Ideal configuration would be that people with cameras would log in to vBulletin which would just act as a directory... the data would be peer to peer, most people already have high speed connection so it shouldn't be an issue... it should also make the development job easier as no streaming server would be required...

Window Media Encoder 9 is very good when it comes to video/sound compression, I've been playing around with 640x480 and 128kbs sound and it worked just great.

I've done a lot of research on this project, and have some great ideas... let me know if you're interested in some of them...

I'd really love to see this project coming to life...

i will start a Forum about creating a webcam server in any direction possible, on my board, because here is hard to discuss about commercial avenues... goto my sig for that!

Not so sure that updating still images will cut it for my use as long as there are better free systems available like Yahoo and MSN. These free and widely used services are who I'm losing my members to right now. I've cut down on that some what by adding attachments to PM's plus having chat on my site but the cams are still be big draw. If it means setting up a dedicated server I'm willing to do so but so far have not found any viable options that allow me to host myself and integrate with vB3.

the peer to peer thing sounds great but at the same time, i'm not sure how many hackers are quite prefficient in a language to code the application.

did anyone get the price on this?

nexialys 07-28-2004 10:47 AM

i got a price for this myself...:

1- i have two guys interested to make the conversion/integration of http://www.24camportal.com , one is ready to make the integration of db etc, and one is ready to add some webcam features... BUT:

the main coders at 24camportal.com are not interested to make a integration script because they added a forum in the script lately... they told me i can buy the script and do the job for my clients, but they are not helping...

i think that the PRO version is a great tool, easy to add more features, and i know some other tools that we can use to add these new features, but i can't deal with the purchase of a script right now, our paypal account is empty...

you can then go to http://mini-services.com/freewill/forumdisplay.php?f=1 and start a discussion if you're interested to help buy the source code and find more features to add, debug and have some setups and configurations made.

the script is 50$US, and i'm ready to do the job... can take about a week to have it complete, with integration, debugs, and a start of template integration... complete integration will come easy when db integration is done...

what i can evaluate is this: each script sold will include the originate price (50$) plus a minimal fee for service on our site and integration value...

btw, for now, we can't support the portal itself, as we're not webcam pros, but we can focus on that if we have more requests... my partner told he was ready to focus on the webcam thing if we have at least 10 clients requesting that script...
