Hey Marco,

nice job, thanks. I have some additional questions:
1. I am using vbSEO at my board. Does this addon have any influence on my SEO links?
2. Does it work with vbSEO at all?
3. Is it working with vB >3.7.3 or 3.8.x?

Thanks in advance...

1. Don't see how this modification can interfere with any other modification.
2. See ^^^
3. See my previous answers in this thread. This modification already works unchanged since 3.5, so i don't see why it wouldn't work on 3.8. But if you want to know........try it.

"thanks in advance"

I doubt that this modification would not work with vBSEO, but if it doesn't then the solution must come from vBSEO. I am not going to make changes.

PS What "link" is not recognised?

Thanks Marco. :)

is it easy to modify this, so it will compare another variable to define which language is used?

I would like to install this mod in the following setting:

-> Forum language English (as I'm used to that)
-> Forum descriptions Dutch

Guess you'll understand what I mean.. I create a custom profile setting 'Forums Language' which can be Dutch/English and it only translates the titles/descriptions.

flup 01-23-2009 04:52 PM

can I request custom variables via the $vbulletin->userinfo[] variable?

Forum Lover 01-24-2009 04:47 PM

Any further option may possible in future release on changing thread titles too? :)

And members can optionally put two titles for a thread.. one for lang 1 and another for lang 2 for example. I mean another title field which gonna be optional.

This would be something that not many would use, so i am not going to spend time such a feature. But you can ofcourse edit the copy used on your own forum.

Not so sure if this would work in real life. Doubt many posters will provide double (or triple) translations of a title. It could be done i guess, but i would suggestto make that a seperate modification (and no, i don't have the time to create it).

About vbSEO.
It works with vbSEO 3.2 and VBulletin 3.7.1 I have now and I am sure that 3.8.x will work too if you DONT use forum titles in URL Rewrite rules.

The problem with vbSEO is - if you like to have the "forum titles" in URL, then you have problem, as of Marco's mod changes for each langage that variable that vbSEO uses during generation of the static-rewritten URL. You have in each langage new forum title and vbSeo is not able to remaster it.

For example:
Say you have forum named "Travel" www.blabla.com with id 74.

Then URL to that - www.blabla.com/forumdisplay.php?id=34 rewritten with VBSEO to www.blabla.com/Travel if your interface is in Englisch.

But as soon as you change to say French, this mode changes the Title of forum to "Voyage" and vbSeo trying to generate URL www.blabla.com/Voyage and is not able to pass corresponding real url to vbulletin as www.blabla.com/forumdisplay.php?id=34

Just for my case I escaped using Forum Title in URL rewrite rules and have www.blabla.com/forum[forumid]/

For Marco's mode one need to find a way to pass vbSEO only say forum titles of one langage, or write a rewrite rules in vbSeo for all languages - but this will mean double content as of URLs for search engines, will look like different, but content is same - this could bring penalties form searchmonsters like Google....

Marco van Herwaarden 03-13-2009 10:16 AM

Such a solution should come from vBSEO. I am not going to make changes to this modification to make it work with vBSEO.

soulface 04-02-2009 11:19 AM

For those who facing URL rewrite problem in vBSEO, use vBSEO Slugs feature: http://www.vbseo.com/f2/vbseo-slugs-...416/#post57221

no matter what lagnuage you use using this module to translate your forum name using vBSEO Slugs feature, your forum title will remain same as your current english rewrite rules.

Are you sure, that is works? Could you let the link to your forum, if not in thread at least in PM.

voter 04-07-2010 06:07 PM

I was need to uninstall, delete database entries and reinstall it on vb402.
Now it starts to work but I need to reenter all translations - seems something with datastore table got wrong after upgrade.

Marco I would suggest to store the data in separate table and not as row in datastore table of database.

The only problem remains, that as long any language is installed but not yet have translations.

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in [path]/global.php(29) : eval()'d code on line 18

As well take into account that if you use Mod Rewrite Friendly URLs with this mode the problem with search engines could appeear, as of your forums/thread having same content will be reachable under different urls, one for each translation. This problem was there in previous versions with vbSEO as I mentioned https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....5&postcount=91, but now it is a porblem with compatibility of this mod with vb4.0.2 and not only vbSEO mod ;-)

Popa Andrei 09-29-2010 11:47 PM

horussjr 10-16-2010 12:06 PM

Popa Andrei 11-28-2010 10:39 AM

Netz 12-08-2010 02:46 PM

Installed/ Upgraded it on vB4.1PL2 and it is working.

Did the usual:
I uploaded the files and imported with option override 'yes'.
Than I just activated the add-on.

(I had it before working on vB 3.84 and upgraded to vB 4.1 by the manual of Andreas)

Popa Andrei 12-17-2010 06:26 PM

You can reuse it, just try to uninstall and then install it again.

But as I menitoned before in #105 , you will need to write all translations from zero as well forgot/disable "Rewrite Friendly URLs" possibility in your forum...

horussjr 01-15-2011 10:41 AM

can you be more precise? is it working with the last vbseo? if no there is a dead end because i'm not giving up using vbseo. also what translations are you reffering to? for the forum titles or ALL the translations from the forum.

voter 01-18-2011 01:45 PM

It is working with vbseo as soon a you don't use in URL rewrites the names/titles of forums.
If forum names are translated with this mod they became unreachabe if in URL rewrite of VBSEO the Titles/names of forums are used.

horussjr 01-18-2011 07:47 PM

and if now i'm reverting the link back to normal there is the chance to lose any relation with google search. like all the links which appear on google to now show/work any more?

k3mikal 02-21-2011 03:19 AM

works great on 3.8.6 PL1, thanks.

I get an 'Invalid Language' response after translating my forum titles and saving them. What do you think could be responsible for this?

horussjr 03-19-2011 01:03 PM

working on 4.1.2 BUT you to:

- if using things related to seo and link changing your links MUST be created not by name of the forum but by id!!!!
- if you have a forum named "Prieten" (romanian) and you are using as forum's languages english and romanian you have to go to Forum language manager (created by this plugin) and translate the forums name for both of the languages like this. go to english and name it Friend and also go to romanian and re-enter Prieten.

IF you are NOT doing all this your forum will give you a lot of errors. Translate the forums with the site offline so only you can see and the traffic is reduced to almost none.... Enjoy!!!

Popa Andrei 03-24-2011 11:57 AM

Wath would we have done without you? :D

If anybody gets such an error, try importing and overwriting the product with this one. That should fix the problem.
