Are you using the Google Analytics feature? Does it still disable the footer template if you turn footer advertisements off via the vB Ad Management CP?

Kevlar 11-21-2006 04:09 PM

Master switch - ON
Google Analytics - ON
Footer - OFF

gives me no footer at all

Master Switch - ON
Google Analytics - OFF
Footer - OFF

gives me my regular footer

It seems if I have the master switch to on and the google switch to on, my entire footer goes away.

Ok, so using settings that allow your footer to show up properly, does the copyright link appear in the footer?

dirtycrow 11-21-2006 06:28 PM

thanks for the great hack.

one issue tho. in global options, Do NOT display advertisements to Usergroups:; user groups added still see the header ads, but not the post bit ads.

is it meant to do that? i would rather that if I set a group to "Do NOT display advertisements to Usergroups:" they see no ads anywhere.

Download the updated ZIP, upload the new product (Set overwrite to Yes) and that should fix it. Sorry 'bout that.

They both update the footer in exactly the same way, so I'm stuck for the moment as to why this is happening. Could be because you have a heavily customised footer, I can't reproduce the problem on my default setup. I might need to take a look at your forum AdminCP myself, I'll get back to you tomorrow.

What is in the screenshot is the threadbit area. For ads to show in the postbit, you must post your code in the postbit code section and the below that check "Yes" where it asks if you want to enable adverts with posts. If you do not want adverts in the threadbit as in your screenshot, you must disable that section. If you do want threadbit adverts then you should double-check the code you have entered for it. The blank space would not show up if you had not entered code. If you're having problems getting what you want to show up, post the advertisement code here and I'll have a look.

Biggles 11-22-2006 09:08 AM

Thanks Red Tigger. I've downloaded the updates but not yet installed. Still thinking about some decent ads (I am not into Google - don't find their ads entirely appropriate for my site).

This is a great hack, for which I am most grateful. Been looking for something like this for a long time. It is particularly useful for those who have trouble with coding and with understanding how (and where) to install ads - like me, for example.

Well done.

TheBlackPoet 11-22-2006 10:16 AM

google sucks! BUT.... this is the SHIZNIT SUN!!!!! im trying to find paid sponsors to buy ads on my forum... and i am definitely using this hack... thanks!!

thumbsucker 11-22-2006 10:38 AM

How do I get Adsense to show contextual ads relevant to my site topics and not generic Vbulletin ads all over the place?

mauro1947 11-22-2006 12:09 PM

Hi!
Enter to www.google.com/adsense
Bye!

My footer isn't anything special... it's the standard vB footer with some added banners.

forums.bimmerforums.com/forum ... you can see it there.

exilera 11-22-2006 03:10 PM

Here's a bug... for the threadbit ad display, it adds the ad with the post icon block enabled, even if the forum has post icons disabled. My forum has all of the post icons disabled, so I'm unable to use that feature at the moment.

Everything else works great though!

I hadn't thought of that! I'll release an updated version with a fix ASAP.

If you search out the threadbit_advertisement template you can remove the extra column yourself if you don't want to wait.

exilera 11-22-2006 03:14 PM

Yea I did :) Just thought I'd let you know about the issue though. Great ad system here man, best I've seen by far!

RedTyger 11-23-2006 07:54 AM

Where are you both trying to put advertisements? (Please include ALL locations, not just the one that doesn't work. Or tell me if none of them work.)

tanand79 11-23-2006 08:06 AM

RedTyger 11-23-2006 08:08 AM

Can you try seeing if a different kind of code will work? An image banner or something.

tanand79 11-23-2006 08:13 AM

i just wrote a simple text in the threadbit section and it showed up in the screen...only the google ads. dint show up...my adbrite thing is also working f9

I get exactly the same problem, wierd thing is the footers doesnt show in the default style either and I haven't even changed any templates in their. So I have to keep Google Analytics tracking off for the footer to appear.

Any fix for this?

RedTyger 11-24-2006 06:17 PM

Unfortunately I don't actually use any advertising myself so I don't have access to the code to test on.

However! The file attached to this post should, I hope, fix both the problem with the Google Analytics code causing problems with the footer and the Google Adsense code that wouldn't show up. I can't test myself, so if anyone would like to be a guinea pig...just overwrite your existing product with this one.

korny 11-25-2006 05:09 AM

Red, I like this mod. I already installed it and everything is running good with both 3.5 and 3.6. I use header and footer ads alot, I have a few forum sections I would not want the ads to showup in. I see that there is no way in the admin cp to turn the header and footer of for certain forum ids? Why is that? Is there a easy fix to where I can have them shut off?

I already clicked installed. ;)

There are few settings per location simply because it would make both the settings and the code itself insanely complicated. If you have something specific you want to do, it's best to do it just by editing the template.

Try surrounding the entire footer/header_advertisement templates with:

Code:

<if condition="!in_array($GLOBALS[forumid], 5,6,7)">
REST OF TEMPLATE
</if>

where 5,6,7 is the IDs of the templates you want to exclude. If that doesn't work, try surrounding the $footer_advertisement value in the header/footer template with the code. Or finally failing that, try replacing $GLOBALS[forumid] with $forum[forumid] or $foruminfo[forumid].

Can't remember which will work, but one of them definitely will.

korny 11-25-2006 06:34 PM

I ended up putting the header code at teh bottom of the navbar templete. would your new code here make a difference?

RedTyger 11-25-2006 07:20 PM

Nope.

korny 11-25-2006 07:52 PM

So you are saying this code will work the same as if I had it in the header templete?

RedTyger 11-25-2006 07:54 PM

Correct. If you search the thread earlier someone did something very similar to have the banner show on vB CMPS. Both the header and footer banners will work anywhere.

Is anyone going to tell me if the code update in this post fixes the bugs mentioned?

So far so good... I turned on the global on switch and the google switch and seems to be working thus far. I'll get back to you if I have any more issues...

Kevlar 11-26-2006 04:33 PM

It doesn't seem to want to display the google adsense script code when I put it in the box. It outputs the advertisement box, but the box is empty. If I put regular text in the box, it will output the regular text.

RedTyger 11-26-2006 04:35 PM

Curses. Is there any issue with me using your adcode to test on my own empty passworded dev forum? If not, can you PM me the code and I'll do some proper testing.

I would love this mod to have counter for the links and reports and so on like this mod. If you can view there source and make it happen I would really appreciate it.

RedTyger, this is an AWESOME mod and should be part of the next vb upgrades!

What is the best way to change the "Sponsored Links" from the PM, Threads, announcemnet area? This may conflict with Google since they don't like those words. I would like to change it to "Ads By Google".

Mike

Grabbing someone else's code? Don't think so mate, not terribly ethical. I don't actually need to see anyone else's code to do that, but it's not something I have plans to do at this time. Sorry. I'd have to rewrite most of what I've done so far and half the attraction (I hope/think) is it's flexibility, I'd likely have to remove some of that to incorporate stats.

Just change the "Sponsored Links" text in the Global Settings section. It's near the bottom.

Click install please!

AWJunkies 11-28-2006 11:14 PM

I didn't mean steal toolio I ment look at it and see what I ment by stats and what could be a future add on to this mod. No reason to be nasty. I am a programer as well and we all share and help eachother to make the best mods possible it has nothing to do with stealing and always give original coder credit. If you don't like the idea that is totaly understandable it is your mod and a GREAT mod at that no credit taken away. But for a business or commercial stand point without the stats it is useless. I have 25 websites and will use this mod on about 10 of them but rest are to commercial and need to record stats to show the clients. I client log in to check stats is a huge plus as well which would be a great add on.
