I use it to get people's attention - Hey, [you], you need to read this thread... viewing rates skyrocket

cheat-master30 05-08-2008 03:36 PM

I have found a major problem with this... it works in usernames...

So now, I have a member (now banned) who's a mirror of whoever views their posts, profile, PMs, etc.

They also always display last on who's online, and just look weird. Seriously, he has the username of the viewer. I think you need to make the next version not parse usernames, and anyone using this needs to ban the [you] code in usernames...

Boofo 05-08-2008 04:18 PM

First, you need to click install. Second, I have no idea what you just said. Please explain it further.

cheat-master30 05-08-2008 05:00 PM

Just warning that someone found out you can use it in usernames and it'll parse as the viewers username. For example, if someone used it here, you'd see their name as Boofo, while everyone else would see their name as their own name.

Koroku 05-08-2008 05:11 PM

Easy fix - just disallow [you] for usernames. >_>

Boofo 05-08-2008 05:14 PM

Yes, exactly. Problem solved. Thank you, Koroku. ;)

ramsayeg 05-08-2008 08:23 PM

I am trying to use it in SmnLikQuick v2.0 - Advanced Announcements Block mod, in order to welcome my members, but it doesn't seems to work and only shows 'Welcome, [you]!' (It does supports BB tags).

Any chance for a solution?

Boofo 05-09-2008 02:05 AM

The [you] is not an actual bbcode tag. It is a replacement variable. 2 different things. Apparently, that hack uses a different hook than I have set for the replacements.

I see, thanks for the info. It's a shame, could be a great solution for me.

Boofo 05-09-2008 09:32 AM

Talk to the author of that hack and see what they say.

Phpaw 05-09-2008 09:52 AM

nice product
it's good for new members :D
Thank you!

nene94 05-21-2008 06:51 PM

Installed, Thanks, nice mod

peterpigman 05-21-2008 11:17 PM

My only problem is vbseo shows "you" in the thread addy. Which I would guess is impossible to fix. Still fun though.

Thelonius Beck 05-22-2008 12:13 AM

Lots of fun. + Great tool. Great Hack Boofo.

Description:
This will replace the [you] variable (board-wide) with the viewing user's username.

SauravG 06-19-2008 05:57 AM

Amazing modification. Thanks.

TimberFloorAu 06-19-2008 06:15 AM

Bugger it will just bloody install it, and see what its about.. pmsl.

Best way is to tread into others footsteps.

Need your help Bob, will post on other mod, erm...Thread Started By USer.

Ozzy

TimberFloorAu 06-19-2008 06:34 AM

Installed, but utterly bewildered.

I have no idea what it does. If someone quotes me in a post, it always says my username anyway. As it is a Quote

Am i looking at this from the wrong angle?

Boofo 06-19-2008 06:49 AM

Have you clicked the install button?

TimberFloorAu 06-19-2008 07:08 AM

Apologies ( Installed )

Still bewildered lol

Boofo 06-19-2008 11:07 AM

Dear Bewildered,

I don't know how else to explain to you what it does. Have you tried using the hack to see what it does?

Abby

TimberFloorAu 06-19-2008 06:37 PM

The only thing I can think is that VBSEO doesnt allow it to display.

Or perhaps you must be in threaded mode.... still dont see what it does.

Can you do a screenie to demonstrate ( someone anyone plz )

Boofo 06-19-2008 06:57 PM

VBSEO doesn't affect it whatsoever. There is no way to do a screen shot as all it does is replace the [you] with the username of whoever is viewing it at the time.

TimberFloorAu 06-19-2008 07:27 PM

viewing?

now you have my inquisitivness aroused..

Boofo 06-19-2008 07:43 PM

Viewing as in the person looking at it.

Sorry mate.

Reason I am replying to this constantly is your mods/hacks are superb. Hence I want to see what this one does.

If it does something, surely a screenpic is possible.

Perhaps, we have other products that conflict with this.. i really dont know.

this is my original hack from back in the v2 days. over the years I had added to it. one of the features I had added was to be able to limit it to specific forums via the forum manager.

Enable / Disable Features
Allow HTML
Allow BB Code
Allow [IMG] Code
Allow [YOU] Code

any plans on doing this for your 3.7 version?

also I had added the ability to use things like [YOU-EMAIL], [YOU-ID], & [YOU-IP]. I'd want to re-implement them but I was recently emailed by a user who pointed out that someone could post a scripted image to return the readers you code info. any suggestions on how I could avoid that? i certainly don't want someone lifting my users email address & ip.

thanks

Boofo 06-20-2008 02:05 PM

This is based on that but uses plug-ins now and all new code. ;)

PM me when you have time and we will see what we can come up with. Some of your additions
sound good.

yeah, I'm looking at your code now. it's tiny. very simple. nice

looking at how to do what I want. added the forum option. just gotta make it work with your code. pretty sure i should be able to handle it with a if this script = showthread deal.

thanks

Boofo 06-20-2008 04:15 PM

I don't have it working with the email notification yet. Haven't found the right hook to get it work there. PM me when you get the changes made as I would like to look at it, if possible.

Mutt 06-20-2008 05:04 PM

tweaked it to check my foruminfo setting but I had to add

Code:

global $foruminfo;
to your global_complete plugin. how bad is that? do you think it would effect anything negatively?

the way i have it setup not it does your output replacement if the script is showthread or forumdisplay & enable_youcode is on for that forum. I know you have it on all over the place but for me, I want to limit it down to just the 1 joke forum. having it on everywhere would cause complete chaos on my site. :)

Boofo 06-20-2008 06:19 PM

Can you send me what you have when you are finished with it? I want to see how you did it. Did you figure out the email notification?

M-Tuning 06-26-2008 08:28 AM

Is it possible to only allow this for some usegroups?

saviola8x 06-27-2008 01:48 PM

Thanks add on. Nice
