There appears to be an error in the code (billspaypal.php). If you want the breadcrumbs to work you'll need to add this code:

Code:

$navbits = construct_navbits(array('' => 'Donations'));

Thanks cOuNtErFiET for posting the link ;)

Billspaintball 05-06-2006 11:30 AM

Thanks Bubble#5, I hadent picked that up. Iwill make those changes to the next update due very soon.

Also adding manual edit instructions for those not using (or using a heavily modified) Navbar.

Sounds good ;) This is by far the BEST donations mod that there is! The only other problem that I found was when you click on the 'verified' seal it sends you to a login page, instead of verifying that the person is verified. Other than that this mod is golden :bunny:

Sending you to the login in page is how it is supposed to work. The only way to verify someone is to have an account on PayPal yourself. Once you log in you will see the verified page if they are verified.

I think we both know that PayPal could have designed it to work for everyone, non-PayPal people included, but at least we now know that the mod is working correctly ;)

Thanks :bunny:

Well, yes, I suppose they could have but without an account there, you can't pay with PayPal anyway so it wouldn't matter if they were verified or not. ;)

Of course not, but you're assuming that every person that clicks that link has the intention to actually go through with making a donation. Some people are just checking to see if the site is actually verified...

Either way, this is a great hack.

Made setting up a donation system fairly painless and it looks great on the site too

Why would anyone even care if the site is verified if they aren't going to donate anyway? You're in a catch-22 here. LOL

Oh, and there will be a newer template in the next update. I think you will really like the changes. ;)

If you don't already know the answer to that, then this isn't the place to go into it, use your imagination. You're my hero, I'm sure you'll come up with a few reasons why someone might click on that link other than to give their money away ;)

Changes? Oh that sounds great  How about including a real credit card number in the instructions so that we can "test" to see how well the donation button works... even bunny likes that idea :bunny:

Your hero? You have very low expectations for hero-ship (is that even a word?), don't you? ;)

Let me get right on that. I think I have a credit card here somewhere. This will be cool!

Wait a minute, who does that sound fishy all of a sudden? :cross-eyed:

Here's what the new template will look like, so far. I haven't finished it totally yet, but there are some differences. And feel free to use your own credit card to donate until I can find mine and get it up there. ;)

Your page says:

"Please enter your donation amount above, and then click on the donate button below."

...only you no longer have a 'Donate' button. You might want to change the wording. Other than that it looks nice :)

There is a button there. What do you mean?

You know that and I know that, but does it say "Donate" on it?

People can sometimes get easily confused, remember the last election?

Unfortunantly that is the way PayPal operates, you must log into them before you can confirm someones verified status.

I could add an option so that you can choose to use the PayPal sandbox to test it. However that is a fair bit of extra work so it will have to wait till I finish off this hack, (and the deluxe version) first.

DementedMindz 05-07-2006 04:04 PM

its if you have vbadvanced installed it will give you a side block...

Bubble #5 05-07-2006 04:09 PM

OK thanks :)

Here is another donations button if anyone needs it.

DementedMindz 05-07-2006 04:10 PM

why would you erase your first post here is the answer again... its if you have vbadvanced installed it will give you a side block...

rareclownfish 05-07-2006 05:25 PM

Is there away not to have the donate in the navbar and just have it as a block on the forum and portal page?
Thanks

That has nothing to do with the button not showing.
Its added to the php file, but its not critical.

There is a new update Im currently testing that has this fixed.
It should be out shortly (bloody feature creap...).

rareclownfish 05-08-2006 03:46 AM

Im at work at present so I cant test this, but it should be something like
Code:

<div align="right"><a href="billspaypal.php"><img src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/x-click-butcc-donate.gif" border="0" alt="Make payments with PayPal - it's fast, free and secure!" /></a></div>
Let me know if that does not work and I will check when I get home.

rareclownfish 05-08-2006 10:04 AM

OK works great thanks.

I just thought of something about this mod, it doesn't send the Admin an e-mail telling them that a donation was made, does it? I think PayPal does this but it takes around a day before you get it. It would be great if a e-mail with the members username and amount of the donation could be sent. Other cool features to add would be:
  • The forum would send a PM to the member that made the donation. This PM should be able to accept BB Code.
  • The admin would be able to automatically add the member that made the donation to a new usergroup. The admin would be able to assign what donation amount would equal what usergroup.

    For example;

    10.00-25.00 = Usergroup X
    25.01-40.00 = Usergroup Y
    40.01-100.00 = Usergroup Z.

This would be a great way to increase the amount of donations that were made as each usergroup would contain more forum features for the member.

Paypal emails you the donation amount and username within a couple of minutes.
Having the forums email the admin directly on a confirmed transaction requires use of PayPals IPN, which this version of the hack does not use.
It would be possible to add this feature in V2.0 (or whatever I decide to call it)

Thats some ways off though, 1.3 is the next release, due later today.

But without your original template to go from, this never would have been possible. So, I thank you, sir, for giving me a basis to start from. ;)

thanks for this product. easier to use and a good way to let members know they have options to help.
