Really I can't understand you. Some days ago you've wrote:

Now you're saying just the opposite. In any case, I know very well Photopost, I've 3 licences of it since it was only in Perl (later they port it to PHP). I dont think that it has something in common. It's more gallery that Hot or Not.

CMOD has nothing to do with vBulletin. It's a Linux command to give to a directory in your website (server) access or read or write. Usally directories have permissions 755 which means that users can read but only the Admin (let's say) has the ability to write. In this directory /vbmates/photos/ you need also write permissions so the photos can be uploaded.
Depending on the FTP client that you're using to upload files in your server see how you can CMOD a directory to 777.

thank you much. linux is next on my list to learn after all this html and vb. im using the windows explorer for ftp uploads. i right clicked on the photos folder and checked the boxes to allow write for users, too. i'll try and see if that did it. vbmates becomes popular with our members, we will purchase the premium version later this winter.

thanks again for all your knowlege. much appreciated.

[clicked install]

That's the meaning of Respection for some people. Not only removed my copyright, but, ever worst, they replaced it with their own. Seems that they're so idiots that they don't even know how to remove a copyright.

NO, the images not need to be CMOD to 777. They must be as they're (644). Only the /vbmates/photos/ must be 777 so the script can write image on it. Please check your server's documentation. Some servers needs 775 or 755 or I don't know. 777 is the common used but.... Check to see what you must put as value to be access/read/write by all. A good idea is if you've any other script that uploads images or files to see what's the number there.

angkor408 10-31-2006 05:59 PM

Microhellas, thanx for ur respond. I check my images folder default is set to 644. The only problem is with this vbmates that the image is automatically set to 600. I had check the Vbmates/photos is set to 777. If I change permission on the image from 600 to 644 I was able to view the image. But it shouldn't do this all the time when members upload new images. What could be the problem? I don't have any problem with other hack displaying images. Angkor

angkor408 10-31-2006 07:29 PM

I check with my hosting today this what they say:

The upload script automatically changed the file permissions to 600. You need to correct the script to have the proper default permissions for the images.

I did not say photopost. I said PhotopostVBGallery which is different and unlike photopost is 100% vb integrated.

What is different with what I said then, and what I am saying now?

Photovote or photorating will be my first choice. I said to consider doing a module for vbagallery as it has members categories already loaded with images. Then we would select those images for photo rating.

If you want to reinvent the wheel and complicate things by having two of the same, like you currently have 2 profiles in the same site, then all the best.

Lionel 11-01-2006 05:34 AM

Anyway, I just looked at the picture of hot or not. Looks nice. If it can be independent from vbmates which I don't want to use, and use vb usergroups permissions instead, I'll buy it as a standalone and let people upload pictures and start from scratch.

Really I didn't knew that there is different module. Reading Photopost I thought that it was that terrible (in support) script. And I'm wondering how they didn't started shouting because someone used the word "Photopost".
Well, I want to make clear something for all my current and future modules. I dont plan to follow the way of any type integration. The reason is very simple. Any time when the other module change something, I must follow their changes. And if they're real proffesional maybe they'll give me all the neccesary information. But imagine, I asked for vbAdvanced some documentation on how to port my module with vbAdvanced and one month now I have no reply. Imagine that I'm a commercial customer of their Links module.
I read somewhere here a very, very real topic. Is from the Author of WebMail module. He became crazy when he has to change his code with any new version of vB. Why to place myself in troubles? Why eg to use vbmail() to send an email while I can easily use mail()?

Lionel 11-01-2006 06:04 AM

Humm, I am surprised at vbadvanced. I have been with them for 2+ years and support has been excellent.

It's very easy to do modules. I just did a bunch of them for a site that is doing exactly what vbmates is doing, but with usergroups. PM me if you need some help. BTW they were the original maker of vbaGallery before photopost took it away from them. There must be thousands of copies out there.

And I agree with you. Photpost is very prehistoric. I used them from the Perl days, until vbaGallery came along.
