Do keep checking, but don't let this rather small detail hold you back from podcasting! You can go ahead and get started with your casts and update your feed whenever vBulletin moves into the 21st century and starts supporting some RTF container elements for podcasts, videoblogs, etc.

In the meantime: go ahead and create your casts and use something like WordPress to generate the RTF file (it's all set to go for podcasting and will automatically containerize and create an RTF that's ready to go) Later, you can update your feed whenever vBulletin evolves. That's really just the icing.

If you're looking for a site to host your podcast, check out http://www.libsyn.org (the $5 monthly option is cool and they move your past podcasts to archive at no extra cost so long as you keep paying). Libsyn will even host the blog that will publish your casts, but I'd recommend you use WordPress on your own server just to keep the feed in your domain.

For learning about podcasting you can try Podcast411 on itunes or pick up this book: http://podcastsolutions.com/

Regards,

Matt

And you could use ArticleBot vB plugin to fetch your new podcasts and post them as threads...

I hope this project get's picked up again...

So do we. We could use Libsyn, as they're great, but we need something where we can host them for multiple users in tandem with the stories we host for said users, so building it into vb3.5 seems the best approach for us.

I don't want to host them...my server already takes a beating.

I wish that there was something like this for us. Right now I've got a pretty complex backend all setup that is confusing as hell to setup/edit. But when you're ready to publish a podcast, its easy as pie.

http://www.mlgpwncast.com

Anyhow, I do my editing, add chapters etc. in Garageband 2, make the front page news post, and publish the feed with a really cool utility called "podcast maker" by The Potion Factory.

That's it. Once I get it edited, its as easy as pie - thank the lord :-P.

From there, ArticleBot will automatically grab it and add it to the Episode Library (which I'm going to redo, without a doubt, to make it so much nicer). Then, its over for that show.

Of course, I've got to publish my shownotes separately (actually, I'm writing the Potion Factory about adding a feature to publish PDF shownotes simultaneously).

My single biggest recommendation for anyone who does a podcast? Publish iTunes enhanced shows! Click on E10 of the MLG PwnCast for a great example.

Every single one of my listeners loves it. They can skip around it etc. Simple things like this make your show oh so much better.

Anyhow, I wish that vB had podcast support when I started everything :( - life would have been oh so much easier :D.

I think it's pretty clear that this project is dead, and no one ever got 'right back on it.

I use a combination of Wordpress and Podpress for blogging and podcasting, and it works extremely well. Combine that with the vBulletin-Wordpress Bridge, and you end up with a very nice system that lets you bloog, podcast, and integrate vBulletin as the commenting and forum system.
