I'd also suggest you try adding ecDownloads Buddy. It totally changes how the files are downloaded. That may help.

any update on the SAFE MODE dnlds.php cause if not i have to revert to 3.3 so i can offer dnlds to my members right now i get the error and nothing is available.

I installed this and i can go directly to the downloads page via putting in http://websitelink/downloads.php

However i get an error at the top of the screen saying

There is no index.html or index.php in the download directory!

Also, i cannot see a link anywhere within the main page for the downloads though i have set the permissions correctly

it means you need to add that file to the downloads folder in your ftp
westpointer you should make a thing yin your first post about that this way you dont get so many of them questions again

if you have a navbar you could put it there there is a few ways to do it depending on your theme..

That's how mine used to look but now all the side menus are at the top and show up on every page again.

you can change that around pretty easy... look for downloads_panel_top and change it to downloads_panel_side also change downloads_wrapper_top to downloads_wrapper_side in downloads.php... i think that was all westpointer will have to confirm it... just change what you want to your look and feel..

I used Beyond compare to see the changes, I removed all the downloads_panel_side lines and added downloads_wrapper_no_side line but when i load the page it's just blank with this at the bottom

No need to pay. Real life and questions about the licensing for this mod slowed me down. I'll get you something that works for safe mode , address the field naming, and move the "tops" to the side on Monday.

I think it's working now, it uses downloads_wrapper_none in this version instead of downloads_wrapper_no_side.

I got rid of all the side panels now.

I have been getting a large number of files from a few users to add to my site as resource material and i have been uplaoding them to the server then importing them, which seems the easiest thing to do.

However, i have to go through every individual file and assign uploader so the right people get credit

Could there be an option that allows to mass assign uploaders for files?

Okay, test this downloads.php file for me. BEFORE you try to test it, create a directory called ec_tmp under the downloads directory. Be sure to set the permissions to 777.

BTW - this will NOT work if you have "Downloads Buddy" installed. If you have it installed, please disable it while testing this file.

My plan is to totally revamp the by category permissions. It will be something like the included image. Time frame ... for sure not until a couple weeks ... at the earliest.

Yes, it's the real deal. I need to make a few more tweaks before adding it to the general release but it is good to go for your situation.

Attached is ecDownloadsII ver 5. I went up to version 5 so people wouldn't get confused with version 4 being the last version of ecDownloads.

Please PM me with any problems or to let me know it works good. Please DO NOT discuss ver 5 here (yet!)

What it does:

1. Adds everything from ecDownloads Buddy back into ecDownloadsII.
2. Plugs a security hole that could be used for a DOS attack.
3. Completely re-writes the method for downloading files.
4. Cleans up the "Downloads" section of the admincp (thanks EvilHawk!)
5. Permits safe_mode to be on

No old templates are changed although a new one is added. If you are using ecDownloads Buddy, you MUST uninstall the Buddy before installing this.

EvilHawk helped me with some phrases that went screwy and some edits that I did but then included the wrong @$%@%# file.

Hay i was using Ron1s 4.1 version.
I uploaded your downloads.php as you said by overwriting the existing. (Thats only thing i did)
Then i add the ecdownloads buddy thats all.

When i click on Update Counters it says

i can change chmod only to 3-letter code.

I tried it with chmod777 and the new downloads.php file. the error message:
