain, it is not an album solution but rather a link that your members can enter in which would direct guests to their album URL that was inputted. What might be a really cool thing for someone with some time and skill to do would be to recode that so it automatically grabs album URL for the default vB album system and then it would just be a standard link (so users wouldn't have to enter anything in, it would just further integrate the album into the profile.)

From our creation one of our primary goals, as forum owners ourselves, was to develop quality free modifications that would enhance communities for both the admin and the end-user. We hope by doing so that we develop a good relationship with the forum as a whole and be thought of as a true partner in developing forum communities and connections. Zoints Local is very much on the plus benefit to the forums than to us in complete honesty, but I suppose the greatest benefit gained would be recognition of Zoints.

There are contact grabbers/inviters on vb.org too. If anyone wants to develop a block to share at dev.zoints.com that would take advantage of such an idea, I am sure many here will appreciate it. We're in the process of setting 2.0's bugs right and getting it as stable as we can, but if it doesn't get developed and shared by someone, I suppose it is something we can certainly look into in the future.

Oops, I missed this, my apologies ramu.

No idea about the stable release date, we are still waiting on additional bugs that could come in, but we will have an update out quite soon that corrects some that have been reported.

As for the demo link, I'd suggest seeing if any of the profiles who have mentioned installing/enjoying the product to see if they have their forum listed that might have Zoints Local installed. If anyone wants to share their forum to be listed, please PM the Zoints account. And to clarify, the example forum (my forum) is not affiliated with Zoints outside of the fact that I do obviously work for them. It is my private active forum and one of our live guinea pig forums that has been used in testing ZL in the beta stages. :p

I really can't say. I would imagine we would be at least close to a stable release by then. We all want to put out a stable release as soon as we can, but like I said a lot of it comes from hearing back from those who have installed it, their problems or difficulties and then adjusting ZL. Hopefully bugs will come to a trickle, the engineers will know the bulk of them (at least the common ones) and we'll get them fixed up and have that release out soon.

As for new features, that really isn't in the works for this release as it would further lengthen the RC process as we would have to get testing and feedback on the new features.

You can edit your avatar from links within Zoints (it'll take you to the vB page) but not your signature. You could pretty easily edit the settings page with Zoints Local I would imagine to include links to that and other vB features if you wanted to. We didn't include all of that as we felt that most, not all, forum owners would rather keep the core of their User CP intact and would rather integrate Zoints into that (which we do provide the template edits for if they choose to.) The avatar can be edited from Zoints as it is something used throughout the profiles whereas the sigs are not used in the profiles so we didn't feel the need to include that.

Oh yes. We designed the 3.7x version to be integrated with the vB gallery. There is a block that you can enable for users which displays their photo albums on the vB Gallery (with thumbnails for the albums) and a link to all of their albums. And with Community Central, one of the modules you can enable is to display the latest added galleries. Check the screenshots above to see what I am talking about. :)

i realize theres a block to add for albums...but when i add the block it says unable to locate albums.php so i moved the file over from the forums and i get an error

Tikibird 07-14-2008 07:19 AM

I am an Admin on a large forum that is currently running 3.6.8 and has the previous version of Zoints installed. Before I upgrade the board to VB 3.7.2 PL1 (latest version at time of posting), can you tell me how the new VB profiles) meaning the mini-myspaces) will affect the previous version of Zoints? It looks to me like there are some conflicting features.

Many members have already created profiles in the old version. Will the upgrade to VB 3.7.2 cause them to lose anything from their existing profiles if we keep the old Zoints?

Are there features in the old Zoints that will cause any of the 3.7.x new features to not work?

I would prefer to wait until this new version goes gold before I upgrade to it, I am a little leery of release candidates. At the same time, we really do need the added benefits of 3.7.x.

Ahh, I think I see the problem. Ok traxxx, there is a page for the profiles called Photo Album, to read about it more and download the missing file, please check out the following thread below. But there is also a block which is separate and different from that, this block is called My Albums and it pulls data from the vB gallery system for each user. To enable this block, login to your Zadmin, go to Pages, go to Edit Block Layout for the Profile, find My Albums and add it to the layout.

Hey Tiki,

As with any upgrade we do suggestion proper backups to be made, but if the upgrade goes as it should, it should be a smooth process and you should retain your Zoints Local profiles as they are.

And all new major features to vBulletin work without conflict to Zoints and vice versa. We have tried to integrate the two biggest features, the photo albums and social groups, with blocks to Zoints Local. But both systems work as they are supposed to based on our testing and the feedback we have received.

We are working hard to get this as stable as we can so please continue to check back to see how we're doing.

ZOINTS LOCAL 2.0 RC 2 IS NOW AVAILABLE!

Besides lots of bug fixes, this version adds a much requested new WYSIWYG editor to blog entries, blog comments, profile comments, and discussion threads. The release now utilizes the following third party libraries:

Since this RC release adds a more advanced editor to our application, additional bugs may arise, however, we are sure any bugs regarding the editor will be addressed in a quick and efficient manner.
