Well you could always say what is important do you and we can tell you if it will be in the final :)

Well here is the list of features I am expecting, as well as many others I think :)

- Profile Comment System (with date/time added)
- Picture Gallery (with comments and title if available)
- Rating System, can rate the user, can be really simple :)
- Notification system (new comments, new friend requests, new messages)
- Default picture, and maybe top 8 friends if that's not so hard to do...

Hey guys, I found this thread and think you have a great idea. I'm actually starting a new SN-type site and have been trying to find a good solution. The one advice I'd give to the developers, and I'm sure you're already doing this, is to go to Myspace, get an account, add some friends, and see what works and what doesn't. I don't like Myspace in general with it's AOL talk, but there are definitely some compelling features, primarly the friend finding system based on commonalities and the versitility of the profile page. I'll be watching this thread.

Well that's a good beginning :)

I have discussed the gallery system with a couple of fellow coders, and it doesn't seem to be that hard really, so might want to have a talk with geo or Hellcat.

Glad the rest is all planned, don't be shy to add more as you go along ;)

There is alot 'planned' but as said for beta it will be less intense then following releases.

The gallery will not be to hard, it is matter of time , core system, beta testing, getting it to the community ect.

If the top 8 friends feature is included, it would be nice to make it an option that can be turned off and on. I'd prefer not to use it.

Blog integration would be nice as well even if not in beta. Maybe even utilizing WordPress Multi-User?

althought myspace has just released its own IM program :P ;)

An idea for a future release: add functionality to log in to other social networking sites and copy information from a persons account say on MySpace, Bebo, etc - this would save a person having to enter information if they were to sign up to a vB site.

I honestly have not thought on that feature. I do not think it would be to much of a trouble in one of the releases.

I think they said it will be a stand-alone version and everything will be controlled by the admin :)

That is correct. There will also be an (optional via adminCP) start page.

For example, when a user logs in to the forum, it would redirect him to his start page (yes...on YOUR forum :) ) where they can view things like "new members", "top rated members", and such as well as all of his controls and settings similar to myspace (Superfly will help template wise in this area).

The best part, is there will be an "on/off switch" in the adminCP, so if you did not want to utilize this feature, you dont have to. I could go on and on......but lets get to door 1 before we open door 2.

In a release following the inital one, yes. As well as adding a mod or admin of your choice to everyones list.

It will be general, you will have the ability to customize the templates/phrases to suit your needs.

I think it would make members more likely to use the vbspace profiles if they could access their profile page by the address username.sitename.com.

I feel that people would think of it more of their own space in that situation, let alone it's something easy for them to remember and tell to thier friends.

Well, lets not call it vbspace now. :)

We already have that functionality via the .htaccess file however...there is an issue with names that contain spaces and possibly special characters. That will be tackled after the inital release, which will temporarily use the .htaccess until things are sorted out.

Hmmm... would that entail using subdomains? I use a number of subdomains on my site already. What if a user chooses a username but the subdomain is already in use? I guess I don't get how this would work.

As for the vbspace name, perhaps we should all try to brainstorm a new name for this project if you don't already have one.

The url/name will actually end up working like the ones on myspace , where the user can make a 'nick' to be called by , check availability and then implement it.

Today I got a few hours of coding in, main working right now is on all back end functionality, the way this is being coded is with the intent to make all other options/add-on easier in the future.

Demo will not be able to show for awhile, due to a few facts, one I am coding it on local host for now and another is due to I do not have a spare vb lic to use on this project.

Screens may come rather soon though, once the part I am working on is where I wish it to be things will speed up rather fast.
