Sometimes a hack comes out SO easy to install yet so extremely useful and works perfect on first install. The settings are robust and simple. Thank You abe! This will save me many mass emails..

VB-STYLE 05-11-2008 09:29 AM

Thank you Abe1,

Is there any chance to add the threadID from Thread Tools so the Moderators
can use this mod allso for the importint thread.

riverplate.com 05-11-2008 02:05 PM

Is it possible to make Announcements force read as well?

I've installed this and cannot see the option yet, I'm trying to double check everything to make sure I did not miss anything.

All files uploaded, product installed, this was the first time I'm installing it. Using 3.7.0 gold.

Accessing "/admincp/force_read_thread.php" works as seen in this post, but I cannot get to that page anywhere else.

Also once adding via that page nothing is saved. I guess I will uninstall for now and wait for an update. Thanks though, I've used the 3.6.X before with no problems (aside from multiple read requests)

Very nice
Good Job

I found my problem - for some reason Firefox had just about everything cached, so only after I closed the browser and relogged in was the admin setting there. I havn't had that before so not sure why it happened now.

5 stars still though :)

If users have an avatar on the forum home page like you see in many forums, what ???.php do we disable so it doesn't show up as an X error if the member has not read the post that they are forced to read yet?

sdavis2702 05-27-2008 01:01 PM

This has always worked fine for me until just now. 2 members said the "here" link sent them to an error page. It was working just fine for my test usernames while it wasn't working for them. Any clue why?

mry 05-27-2008 01:27 PM

I am having this issue as well. I did a test for my Super Moderators. It worked for about 6 people, but not 2. They got the message, clicked the button and one got 404 errors and one got some sort of an error about displaythread.php not found or something like that. So Ive had to turn it off until this can hopefully be fixed, which I hope it can be because we really could use this. Everything else was fine...install...setup etc. Running on 3.7.1. This was a virgin install of this hack.

Any resolution Abe? We really want to use this!

markbolyard 06-07-2008 02:38 AM

Installed on a heavily moded 3.7.0 forum, works perfect. Installed on a 3.7.1 stock forum, and see the option in the admincp, not in the thread tools. Also, when I add a thread in the admincp, it doesn't show up even though I get a saved message... Odd.

Alfa1 06-07-2008 07:42 PM

What version of vb 3.7.0 did it work on? I didnt get it to work on vb 3.7.0 B3.

cardin 06-07-2008 08:42 PM

Maybe I'm going blind but I can't find any ACP area to match the second screenshot - where you can enable the hack for guests.

I've installed v 2 and I'm running vb 3.7.1

Thanks,

Paul Cardin

xXEsEtUlOnXx 06-08-2008 06:14 AM

thanks.... installed

Alfa1 06-16-2008 04:21 PM

i have it working on vb 3.7.1
Since I want my members to see the forum and its threads, but not post, I excluded forumdisplay.php and showthread.php
However; my header and navbar popped up under threads, because I did not exclude inlineonline.php

It disappeared after I did exclude inlineonline.php in the options.

Alfa1 06-16-2008 11:21 PM

OK, since I excluded showthread.php, I guess this is the reason why it now does not register when members look at the thread in question. So they keep getting bugged about it and can not use the forum.

Any ideas?

drsli 06-17-2008 06:54 PM

Many thanks! :)

halliday06 06-17-2008 08:31 PM

is it not possible to have them read an announcement?

SNATCH3R 06-19-2008 05:04 AM

I got two queries on this....

I am currently using the previous version of this hack on my forum running 3.7. I installed this when my forum was on 3.6.8 and after the upgrade of the forum software, this hack is working fine except for one incident, which is mentioned below.
  1. Can I upgrade to this new version of this hack and keep the current settings as it is so that the members who had already read the thread will not be prompted again after the upgrade.
  2. I am using vbAdvanced CMPS, and whenever my users use the URL www.forumname.com to go to my site, they get the Administrator message to read the thread. But the link will be http://www.forumname.com/showthread.php?t=xxx. Whereas my actual forum URL is http://www.forumname.com/forums/showthread.php?t-=xxx. But if my users use the URL www.forumhome.com/forums to access the page from their browsers, all works fine.
Can anybody please give me ideas how to sort out the above two problems.

Thanks

TheInsaneManiac 06-23-2008 06:37 AM

When my members click to view the thread, they view it, but still can not view the forum. What's up with that?

Raptor 06-26-2008 09:29 PM

superb hack thanks !!!

germinus 06-27-2008 07:14 PM

Anyway to get this mod so that it makes a user read an announcement, as announcements dont seem to have "threadid"

SNATCH3R 06-28-2008 04:44 PM

Can anybody tell me how this is going to work with a VBAdvanced CMPS 3.0.1. I am using the same for my forum and when I force a thread, it give the wrong URL in the link.

Thanks

KTP 06-29-2008 12:36 AM

Excellent hack, has come in very useful to me :)

one small issue i have is the amount of people that have told me they dont know what to do when the page comes up, seemingly 'click here' isn't clear enough! is there anyway i can underline the word 'here' just to highlight the link, i played about with my skin settings but they dont seem to affect the link text of this hack.

tafreeh 06-29-2008 01:57 AM

hello, a very usefull hack ... but instead of showing error to a member can you put some kinda redirection .... when user get
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachmen...c=1&thumb=1&d=
this error (( admin want u to read thread )) is it possible that user will rediret automaticly to that specific thread, after viewing that error for 3 or 5 secs...

Raptor 06-29-2008 10:09 AM

Ski-Whiz 07-06-2008 04:05 PM
